  • Final country?!

    15 de julho de 2022, Croácia ⋅ 🌙 70 °F

Venice here we come! Another couple trains and actually going through border control (here from Slovenia to Croatia, and going to and from England were the only times the passport was checked), we made it to the last country of the trip. 12 countries 12 weeks, omg!Leia mais

  • Surprise birthday party!

    16 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

It’s our one day in Venice so we are living it up! We walked so so many tiny streets and saw so so many cute canals and houses. It’s so unbelievably cute in here with no cars to ruin it, I love it. We walked nearly the whole island to get to a park, took a nap, and then walked all the way back to find a gondola to take a ride. It was really hard to wrap my mind around actually being in THE Venice, Italy, even just to know we are in Italy in general is crazy. We then met up with a couch surfing group hosting an event to go watch the fireworks because apparently it’s Venice’s birthday today! I know the universe has been on our side this trip because we always seem to end up where we should be at the best times to be there with no planning whatsoever! It was fun and we got good recommendations for Florence from a guy who has lived in Italy for awhile. He also showed us where we could get some snacky food, basically fried meatballs, and fish on baguettes, as we didn’t have dinner and were now drinking. Met a lot of cool people, another Australian and got to see the fireworks. The recs guy had ice packs which we really appreciated because, again, it’s hot, so now I think I need to carry those around and just hold them on my stomach all day.Leia mais

  • Italy you are too hot

    17 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Not much to show for the travel day from Venice to Florence, we had to have seat reservations which makes it less hectic then other travel days, at least we know we will get a seat. We did walk around a bit to get lunch but it was so hot it was hard to walk more than a couple minutes before taking a break. We then ordered delivery pasta for dinner as the afternoon walk was a mistake and took it right out of us. Then the next day we didn’t leave the room till late when we had pasta for dinner again, mike fainted, and then we had ice cream and went home. Just your typical over 100 degrees day.Leia mais

  • Trying to excape the heat

    19 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

We are trying out that early bird life style again to try to beat the heat. This is a much more humid heat than Budapest was so it’s pretty much hot 24/7 even in the shade. We took the hottest train ever (Europe please get on the AC trend) from Florence to Viareggio where we found out there was a forest/crop fire happening near by but we were not getting back on the train till our bodies went in the water. So to the ocean we went. It was definitely worth it even with ash in the water because it’s cooler here and we can just stay in the water. We then had great sea food and pasta, watched our last ocean sunset of the trip and took a, much cooler, train home.Leia mais

  • Florence in a nutshell

    20 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ 🌙 75 °F

We woke up bright and early again to see the duomo mainly, and any other Florence site we came across. A bunch of naked men statues and lions statues which where made by people who clearly never saw a lion are what make up Florence really. We got some good sandwiches which were one of the recommendations from the guy in Venice and then stayed in the room from about noon to 9pm per our avoiding the heat protocol.Leia mais

  • We love a day trip

    21 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ 🌙 75 °F

Early risers once again! Took the 7am train to Pisa so we were ready for that epic photo shoot before heat or other people could mess it up. Obviously the pics speak for themselves and were well worth it. We also really enjoyed people watching because everyone is hilarious in the ways and the whats of taking photos. Comical, wonderful stuff. We then had breakfast of eggs and bacon and toast and by 10am we were leaving Pisa! Back to the beach we went to have our final sea pea moments and then we had a grocery store lunch (I will be taking a break from lunch meat after this trip, thank you very much) and a delivery dinner, we had pasta if you couldn’t guess.Leia mais

  • Anna’s turning 14?

    22 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

I woke up and promptly wished Anna a happy birthday and was excited she had reached the big one four! I guess I’m either bad at numbers or she’s really looking good for her age. Anyway it’s an exciting day to spend inside because it’s feeling like 113 outside, yuck. We got delivery! Never have I ever utilized a delivery service to such an extent but hey the budget has some wiggle room and it’s just too damn hot hot hot. We left in the evening for our pasta cooking class. So yummy and extremely fun. Even easier than I imagined. Also I like wine now? I guess Italy has bragging rights about their wine for a reason. Then we walked around, had another drink, some dessert, and made it home late but not too bad when you think about how we left the room at about 6pm.Leia mais

  • Steak!

    23 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ ☀️ 97 °F

All we needed to accomplish today was eat a big T-bone steak. Which we crushed like a sack of wood. We cleaned that bone so well we got all $75 worth. Then without even expecting it we crossed “horse ride” off the trip bucket list!Leia mais

  • When in roma

    24 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

Our last big hooray! Woke up extra early for this one because we had to arrive after our 2 hour train ride and still have some cooler hours. It kinda paid off, but by the end of our colosseum tour it was time to hide from the sun at all costs. Luckily 90 feels much better than 100 so it’s going pretty well. We made a wish in the Trevi fountain and took as many photos as a person can in the 15 minutes the tour guide gave us to walk the whole first level of the colosseum. We learned it used to be covered in white marble, the lady’s had to stand on the top level (rude), and that most of the gladiators weren’t killed because they were somewhat celebrities and the king didn’t want to be hated by the people.Leia mais

  • We like sticks

    24 de julho de 2022, Itália ⋅ 🌙 70 °F

We saw so many tall column type monuments which I have taken to calling sticks. So yeah we like sticks and we saw a whole lot on our walks through Rome. We also had to dump water on ourselves many times to keep cool, so no that’s luckily not all sweat. We then finished the trip adventures by walking up the Spanish steps and taking the train back to Florence.Leia mais

  • Back to germany… again

    25 de julho de 2022, Suíça ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Took the train through Switzerland so we got some more great views, then made it to Stuttgart where we settled in and then had McDonald’s! We love a Mickey D’s moment. The next day we had dinner and then our last spritzer while listening to some live music and finally having a crepe!Leia mais

  • The Zoo!

    27 de julho de 2022, Alemanha ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

We went to the Stuttgart zoo which was really big! We didn’t even realize at first and spent an hour just looking at the birds! But it was a very good time as we saw so many interesting ones, even one little bird riding on a bigger one, and even a curlew which I have seen in Australia! Then we walked every path in the place to see every animal from all angles. The best were the bonobos as they were having so much fun and had babies and teens and you could really see their personalities. The octopus also stole the show by being right up my the glass. A good final day out and about.Leia mais

  • Final train day

    29 de julho de 2022, Alemanha ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

Off to Frankfurt for the last night of the trip. It’s a pretty quick easy journey which is so unlike us but maybe last day we finally learned some things. Once we located our last Airbnb (omg weird to say that!) Mike and Anna went shopping and I stayed in to relax and talk to Delaney. Picking out the last outfit I’ll wear from these clothes is such a relief, I don’t think I’ll be wearing these things for awhile.Leia mais

  • Thanks Europe!

    29 de julho de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

Today we go home! It was a long one but so simple and easy. A couple lines at the airport but nothing crazy. We checked our backpacks and told them good bye forever (not really but it was so freeing to not carry it). Then we had plenty of time to chill and then we were off. The flight was spent for me catching up on my penguins literally the whole time. But just in time we are back in MN! Good to be home and lots to process about the trip, but wow what a time! Thanks Europe for giving us such an adventurous summer!Leia mais
