Wenn man weiß, wo es weh tut, dann ist es oft halb so schlimm. Es ist ein Schlauch, der einen fünf Zentimeter langen Riss hat. Der muss erneuert werden.

Ich hatte gerade mal ein bisschen geplaudert von all den tollen Straßen, die ich jetzt fahren will, weil ich mich so richtig drauf gefreut habe. Die norwegische 705 und die schwedische 311, den Rondane Nationalpark durchqueren, und dann den Jotumheimenvejen.

Aber erstmal rechts ab in die 806, da macht es pfffft und bergauf geht kaum noch was. Adac sagt, klar helfen wir dir, aber beim Abschleppen musst du alles über 300 Euro selber zahlen.

Das Ausmaß dessen wird mir erst bewusst, als Mathias, der Fahrer, am Telefon meint, bei der einfachen Entfernung von 45 km - also für ihn das Doppelte - sei meine Selbstbeteiligung 268,00 Euro!!!

Alex sagt, versuchs einfach, auch durch den zwei Kilometer langen Tunnel, du schaffst das schon. Bergauf sind wir ein Verkehrshindernis, aber ich winke den Lastwagenfahrern freundlich zu, und lass sie an der nächsten Möglichkeit überholen.

Und so fahren wir heute über hundert Kilometer weit, um eine Werkstatt für morgen zu finden, denn die, die wir unterwegs angefahren haben, hatten entweder Urlaub oder den Tag der offenen Motorraumdeckel.

Mein Anstand verbietet es mir, auch nur einen Gedanken dazu zu äußern, was wir sonst noch gesehen haben, was sich aber einen Eintrag bei G verschafft hat.

Wie gesagt, ich bleibe positiv, denn letztendlich treffe ich auf dem kleinen Parkplatz am Fluss einen netten jungen Mann, der den Fehler findet und mich mit "es sei eine Kleinigkeit" sehr beruhigt.

Uns schräg gegenüber beginnt die Helgelandstrappa, mit fast 4200 Stufen eine der längsten Steintreppen der Welt, die von nepalesischen Sherpas auf den Berg Øyfjellet gebaut wurde.

Meine Nachbarn von der Insel kommen gerade von einem sechsstündigen Trip über die Berge zurück, sie sind aber noch so jung und dynamisch, dass sie abends essen gehen.

Hilde jammert mir die Ohren voll, was für ein tolles Leben deren Hund hat, so große Touren zu machen. Sie weiß nicht, dass er die meiste Zeit im Rucksack gesessen hat. Aber wir machen noch einen Spaziergang im kleinen Park hinter dem Platz oberhalb vom Fluss.

When you know where it hurts, it’s often not so bad. It’s a hose with a five-centimeter-long tear. It needs replacing.

I had just been chatting about all the great roads I wanted to drive—the ones I’d been really looking forward to: Norway’s 705 and Sweden’s 311, crossing Rondane National Park, and then the Jotunheimenvejen.

But first, a right turn onto the 806—and then *pfffft*—and suddenly there’s hardly any power for the uphill climb. ADAC says, "Sure, we’ll help you," but for the towing, I have to cover anything over 300 euros myself.

The full extent of this only hits me when Mathias, the driver, mentions on the phone that for a one-way distance of 45 km—meaning double that for him—my share of the cost comes to 268.00 euros!!!

Alex says, "Just give it a try—even through the two-kilometer tunnel; you can do it." We’re a traffic hazard on the uphill stretches, but I wave cheerfully at the truck drivers and let them overtake at the first opportunity.

And so, we drive over a hundred kilometers today to find a workshop for tomorrow, because the ones we stopped at along the way were either on holiday or seemed to be having an "open-hood day."

Decorum forbids me from even voicing a thought about the other things we saw—things that nonetheless earned themselves a mention on Google.

As I said, I’m staying positive; after all, in the small parking lot by the river, I meet a nice young man who identifies the fault and puts my mind at ease by calling it "a minor issue." Diagonally across from us begins the Helgelandstrappa—with nearly 4,200 steps, one of the longest stone staircases in the world, built up Mount Øyfjellet by Nepalese Sherpas.

My neighbors from the island have just returned from a six-hour trek across the mountains, yet they are still so young and energetic that they’re heading out for dinner.

Hilde keeps going on and on about what a great life their dog has, going on such big hikes. She doesn't realize that he spent most of the time sitting in a backpack. But we do go for a walk in the small park behind the site, overlooking the river.Read more
