Cheybogan Day 3

Today we took an Uber to Mackinaw City to catch the ferry to Mackinac (pronounce ‘Mackinaw) Island. The fort has an interesting history ($18 admission) and great views from its perch. The Tea Room restaurant has great views overlooking the city and lake below. We met Colby and Rosanne on C-Traveller, who are in a slip here. They gave us some great advice on options. Because the prevailing winds are from the West, we plan on slipping down the west coast of Wisconsin to limit that. We had four weather NO-GO days on Lake Erie, but none on Lake Huron. We may have one in a couple of days for sliding over the top of Lake Michigan, but that’s not bad at all for a trailer boat cruising the Great Lakes. The island is a very touristy resort town, of course, with centuries of competitive fudge makers and lots of ice cream parlors. It’s a don’t miss spot, but not exactly our cup of tea.
