Day 6

Another humid hot day today (we anticipated rain the whole week and it hasn’t rained once!) We tried somewhere new today for breakfast. We both had some breakfast Bao buns and a smoothie + coffee for me.
I’ve been pretty impressed with the quality of coffee here as most places have really good coffee although it is around £3 for an espresso so isn’t cheap!
After breakfast we walked over to the Admiralty Metro station. This was tough in the heat as we hadn’t walked from this angle before so was slightly awkward to find the entrance! We then took the metro to the south of Hong Kong Island to Ocean Park, an amusement/wildlife park that Sinéad’s cousin recommended to us to check out. We went through Aberdeen which I found funny as I went to uni there and there were street names I recognised!
Thankfully as it was a weekday and humid conditions the park was almost empty so we had no queues the whole day. This is what we wanted hence us booking on a Tuesday rather than weekend We took the Ocean park express to to the summit and did a few roller coasters! Not having to queue was the best thing about it. We then walked through the fair and I had a go at one of the knock down the can games that are usually scams. Thankfully this one wasn’t and I channeled my inner Mahomes and won a couple of cuddly toy prizes for Sinéad!
After we checked out the aquarium to see some cool sharks and checked out the giant pandas they had there. Apparently when Hong Kong became recognised as a free state the Chinese gifted them two panda twins. I managed to catch one of them doing a commando roll but mostly they were just sitting eating! We went up a cool tower that gave us amazing views of the park and surrounding area of the southern part of Hong Kong Island.
We took the cable car down at around 3 as I was getting seriously warm and dehydrated in the humidity! We grabbed a small bite to eat and took the amazing air coned metro back to our hotel as I was due to pick up my suit at 5.
After a quick chill time we went by the store to pick it up and I tried it on. Seemed to be good quality and fitted well so I was thankful for them turning something around so fast! Shook hands with David the owner and went off for dinner.
The first day we arrived we walked past an authentic Chinese place with a huge queue around the block. We’ve been told to always go where the locals go so we tried our luck again today. Thankfully the queue wasn’t too bad (tried to capture it in one of the photos) so we went for it. For chatting a nice Chinese guy in the queue who told us this place was famous in Hong Kong and recommended going for the pork cutlets they serve with spicy curry sauce and rice.
The place was tiny and packed out so much so that we actually were seating opposite from a woman who had just ordered. Was a bit alien at first with the eye contact weird but we got chatting to her and she was also hyping the place up. She explained she used to work in the area and was walking through so came by for old times sake.
Portion sizes are huge so we got one to share with some beef noodles. It came quick and did not disappoint , I think the best pork I’ve ever had and I love anything breaded! Noodles were also amazing and we polished it off at a rapid rate! There was no menus , no English, no bills just an old chinese woman serving us and shouting and the lady opposite translating but probably the best meal for me in Hong Kong. And it was cheap!🇭🇰
After the meal we were stuffed and walked over to the bar we had drinks at the other night! After a couple we called it a night and headed back for our last night on our hotel. Early start tomorrow for our trip to Seoul.
We’ve loved our time in Hong Kong and it’s been a mix of craziness, amazing food and good culture! Hong Kong island was the place to be as you can get around easily. The humidity has been tough at times and as I write this the heavens have opened so perfect time to leave. Now onto Seoul for the final week 🫡 Czytaj więcej
