    Arrival day 👀🐾

    Arrived! Lots of info 🤪 and a tour around the shelter, that is all the dogs, cats and even bunnies! 😍 (about a 100 in total!)

    🧢 anxious on the plane, but was prepared for the adventure with the cap obviously - can't wait to get a own hoodie or T-shirt here!
    🥾 hike to the grocery store, could get used to this view
    🐈 spend the evening in one of the cat places - Mendes felt like posing
    🍋 three cats and a lemon from the yard
    🥭🍌 first breakfast, fruit, honestly because I didn't fully know yet how this kitchen works, we'll see tonight 🤩🍝

    First workday & a lovely evening ✨

    🧽 after first morning walks we clean the kennels
    🤗 cuddles during cleaning of course
    ☕ landed in a South-American coffee bar during shifts, where we had cake with coffee on top (look closely) - delicious! and only €1,80
    🍦grabbed some more sugar before the extra shift
    🐕‍🦺 walked Disney on my second shift - aka running a few meters and then stopping for a few minutes to enoy the view (her call)
    🐕 after putting the dogs from the parks in their kennel, and cleaning the parks, we socialized with young Mr Tovo, he's very playful!
    🍝 Made my first dinner, or should I say dinner for tomorrow too? and, of course it's pasta
    🌇 Went into Loulé in the evening where we roamed the streets during sunset,
    🪽 and saw storks!!
    🍹There once was a German, an American, two Dutch girls and a Belgian at a café, but I won't tell you how the joke ends 🤭    Leer más

    Day 2 of working at ARA 🐾

    🐕‍🦺 walked our 14 yr old (!) housedog, Kenia. She will only walk with treats
    🐶 Met our look-a-like Pickels (dog we rescued from Spain), Ravena. She's looks just like him and also always want to sit on my lap. I'm sorry Ravena, but I got to clean your bed
    🍫 Don't need to explain, (chocolate) cakes are the BEST on vacation!!
    🐕‍🦺 With enough sugar, I had a run with sweet Merida. She doesn't like walking too much and rather runs 🏃‍♀️
    🥎 Threw a ball while cleaning the big park
    🗣️ Time to socialize! My first dog: Jude, who lives with the sweet, playful Napoleon (on the first picture)
    🍬 Was able to give her a treat out of my hand! And by the end pet her real carefully, she's lovely and defenitely needs a lot more love 💕

    3th day at ARA 🐾

    🐕‍🦺 Walked Merida (without cone!) and Chaplin
    🐕‍🦺 Walked silly, energitic Tovo
    🌴 Went to the park
    ☕🍰 Had THE nicest vegan chocolate cake, oh my god
    🌺 Came back for the second shift and admired the pretty flowers that are all over the shelter
    🐕‍🦺 Walked silly Tovo again on my second shift
    🐶 Got Chaplin to walk, but didn't want to walk any further so we waited on his housemate Puca. He came sitting on my leg, and chilled against my back.

    🩹 Don't worry, not from a dog, just an encounter between clumsy me and a sharp edge 💁🏽‍♀️
    🗨️ Socialize time! I went with Zagnis first, she's alone (for) now because her housemate Tomé got adopted. Of course I brought some treats!
    🐾 Then went to sit with Azul and Yeshua, they are both so sweet!
    🍦 We went back in town for ice cream - straciatella and cookies hmmm
    🧁 And brought some pastries back home too, to have a snack for my day off with Loki tomorrow
    👯‍♀️ Quickly took a picture together during the last seconds of golden hour - ARA friendships 💛

    First adoption event 🎪

    🐕‍🦺🧽 In the morning I walked Kenia (yes, she was already asking for a treat, she got her breakfast right after) and said hi to the bébés, Carlitos and Caleb, and sweet Loki while cleaning their cages.
    🐇 They asked pictures of the little (and big) bunnies who are for adoption
    😻 And while I was there I said hi to the little kittens (they're for adoption too 🤭)
    🎪 After that I went to my first adoption event, apparently it was Children's Day in Portugal and they play and party the whole day. We brought the bébés, old Dandi (white), best friends Spike (brown) and Oscar (black) and Albano (little brown). For this I got my volunteering T-shirt so it's official now! We raised some money and I helped a boy get over his fears of big dogs. Oh and I also ate a shrimp kroketta 🤣🤭    Leer más

    🍫 Had the best chocolate cake!! - Actually every chocolate cake I ate here was the best already, they're so damn good

    🐕‍🦺 Walking Isolda, she's adopted by a volunteer so going home soon
    🐕 Walking big, strong Bernard, that was a work-out 😅
    🐶 Silves came to say hi during cleaning, he's adopted too!
    👕 That's why I brought cheap T-shirts 🤭 Mayra just wanted to play, nothing dangerous happened
    🪙 Went to the market in Loulé and found this British man making cool hangers out of coins
    🍰 Went for an ice cream but got cake instead and not regretting it
    🙏 Appreciation for our new ARA-sign
    🗨️ Came across this quote that's now my lifeline
    📷 Took my camera out because they needed pictures of the kittens for adoption
    🐱 Anyone want one?
    🐕‍🦺 Walked Simone, Novio, Nugget and Precious during my second shift

    😻 Between shifts I socialized with two very shy kittens. Found out what makes them a bit more social: shoelaces!

    👕 Bought some ARA-merch
    🌲 Walked to the store because I really craved pasta pesto and I didn't have pesto or cheese
    🐐 Say hi to our goats Ali and Alice 👋

    🌊 Watched some dogs dipping their paws in the water during second shift
    🐶 Ended the shift with my boy Loki
    🏊‍♀️ Found another volunteer who was as crazy as me to have a little swim on a cloudy and windy afternoon

    2 days off ☀️

    📿 Went to get the bracelet I saw some days before - it has the stone 'aventurine' and represents motivation, personal growth and confidence
    📷 My friends Nele & Yannick came to get me out for my days off and of course I took my camera! Made some photos at the beach
    🫑 Got take out and it was the most delicious vegan tapas I ever tasted!!
    🍫 Of course I ate a brownie too

    🧁 Came back home to ARA and made some pupcakes because there's a birthday party tomorrow

    🐕‍🦺 Started the day walking our old lady Kenia
    😻 Went to get some kittenlove after the shift
    🍫 And of course ate a cake
    🐶 Went into Chaplin and Puca's kennel to get some video's of Chaplin. He can be tricky sometimes, but likes me a lot so I offered to make some content.
    🩹 And got bitten by little devil Puca. He's is an unpredictable dog and it was at my own risk. It looked like he came for pets, but I might have touched his ear and he might have an ear infection, we don't really know. - but hey, got the full dog shelter experience, right? My hand is okay, the staff took good care of me 🫶🏽
    🐕 And went straight to Lokibear after that for some cuddles
    🌄 Went to see the sunset at the church on the hill in Loulé

    🧤 Nice glove at work today to prevent further infection - swelling is going down and can stretch my finger more so that's good

    🥟 Went to a South-American inspired bar and ate a bean and cheese empanada with garlic sauce - yay could speak un poco espanol
    🐕 Second shift started by getting the dogs out of the parks to their kennels - for this pack we build a wall and let them run free - wait for old Castro at the end! I think he made an effort to run for the camera, because normally he walks slowly 🥹
    🐶 Walked Spike(y) and Oscar
    🧼 Gave Pascoal a wash wash
    🧽 And Lokibear too
    📸 Went to do a little photoshoot of some dogs, meet: Loki, Tovo, Gnocchi, Simone, Zimbabue, Smoke, Aslan and Mayra

    🩹 Saw that he had a cut on his nose so put on cream - looks like sunscream hehe
    🐕 Took good boy Egas out to Loulé during shifts - I have more time now since we switched to summershifts (starting 7h30 and 17h)
    🍰 Ate on of the delicious cakes here again
    🌈 Roamed the streets
    🧇 Past Waffleria so ate a waffle

    🗨️ Socialized with Ametista, she's very afraid of sudden sounds and needs to be taken out. Walked the road with her since she's comfortable in the valleys.

    ☀️ Good morning from Kenia
    🧽 Inacio helped me cleaning
    😽 Sat with the 3-legged kittens a bit after shift
    🗨️ Videocall with my brother, and one of the kittens wanted to join too
    🍝 Need to use all my things since I'm leaving soon, seems like I made breakfast, lunch and dinner, yum!

    🐶 Walked Gnocchi in the afternoon
    🐕 Walked our old lady Kenia, she even ran a bit!

    💛 We got to pick a walk from any dog in the kennel - so Lokibear got an extra walkie
    🐕 Walked my socialize dog Mona Lisa and managed to give Picasso treats - got to say, stress level was high since he is very protective over his sister Mona Lisa and I always have to get her with 2 people to take her for a walk because he is a barky boy
