    From frontier town to a bustling river port and gold rush city, Rockhampton's colonial past and fortunes are preserved in sandstone and wrought iron. In September 1858 gold was discovered approximately 50ks north of Rockhampton. The town grew rapidly in its early years with increasing prosperity built mainly around the pastoral, cattle and gold mining industries. Thankfully we have these beautiful buildings as a legacy of Rockhampton's early years of prosperity.Read more
