A great date out in Lisbon with Jackson. We started the day off by forgetting it was an hour back. So we ended up with more time out then we originally thought. We went up a tower that I had found with another photographer last year so Jackson could see the city from above. We also came across the weirdest store i've ever seen. We both thought it was a kid's store until we got closer and realized it was a sardines store with a carousel and everything.

We finished off the day with a long lunch at Hard Rock Café where I enjoyed a VERY messy burger and Jackson had a club sandwich.

A shorter trip out into Barcelona. We met another photog Marie on the shuttle so she joined Jackson and I on our hunt for an Indian restaurant. We however had no luck and found a really nice place to eat, Rossini Pizzeria Ristorante. I had a BBQ burger which was amazing! Jackson had pizza (which I stole some of) and Marie had Gnocchi (which I also stole some of because I had never had that before) which was also very yummy. Jackson and I then walked back along the water to the shuttle and Marie went to find wifi and a coffee shop.Read more

Did not get off today because of passport issues but had a nice relaxing day instead. Then in the evening after work we actually got the whole team together (plus Jackson) at the crew bar. Afterwards some shoppies joined us and Santi brought his guitar.Read more

  • Le Spezia, Italy

    April 20, 2018 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Another day that did not go as planned. We all waited for the guys who were taking photos on the gangway to finish and then we all headed out together to go to Piza to see the leaning tower. We knew we had to take the train for an hour to get there and that was about it. We got outside and talked to the information desk, they gave us a map and circled the train station which was a 25 minute walk. When we got to the train station it would have been a 40 minute wait for the train. So we looked it up online and it would have been a 25 minute walk again after the train to get to the tower. So we strapped the idea and decided to just relax in Le Spezia instead. We are all now relaxing in a Café called Tripoli with wifi and waiting on our lunch.Read more

  • Cartagena, Spain

    April 24, 2018 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After searching in port after port Jackson finally got some Indian food. Thanks to two other Junior Bar Stewards we got to King Kebab for some shawarmas. It was my second time having a shawarma and it was yummy. King Kebab also has really good wifi so we’re still sitting there doing updates on our phones. After this Jackson is picking up a shawarma to surprise his cabin mate with and then we’re headed back to the ship. Today is an early sail at 4:30 so I have to start at 4:00.Read more

  • Gibraltar, Gibraltar

    April 25, 2018 in Gibraltar ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Yesterday we got stuck in Cartagena due to the retrieval system for a lifeboat breaking so we couldn’t pull it back up. We had crew drills in the morning and part of that sometimes is they lower the lifeboats on one side and practice driving them, giving cadets an opportunity to learn and check everything still works okay. We were suppose to sail at 4:30 but when we went up to take photos at the sail away party and saw a lifeboat in the water something was obviously wrong. They finally got the retrieval system fixed and for the lifeboat up around 11pm. So we were late arriving in Gibraltar. We docked around 11 and we are still leaving at 3:30 so there’s not much time. Jackson and I however have headed to Little Bay an Indian restaurant beside the water that a friend of his works at. It was really good. We will however have to be heading back to the ship soon since crew have to be onboard at 3pm.Read more

The party cruise from hell is finally over. One night to take, edit and sell all our photos. Needless to say there was a lot of running around and stress plus a lot of angry impatient passengers. Party cruises are younger passengers and they are use to things being instant when that’s not the way it works. We also REALLY struggled with cell phones. Younger passengers always have their phones in their hands and so they think it’s a great idea to steal our work and just take a photo on their phone of the photos on the board. It got to a point when we had to get security involved and they helped us keep an eye on the gallery. In the evening I had to run the gallery on my own because everyone else was taking photos. So the extra eyes was very helpful.

Party cruises really show the difference between the different generations. Our usual older clientele enjoy the cruise, couples walk around the ship holding hands and love to stop and chat with us asking where we’re from and getting to know us. The next generation however who come on party cruises, walk around the ship FaceTiming people back home. Couples walk together but ignore each other with both of them having their eyes glued to their phones. The restaurants are so much quieter with everyone just on their phones as well. They also have a completely different attitude towards the crew, just seeing them as being their to serve them.

  • Haugesund, Norway

    May 1, 2018 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

After a not great morning of finding out our plans of having a date night at the fanciest restaurant on the ship got ruined because Jackson’s request for deck privileges was denied we needed to get off the ship for a while.
We met up with my manager Manas and we went out exploring. This is the first time the Azura has docked in Haugesund but I’ve been on Aurora when it docked here twice. There’s not much here, we just walked up and down the Main Street, finding pizza place after pizza place. Mixed in occasionally with a Chinese restaurant. Most shops were closed because it’s a bank holiday here. So of course Jackson and I ended up at a pizza place for a late lunch and some wifi before we have to hear back to the ship for lunch. Definitely a good port for going on tour next time.

Was suppose to be on a tour today that would have been on the train but gave it to another photographer Rob so I could spend the day with Jackson. His team leader gave him the day off because he felt bad. A few days ago Jackson had requested deck privileges which his bar manager denied. Even after Jackson’s team leader who makes the schedule told him he could find someone to cover Jackson. Knowing tonight had meant a lot to us and not being able to do anything about it he was at least able to give Jackson the day to go out with me.

We slept in a bit and then went out. Hiking every inch of the nearby walking trails. Getting some really nice views of the ship. We’ve been told that if you walk along the road you find waterfalls but that adventure will have to wait until next time.

Decided not to get off today and just relaxed in preparation for tonight’s formal night and tomorrow’s photomania (the last day of the cruise). Our two busiest days back to back. Normally at the end of a cruise everyone is in a bad mood because they are tired but this is my last formal and last photomania for a while so I’m in a great mood!
It was finally also confirmed today that my accompanied travel for next cruise is confirmed so I will be staying on the ship for one more cruise (Canaries cruise) as a passenger!
Because I know he always reads my posts I would also like to say a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lewis Groom (https://findpenguins.com/12r11toqskphz)! I hope you had an amazing day!

I’M DONE! I’m officially a passenger! 2 weeks of lounging around the ship. I almost wasn’t able to stay because the cruise was almost full and I discovered yesterday it’s because Ollie Smith is on. The creator of the Glass House onboard the ships.
Tomorrow I find out if I get a passenger cabin but for now I’m still just in my crew cabins. I would obviously prefer a passenger cabin but I’m also happy to stay in my crew cabin if it means I get to stay and be with Jackson for our one year anniversary.
