Nach Jordanien ging es für uns weiter nach Ägypten, genauer gesagt nach Kairo. Was soll man zu dieser Stadt nur sagen … „Chaos“ trifft es wohl ganz gut. Der Verkehr ist unübersichtlich, die Malls sind überfüllt und ständig wird man angehupt – ob man nun ein Taxi braucht oder nicht 🚕.Wir wollten auf jeden Fall das Grand Egyptian Museum besuchen, das erst vor wenigen Jahren fertiggestellt wurde. Es lohnt sich wirklich! Zwar ist noch nicht alles komplett fertig, und einige Ausstellungsräume werden noch nicht genutzt, aber die Hauptausstellungen sind beeindruckend riesig. Wir haben den ganzen Tag gebraucht, um uns alles anzusehen 🫠.Von dort ist es nicht mehr weit zu den Pyramiden von Gizeh, doch an diesem Tag hatten wir keine Zeit mehr. Also machten wir uns am nächsten Morgen wieder auf den Weg und besuchten die Pyramiden – solange es das einzig erhaltene alte Weltwunder noch gibt.Unser Uber brachte uns zum neuen Eingang, und von dort bahnten wir uns den Weg nach unten. Wir können gar nicht mehr zählen, wie oft wir gefragt wurden, ob wir eine Kameltour oder einen Ausritt auf Pferden machen möchten. Es war wirklich beeindruckend, diese riesigen Pyramiden mit eigenen Augen zu sehen.Danach fuhren wir noch einmal in eine Mall. Hier sind die Preise wenigstens normal und nicht auf Touristen ausgelegt – und außerdem entkommt man dort der mehr als schlechten Luft draußen.Der Verkehr und die Sicherheit in Kairo stehen definitiv auf einem ganz anderen Blatt. Fahrspuren? Fehlanzeige. Sicherheitsgurte? Meist unbrauchbar. Hupen, um abzubiegen? Ganz normal. Und dass sich drei Jugendliche auf die Ladefläche eines Kleintransporters stellen, stört hier offenbar niemand 🤷.

#After Jordan, our journey took us to Egypt — more precisely, to Cairo. What can you even say about this city? “Chaos” probably describes it best. The traffic is wild, the malls are packed, and everyone honks at you asking if you need a taxi 🚕.We definitely wanted to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, which was completed only a few years ago. It’s absolutely worth it! Although it’s not entirely finished yet and several exhibition halls are still closed, the main galleries are massive. It took us an entire day to see everything 🫠.From there, it’s not far to the Pyramids of Giza, but we didn’t have enough time that day. So, the next morning, we set off again to visit the pyramids — while the only surviving ancient wonder of the world is still standing.Our Uber dropped us off at the new entrance, and from there we made our way down. We lost count of how many times we were asked if we wanted a camel ride or a horseback tour. It was truly impressive to stand before those enormous pyramids.Afterward, we headed to another mall — at least there, the prices are normal and not inflated for tourists. Plus, it’s the perfect escape from the heavily polluted air outside.Traffic and safety in Cairo are really a story of their own. Lanes? What lanes? Seatbelts? Often not functional. Honking to turn? Totally normal. And the fact that three teenagers stand on the back of a small truck? Nobody seems to mind 🤷.Read more
