Today we went horseback riding to some off the beaten path ruins. We saw a Moon Temple of the Inca as well as some alters built right into the rock inside some cave like tunnels. Our guide told us some of the tunnels even go all the way down the mountain to Cusco’s center. It was fun and relaxing, the walking around the hills reminded us how hard our trek was going to be, especially when he pointed out the Inca trail going through the nearby mountains. We then wrapped up our exploration of Peruvian food with Cuy (Guinea pig) and pisco sours, the local alcoholic beverage of choice. Both were good! It was unique to pick through the body for the meat but we aren’t shy about getting our hands dirty! We then raced over, slightly tipsy, to our informational meeting about the hike! Off to packing we go. Can’t wait to wake up at 3:30am…Omg, what have we gotten ourselves into!Read more
