Lironville

Einen halben Tag lang bin ich unzufrieden. Das liegt zum einen an der trostlosen Landschaft im Grenzgebiet zu Frankreich, aber auch an der Industrielandschaft um Dillingen. Fabriken muss man mögen, ganz besonders wenn sie so vor sich hin rosten, oder Dämpfe ausstoßen, die dem wolkenlosen Himmel ein Muster geben.

Das können natürlich die Franzosen auch und bieten gleich ein Atomkraftwerk bei Thionville auf. "Die elektrische Nettoleistung der vier Reaktorblöcke liegt bei jeweils 1300 Megawatt, die Bruttoleistung bei 1362 MW. Die gesamte installierte Bruttoleistung des Kernkraftwerks liegt bei 5448 MW, womit es das drittgrößte in Frankreich und das siebtgrößte der Welt ist. Durchschnittlich werden pro Jahr 35.200 GWh in das Netz eingespeist, das entspricht etwa 8 % des unter der EDF erzeugten Stroms in Frankreich."

Dann geht mir der Diesel aus, und weil der Liter in Schengen 1,373 Euro kostet, entscheide ich mich für eine kleine Straße im Grenzgebiet. Fotografisch wäre das eigentlich so das Richtige für mich gewesen, aber ich habe es ja so eilig, dass ich nicht mal mit Hilde rausgehen will, obwohl sich da mehrfach was anbietet. Später muss ich einen notdürftigen Weg am Feld entlang gehen, und könnte mich vor Ärger gerne mehrfach beißen.

Überhaupt diese Unentschlossenheit. Ich bin ja nur wegen Sylvester in Frankreich, weil da allgemeines Feuerwerk verboten ist, und in einem Naturschutzgebiet, wie am Lac d'Orient, absolute Ruhe herrscht.

Viel lieber wäre ich zur belgischen Grenze gefahren, um die Küste bis hoch nach Holland entlang zu tingeln, bis ich dann zur Werkstatt in Aktkirch bei Stuttgart fahren muss. Aber die haben leider kein Verbot.

Als der erste wunderschöne Kircheneingang dann rechter Hand liegt, beginne ich mich zu entspannen. Denn plötzlich sind wir in Asien.

"Seit Mitte September 2023 steht neben der Tu-Dung-Pagode am Stadtrand von Charey an der Straße nach Saint-Julien-lès-Gorze eine beeindruckende Buddha-Statue. Sie wurde von Arbeitern einer chinesischen Firma in dem kleinen Garten des Mitgefühls aufgestellt.

Die Statue ist 16 Meter hoch. Sie ist die größte in Europa. Sie wiegt 600 Tonnen. Der Stein stammt aus China.

Diese Statue stellt den Bodhisattva des Großen Mitgefühls dar. 'Der Bodhisattva ist ein erhabenes Wesen, das nach Erleuchtung strebt, um alle Lebewesen zu retten. Im Westen sprechen wir allgemein von Buddha. Doch in Wirklichkeit durchläuft er verschiedene Stufen. Mut, Weisheit zum Beispiel. Hier ist es das Mitgefühl', erklärt Thich Chu Nhuan." An Größe kann die Kirche in Thiaucourt durchaus mithalten, und über Schönheit lässt sich bekanntlich streiten. Das sieht auch der kleine Bunker im Sonnenlicht am Straßenrand so.

Überhaupt Sonne. Die macht mich jetzt richtig fröhlich, obwohl ich durch die verschmierte Windschutzscheibe eine ganz schlechte Sicht habe. Aber dann kommen wir zu dem Bauernhof im kleinen Ort Lironville, wo der Farmer einen schönen Stellplatz mit fünf Plätzen neben seinen Tieren in den offenen Ställen eingerichtet hat. Fünf Euro im Winter mit Strom, zwei Nachbarn rechts und links, ein Spazierweg in die Felder hinein.

Unter sternklarem Himmel wird die Nacht sehr kalt. Aber wir haben es schön warm und gemütlich im blauen Bus.

For half a day I'm dissatisfied. This is partly due to the bleak landscape in the border region with France, but also to the industrial landscape around Dillingen. You have to like factories, especially when they're rusting away like that, or emitting fumes that create patterns against the cloudless sky.

Of course, the French can do that too, and they offer a nuclear power plant near Thionville. "The net electrical output of the four reactor units is 1300 megawatts each, the gross output is 1362 MW. Then I run out of diesel, and since a liter costs €1.373 in Schengen, I decide to take a small road in the border region. From a photographic perspective, that would have been perfect, but I'm in such a hurry that I don't even want to go out with Hilde, even though there are several good spots. Later, I have to walk along a makeshift path by the field, and I could kick myself for being so annoyed.

And this indecisiveness! I'm only in France for New Year's Eve because fireworks are banned there, and in a nature reserve like Lac d'Orient, there's absolute peace and quiet.

I would have much preferred to drive to the Belgian border and meander along the coast all the way up to Holland, until I had to go to the repair shop in Aktkirch near Stuttgart. But unfortunately, they don't have a ban on cars.

When the first beautiful church entrance finally appears on the right, I begin to relax. Because suddenly we're in Asia.

The church in Thiaucourt is certainly comparable in size, and beauty, as they say, is subjective. The little bunker by the roadside, bathed in sunlight, seems to agree.

Sunshine in general. It's really cheering me up, even though the smeared windshield makes visibility terrible. But then we arrive at the farm in the small village of Lironville, where the farmer has set up a lovely campsite with five pitches next to his animals in the open barns. Five euros in winter, including electricity, two neighbors on either side, and a walking path leading into the fields.
