Nearing Gürcistan

Its wet, dark and chilly, thunder cracks overhead. We head out of Ardahan past the old fort. The big dual carriageways we are following today are empty. Curious cows lean over the crash barrier. Shepherds sit under umbrellas looking at their mobile phones.

We are on high ground between 1800 and 2000m. Empty, wet, green hillsides and patches of snow. It looks like scotland with a few mosques added in.

A cold harsh headwind that we battle into and a rubbish forecast for the rest of the afternoon. We decide to call it a day a little early, just as the rain sets in, stopping in the last and very remote hotel before the border. Nearly the end of Türkiye!
