PILGERREISE INS LEBEN
Tag 3.634

PILGRIMAGE INTO LIFE
Day 3,634
June 10, 2026
Dülmen
We slept well; there was heavy rain during the night, but the sun is shining this morning. We take a leisurely drive to the park-and-ride lot by the motorway, which is surrounded by flowers.
Finally, a morning walk with my walker again—there are few vehicles parked here, and a private road leading to two farmsteads adjoins the lot.
The sky darkens while we have breakfast. I take care of some administrative tasks, as the next journey is looming ever larger on the horizon.
I speak to Emma—a computer voice—at the animal health center to place my order; her voice isn't much different from that of the ADAC representative. I’ve now signed up for premium insurance so that, in the event of a future incident, the bus can be taken directly to Alex.
Just now, a huge hare is coming down the slope and disappearing through the fence toward the motorway, just as the sun has come out again.
It’s two o'clock in the afternoon now. We spent some time outside in the sunshine, and Hilde did some digging. While it’s raining now, I’ve had a bite to eat—a piece of Queso San Pablo with garlic butter and a magnesium drink.
We’re still parked in the "flower parking lot."
We’re meeting Alex around 6 p.m., so we need to fill the time until then. I don’t really want to drive around much today, either. We’re parked at the far end of the lot, where there’s no one else around. But looking out now, I see someone has parked their car right opposite us.
It’s a grey Dacia; there doesn't seem to be anyone inside—or if there is, they must be asleep. But it’s "spoiling" my view, so we’re going to park on the other side instead.
Hopefully, the rain is over for the day now. We had just gone for a walk around the area when a sudden, fierce gust of wind nearly blew us right back into the van. For a moment there, it looked like the end of the world.
Alex is struggling with the screws; they are so corroded that they keep snapping. Now he has to drill and install new screws to secure the stabilizer bar.
The handbrake is working again; all that’s left is the license plate light, and then we should pass the TÜV inspection tomorrow.
While tightening the nuts on the front right wheel, he notices that the control arm is faulty. The inspector didn't flag it, but it definitely needs fixing before our next trip.
Since Alex is on emergency call-out duty for the next week and I have appointments in and around Braunschweig anyway, I’m going to try to get the inspection sticker tomorrow. I’ll be back in the area in a week to have the part installed, and after that, I’ll need to take the vehicle to a shop for a wheel alignment.
Wow, that’s another five hundred euros right there. I’ll have to cut back on spending a bit over the next few months.
But it’s late now, and we want to get some sleep.Read more
