Heading North on a 48-day, 13-stop itinerary. Started today with an easy 6 hour drive up I-75, across the state of Florida on US 301 & then I-95 to just south of Savannah. Labor Day Friday traffic was light, but the heat was on - 95 degrees on arrival. Spending part of the holiday weekend at Creekfire Motor Ranch (Landcruisers - our rally destination October 2019). Into Savannah tomorrow.Okumaya devam et

  • North on 95

    4 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We spent a couple of days driving north from Savannah. Visited the Special Forces Museum in Fayetteville, NC and a quick stop at Colonial Williamsburg, VA. Arrived just outside of DC today. Will spend the rest of the week in this sleepy little town & see if we can help stir it up a bit.Okumaya devam et

  • Departing DC. On to NYC.

    9 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

We spent 6 days in the Washington DC area. Was I the mid-90s when we arrived. Barely 60 when we left. We visited the White House, Capitol and Supreme Court, Alexandria. Surprisingly, the Obamas new home address is easily found online but Secret Service prevented us from dropping by as we drove through their neighborhood and nearby DuPont Circle. Cherry Hill Park is a 10 our of 10 campground!Okumaya devam et

  • 9/11

    11 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We are staying at Liberty Harbor RV & Marina in Jersey City directly across from Manhattan. While nothing much more than a parking lot with utilities, it offered an incredible view of the 9/11 “Tribute In Lights”

We also drove to the Jersey Coast and visited Mt Mitchell, the highest natural elevation on the Atlantic seaboard, where you can see all the way to Long Island and where residents gathered in 2001 to view the events of 9/11 unfold. There is a timeline walk & beautiful carved eagle memorial there.

We also viewed the “Empty Sky Memorial” in the nearby Liberty State Park that is also 1/2 mile from Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. It houses the remains of the New Jersey Railroad that the majority of immigrants processed through Ellis Island used to start their journeys to their new homes across the country.

    12 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Spent most of the day in Manhattan. Took a tour of the New York Public Library. Besides the classic architecture, it houses some great old artifacts including Charles Dickens writing desk and the original REAL stuffed animals that inspired AA Milne to create “Winnie the Pooh”.

We also attended “Frozen” on Broadway, walked Fifth Avenue, had a slice and a NY Pretzel.

  • A big week in the Big Apple

    16 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Not surprising, could have spent more time here to see more. Our campsite in Jersey provided a convenient access to the city. PATH train was a 15 minute trip to WTC. The ferry let us take Bo to Battery Park for a Saturday morning walkabout. We also explored the Jersey Shore, Liberty State Park and other walks along the Hudson with that great view of Manhattan.Okumaya devam et

  • Foxboro

    18 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We drove the 250 miles from Jersey City on Monday the 17th arriving at what we consider one of the best campgrounds we’ve ever visited (our 2nd time here). Normandy Farms in Foxboro Mass., which is about 3 miles from Gillette Stadium. The property ownership dates back to 1723 and is now run by the 7th-9th generations of the Daniels family. Bo enjoyed the great dog park which is among many amenities here. Tuesday the 18th was a washout from the remnants of Hurricane Francis giving us a chance to catch our breath after a couple of weeks of running around in DC & NYC.Okumaya devam et

  • Boston

    19 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We drove into Boston on Wednesday visiting JFK’s birthplace. The house still stands in Brookline. And yes he was born IN the house.

Next to Fenway Park for lunch in the Bleacher Bar below the “Green Monster” in left center field. There’s a ton of history around its perimeter. The Sox were out of town. Visited the Mapparium, a stroll down Newbury Street and lastly quickly stopping in a couple 250-year old churches before experiencing Boston rush hour back to Foxboro.Okumaya devam et

  • Newport Rhode Island

    21 Eylül 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

30 years ago we stayed at Newport’s Castle Hill Inn. Sitting out on a point, it offers amazing views of the channel leading to the famous Newport harbor. We had lunch before touring the Rosecliff Mansion, one of the “Newport Mansions” and then unexpectedly dropping in on an estate sale at the Harold Brown Villa, a 12 Bedroom, 14,000 sq ft mansion built in the 1890s during the “Gilded Age”, one of the last privately owned mansions that was being sold by the decedents of original owner.

In 2001 we attended the induction ceremony featuring Sparky Anderson & Tony Perez plus Marty Brenamen for the broadcaster award. Growing up as Cincinnati Reds fans, it was a great weekend. Met Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan that weekend an paid Pete Rose for an autograph.

We went back to the Hall today and spent a much quieter and less crowded day touring the hall and museum.

  • Finger Lakes Pt 2

    4 Ekim 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

We really like the Finger Lakes. Especially the south end. We have been in Watkins Glen since Monday. While the sun has been hiding most of the week, we have driven about 400 miles to take in the views, visit the Corning Glass Museum, drive the track at Watkins Glen International Speedway, hike the Gorge Trail at WG State Park (passing 19 waterfalls), and visit Ithaca (Cornell University).

The city campground in Watkins Glen is literally across the street from Seneca Lake. Was pretty empty until Thursday when it began to fill up for their LAST weekend of the season.

    6 Ekim 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Drove the motorhome 410 miles yesterday to get to just outside Charlottesville for the weekend, the last 2 hours after sunset, something we’ve not done before. We didn’t leave Watkins Glen until noon so we could take advantage of the beautiful weather in the morning. Put on a show for the neighbors backing into our spot in the dark at Shenandoah Crossing Campground, part of the Bluegreen Vacation Club

    Made it!

Gonna chill for the weekend and visit with friends before heading to Lake Toxaway Tuesday.

  • Charlottesville

    8 Ekim 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

First time visit into Charlottesville. Lots of history here. We didn’t have time this trip to visit Monticello or James Madison’s Montpelier but we did walk their charming downtown outdoor mall, have lunch with Rick (Holly & I went to college with and have been friends ever since), drive thru the UVA campus and see some spectacular horse farms on the drive back and forth.

We didn’t realize it at first but while visiting the mall, we parked the car almost exactly where Heather Heier, the victim in the rally last year, was run down. There are chalk boxes sitting on the sidewalk for people to write remembrances (for Heather) on the walls either side of the street.

We’ll definitely be back to Charlottesville with more time.

  • Riding out Michael

    11 Ekim 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Tuesday, we had a nice long drive from Shenandoah Crossing to Mountain Falls Motorcoach Resort in Lake Toxaway, NC about an hour west of Asheville. Beautiful country along I-81 from Virginia through Tennessee and on to North Carolina.

Along the way we got 2500 miles & a month’s worth of dirt washed off the coach, topped off the DEF and filled the tank in time to hunker down for the remnants of Hurricane Michael that passed to the south of us at Lake Toxaway, but still gave us about 24 hours of rain and /or 20-30 mph wind gusts. We were under a Tropical Storm WARNING for most of Thursday morning. No damage, just some coach shaking and trees swaying at 3200 feet up in the mountains.

  • Asheville, Brevard, Cashiers & Highlands

    15 Ekim 2018, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

While staying in Lake Toxaway, we’ve made some day trips to nearby towns. All are unique in their own way. In Asheville we randomly ran into our friends the Disbrows, who were in town for a wedding. Holly saw a (real) rare white squirrel in Brevard we enjoyed the crisp fall air walking around Highlands. Cashiers has a great farmers market and 2 of our favorite eateries that we visited for a couple of lunches.

Alas, our “Nor’easter” is coming to an end as we depart Tuesday for a 2-day drive back home
