• After BIG mountains… BIG pass

We are a little unsure what to expect of the Zagari pass having seen videos of cyclist friends who had very muddy conditions about 10 days ago. The forecast is that the fine weather will break; so, tossing a coin, we decide to move on and tackle the pass in the dry and with visibility.

Its actually pretty straightforward with less mud and less dirt road than we had allowed for. Unlike the other passes over 2600m that we did in Turkey, it is much wider and being used by a few vehicles. Having said that, a recent minor landslide means that two ‘all-terrain’ camper-van monsters fail to get across the pass (having taken our photo!). And there is the obligatory socks-off/crocs-on crossing for us to cool our feet.

We are on the top nice and early and there is only one way to go. Which is down. This is handy as we are both quite shattered. We have beautiful views as we wind downwards and then we follow a lush forested valley for many miles, landing exhausted at a spot by the river. Yet again it is a torrent of thick dark grey raging and roaring waters - so grey that we debate whether it’s suitable even for washing up.
