    Little Visitor

    June 11 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

There was tons of traffic on our way here but still an uneventful drive. We made it to our camp site in Hidden Valley Campground around 2:30.
We’re all setup for rain this weekend with our new bug tent (thanks Mom and Dad!) and a tarp to be able to go back and forth between tents.
Very early in our setup a raccoon walked beside us through our campsite so I had a feeling we’d be seeing him again. His third trip through our campsite he decided to come check out our new bug tent and strolled inside by crawling underneath, while I was standing right beside it. After some yelling and stick throwing it just looked at me and moved on. We’ll definitely be seeing more of the raccoon this weekend.

  • Morning Exploration

    June 12 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Our little visitor was back many times last night. At one point pushing on the tent right at my head, almost poking me in the nose. For most of the evening we could tell where he was in the campground because we’d randomly hear someone yell “GET OUT OF HERE!” from different places. When we got up in the morning, nothing however was out of place. You could tell it had climbed up on our table because of dirt but that was it.
After many rude awakenings in the night, we slept in a bit. We had some scrambled eggs and tea for breakfast and headed out to explore. Covering basically the entire park before heading back to our campsite for lunch.
We explored both beaches, which was really just one beach with two entrances. It was shockingly cold by the water. There was a few groups of people in the water but I don’t think we’ll be doing any swimming this weekend.

  • Owen Point Trail

    June 12 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Next up was the slightly longer and much wetter Owen Point Trail. There was a sign at the beginning that the trail was flooded in some places. For the most part it was just muddy but there was one lookout we couldn’t get to because of water. This trail wasn’t as nice as the boardwalk with not as much to see. The lookout points were all just slightly further down, looking at the same islands, Gull and High Bluff Islands. There were a lot of birds circling the island, which is their nesting grounds, but that was all there was to see.
This trail was conveniently right next to the camp store, so we finished off today’s trails with ice cream before heading back to our campsite.

  • S’mores

    June 12 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Finished the day off with a campfire and s’mores. As expected, the campground has definitely gotten a lot busier tonight. The few camp sites we can see from our site are all now full. We had extra entertainment while sitting at the fire of listening and seeing the other campsites discover the very unafraid raccoon as he went around and investigated everyone’s tents. We expect we won’t get as many visits from him tonight now that there’s a lot of other camp sites to explore.Read more

  • Rainy Morning

    June 14 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Knowing it was going to rain today we packed up a little bit last night. We were glad we did as it was pouring when we woke up. We waited it out watching tv shows until it slowed a bit. Everything was soaked so we just crammed everything into garbage bags and came home to set everything up again to dry. Made it home by 1:30pm to get unpacked and ready for work tomorrow.Read more
