More exploring in the St Helens area

    April 18, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Another interesting day today starting with a stop at the shop in the bush where we met a lovely lady working there from Rockhampton. Next was an historic tour of The Stamp where we saw some of the old machinery used in the tin mines dating back to the 1880s! On then to Mt Paris Dam which was built in the 1930s ......... huge concrete stays were used to stabilise the dam but when a similar design failed it was decided to decommission this dam wall and it is now a popular point of interest for tourists! We found a most unusual toadstool growing happily in the scrub here!Next was lunch at the Pub in the Scrub where Priscilla and her mate (the biggest pigs I've ever seen) were sleeping soundly in the sunshine! The story has it they really enjoy a beer but they were too busy sleeping to prove this! On we went to St Columba Falls and last but not least to the Dairy and cheese factory. All in all another top dayRead more
