We have started our journey with a Caravan Rally. We arrived just in time to complete a quick setup before being chauffeur driven to the local pub in Simpson. Thank you to Cherie and Maurice.

One of our group had pre booked for about 30 people for dinner. It was a great way to start our holiday.

Camp Corriemungle was previously a Prison Farm from the 1930's to Mid 70's. I look forward to exploring on Good Friday.Leer más

We had a quiet day on Good Friday relaxing around the camp. There is very little phone reception. And everyone socialised. Some vans decided that rather the battle the Holiday Traffic, they would arrive Friday Morning.Leer más

This morning Eric prepared a slow cooked Beef casserol for the community share dinner. It went on at 10am and timer set for the 8 hour cook. Some of our group then took off for the day to see the sites. First up Timboon Easter Market, followed by hopes of a drink at the Timboon Distillery, unfortunately they were too busy to accommodate our group of 20+ people. We then went on to Shultz cafe and icecreamery and were again out of luck with such a big crowd. Next stop was Berry World where we stopped for a while, and the kids in the group picked berry's, By now it was after 12 so we headed to the Simpson Pub for a late lunch.Leer más

Easter Sunday

Today started with Hot Cross Buns for breakfast. , followed by watching the kids in our group at the East Egg hunt. Our close friends Belinda and Steve arrived off the boat from 3 weeks in Tassie. We had a quick catch up on their trip before some of us headed off for the day to explore some more. Today we went to the Dairylicous Fudge Farm. I chose not to partake as I much prefer savoury. Eric had Scones and cream.
Next stop was Gorge Cocolates. It is also an Alpaca Farm and the have lovely home made items to purchase.
Next stop was Apostle Whey Cheese. It was my favourite. We sampled 13 of their own cheeses and 2 homemade gelato's. Great bargain at $3.00 per person for the Tasting, However their cheeses were on the pricy side for takeaway, at about $80 per kg.

We then took a drive down to the 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, before arriving at Sowand Piglet Brewery in Port Campbell for a drink to finish the day.

Quite a few of us decided to use the communal BBQ for dinner, and then sat around for drinks 🍸 until quite lateLeer más

Today, we said our goodbyes and set off on the next part of our journey. 6 hours North to a little free camp on the banks of the Murray at Mildura called Psyche Pumps West.
We cooked dinner and all our fresh fruit and Vegies in preparation for crossing the border into NSW tomorrow.
We finished the night sitting around a campfire having a few beverages.Leer más

With an early start from Mildura, we had a couple of stops in town before setting off.
1st stop: Pooncarie to look at the old wharf. It is now just an embankment at a very low stagnant river. We also stopped at Bra Boots and Pink Piano just for a laugh.
2nd stop: Menindee for lunch at the Morton Boulka picnic area, then on to Menindee Lakes dam wall, and Burke and Will's Memorial to one of their Explorers.

The Indian Pacific came past just as we were learning Menindee Lake.

We saw a lot of wild animals wandering the roads, goats, emus, and a kangaroo. There were a heap of dead kangaroos on the roads.
I have my eyes on the lookout for wild camels now.

This morning, we had a slow start with catching up on almost a week worth of washing before heading off for the day.
1st Stop was Coffee for Eric.
We then went out to Silverton it was a busy few hours checking out town. We went to the Silverton Hotel for lunch, followed by a visit to the Mad Max Museum and an Art Gallery.
We definitely got our steps in today. We decided on a simple dinner before retiring early.

Today, we took a day trip out to Sculptures in the Desert, and after a look through the Sculptures, we had a sausage sizzle lunch, before a walk around the Flora and Fauna Park.

Today was an early start. Having already fueled up, we set off about 8 am.
1 stop: Yunta for coffee and cake after being pulled into the quarantine station for inspection of our caravan. Fortunately, they didn't need to confiscate anything from us.
2nd stop: Peterborough. We shopped and then stopped at a lille cafe for lunch. Fabulous lamb gyros.
Finally arriving at Wilpena Pond about 5pm. With the last 55km at between 20 and 30km p/h.
There was an unbelievable amount of Kangaroos on the verge and in the middle of the road.
Note to self..... always plan arrivl by 3.30pm.
Although a very slow drive, both cars with Kelly & Mike and Eric & i arrive safely with no damage to us or the wildlife.
After setting up for the next 5 nights, we sat and relaxed with a quick dinner and a few reds. 🍷.Leer más

Today we spent time walking around the Camping Ground and located the Restaurant. We may try it out on Tuesday night, our last night here.
Today we took a drive out to the Great Chinaman's Wall, stopping on the way to check out other sites along the way.
We had a picnic lunch, before travelling back and checking out other sites.
Looks like a chilly night tonight, so we have the fire going already.

Wilpena Pound Day 3

Today, we went for a walk 10.30am from into Wilpena Pound up to the Hills Homestead and then up to Wangara Lookout 12.12 km. We got back to camp about 2.30pm.
This afternoon we went to Happy Hour at the Bar and then i stayed on for a welcome to country. It was presented by a local indigenous person. It told the story of the local aboriginal communities.
Back to camp for 5zzzz and few drinks around the fire.Leer más

Today, after breakfast and then a coffee at the shop, we went our separate ways with Kelly and Mike choosing what they thought was an 8km return walk, we went to Blinman Underground copper mine. It was very interesting to hear their early lives as miners. They were from Cornwall.
We bought lunch from a cafe in town: a genuine Cornish Pastie.
It was very nice but also very unique; three quarters meat and veg, and a quarter was apple.
We then had to play dodge the animals again to get back to camp.
Tomorrow, we set off for Arkaroola Wilderness Resort for 2 nights.
We finished the night with a few drinks and a fireLeer más

Today, we're took a detour on the way to Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. We saw the sign to Chambers Gorge was only 9km off the main road and decided we would take a quick look. After a short walk through the Gorge looking at the Aboriginal carvings, we made a decision to stop the night and continue to Arkaroola on Thursday. We chose a nice little spot by the dry river bed. We lit a fire cooked a meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. We met 3 other vehicles, that also had the same idea and camped further up the river.Leer más

Today was a beautiful drive. We stopped in a dry river bed for morning tea and to collect firewood for tonight. We arrived at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and then set up for lunch.
We spent the afternoon wandering around the Sanctuary, looking at what they have. The Managers obviously an interest in Astronomy & Geology as well as wildlife.
We went to a BBQ dinner and then came back and lit the fire 🔥.Leer más

Today we again went our separate ways with Kelly and Mike. They wanted to hike Acacia Ridge a 5.6km one way. They ended up also doing the return trip. It was not forensic and I.
We instead went 4wd driving.
We did 11km to Stubbs Waterhole. We stopped aong the way yo tak photos, and had a picnic lunch at Stubbs Waterhole (No water).

Tonight, we walked down to the Wallaby feeding. They are a Yellow-footed rock-wallaby. There were quite a number that arrived at about 6 pm, when a worker put out some feed.
They are very timid with loud noises and take off, but come back fairly quickly.

Today we travelled from Arkaroola to Farina stopping for lunch at Copley Bakery. They seem to make all their own Pastries and cakes.
We arrived at Farina just after 1pm.
We set up and had a little rest before taking a walk around the camp ground and beyond to the railway bridge for the Old Ghan train. It was relocated further west in 1980.Leer más

Today we explored the township of Farina.
The town has been abandoned since 1967, although in the last 20 years a group arranges about 150 people for 6 weeks a year to restore the ruins.

Today, we stopped in Marree to stock up on supplies and fuel before heading to Moolorina Station for a couple of nights.
Kelly and Mike had a blow-out on one of their caravan tyres 10 minutes from Marree, requiring a wheel change on the side of The Outback Highway.
We were able to stock up on enough supplies to see us through to Burra in a few days.
Marree is a lovely town with plenty of history. The original Afghan Railway started as camel 🐫 transport run by Afghan cameleers before automation arrived on the Railways. The Afghan Rail was later renamed The Ghan. The 1st Mosque 🕌 in Australia was built here.Leer más

Today, we took a trip out to Lake Eyre Sth and then further north to Level Post Bay. The plan was to have lunch there. However, the flies were so active that we were worried we would eat more than just our sandwich. We look a walk onto Lake Eyre Sth. At Level Post Bay, we could see the salt was a lot thicker than at Lake Eyre Sth.
Went back to Moolorina Station for lunch and beverage and went for a walk around the campground.
Eric and Kelly believe they heard Camels 🐫 nearby with loud footsteps.Leer más

We travelled from Moolorina Station today stopping at Marree a water top up and for Morning Tea.
Along the way we stopped in at an Early Explorer's (John Mc Douall Stuart) dedication and an Ochre Pits near Farina.
We spent the night at Craddock Hotel. They have an offer of buy a drink stay the night. We had dinner and drinks at the hotel before retiring for the night.Leer más

We took a leisurely drive from Craddock Hotel taking a detour back to check out Hawker. Lovely old town.

Today, we took a further look around Burra and the adjacent towns of Burra North and Hampton.
We visited the historic Mine site and train station at Burra North.
We visited Dugouts the Miners, and their families lived in the side of the river. We then went out Hampton to the abandoned town. And walked through the old gaol. (Breaker Morant filmed here)
