Hippos and Burkino Faso

Another unexpected side trip to Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary.

There are only 2 hippo families left in Ghana. The Wechiau community got together to protect them by creating a sanctuary.

This sanctuary has no boundaries, so the hippos can roam freely.

We visited via canoe that was not in great condition. 🤣 We also accidently crossed the border into Burkino Faso for 10 minutes. The selfie is our only photo in Burkino Faso.
