Sneaky wee break in the weather (?maybe..) so down in England-shire for a 3 day coast to coast. Setting off from the desolate Flimby, where even the pie shop had shut down, we headed eastwards. Hopefully Whitby's fabled fish n chips will have fared better. Lack of proper preparation meant we were a little surprised to find it quite hilly- 1500m+ over exactly 100km. Still- a gentle tail wind and cool and dry: ideal for cyclingRead more

Early start and breakfast on the road in Kirby Stephen- in the sun!! That was the last we saw of the sun. However it stayed dry and cool with little wind and the ascent to Tan Hill was done by morning coffee. Britain's highest pub- notorious for snow bound lock- ins- latterly with an Oasis tribute band. Definitely maybe. The Pennines are big sky country - extensive views of... moorland. But a great rolling descent past Whar ( what is it good for?) and into Reeth and an amazing bike cafe. Then more downhill round lots of tank practice areas, a scenic picnic between a quarry and the M1, and more bucolic England- shire and home for the night with a pint of Timothy Taylor's.Read more

Full English to get the day off to a fine start. Surprisingly sunny and warm with a generous tail wind- happy cycling! A bumpy route today up and over a couple of corners of the North Yorkshire Moors- Osmotherly and Kildale. Thought the work was done to find a series of super steep ramps in and out of the Esk valley. Spat out into a seething morass of humanity in Whitby. Compulsory fush n chups. Compulsory seaside rain started after we jumped on the train home. Happy days! Now need to go clear out my arteries!!
We trained back west into some abysmal weather on the slowest trains with the oldest rolling stock with the happiest of staff. Make of that what you will.

    Flitby done!
