      The Outback Experience

      April 29, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Read more

      Apex Park Overflow

      July 18, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Arrive and find Darren and Kris have selected a spot with heaps of space for us to camp in beside them (as we've been doing for a while now). Set ourselves up - cuppa time and great time to make some calls to catch up with loved ones....
Next get ready to be picked up by a courtesy bus for our evening cruise - it will collect us at 4.30pm.
Bus collects us (abit later than stated) and takes us at most 2kms to where we'll board the paddle boat. Can tell by the lovely banter from our young bus driver Will, who tells us he'll also be on our cruise, that tonight should be fun. It certainly was! The captain was an older gentleman who had plenty of stories to tell. After the cruise we were seated around a beaut campfire and entertained and feed a beaut 2 course meal, Beef stew with mash and bread, followed by apple dessert with custard. Plenty of food and yummy. Next we're taken to a outdoor screen and comfortably seated to watch a film about Captain Starlight, a cattle rustler. Enjoyable too, this is followed by returning to the campfire area for tea, coffee and damper (freshly cooked in camp ovens in front of us) smothered in golden syrup 🤗🙂 Bus then drops us off back at campground. So cold we call it a night and retreat into our caravans with heaters cranked up! Shower time for Rog. Bedtime.
Friday morning sees us up early to get our battery set up looked at (Roger booked this in while we where at Winton). Roger has his Weetbix for breakfast, I hold off on this - will have mine in Longreach. Say our goodbyes to Darren and Kris, they are heading in a different direction now - homeward bound for Tasmania. Been so beaut travelling with them, kind and generous folk we've enjoyed getting to know - promise to keep in touch.
Get the ute and caravan to Auto Electrician shop well before 8am.

Spent 3 nights at Longreach....unable to see the dentist but did stock up on painkillers from the pharmacy for Al's tooth. Visited the Wellshot pub at Ilfracombe....a lot of history there. Rain 🌧 yesterday and this morning but cleared by the afternoon. Friendly Muscovy ducks wandering around...Read more

Longreach - Muddy Duck van park

      August 1, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

A short trip up from the Lara wetlands stopped at Barcaldine for lunch and cruised on into Longreach. We both went to the Stockman‘s Hall of Fame and spent probably four hours there then the next day I went to the Qantas Museum which was a little underwhelming. Next day went to the Longreach Powerhouse Museum this was quite interesting with all the original equipment mostly in place. this is where we first heard about the rats and the rat plague with the rats doing damage to cars wiring LoomsRead more

      Apex Park Overflow

      July 19, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Come back to this campground mid afternoon and settle ourselves on the same side we were on with Schmidtke's- just a bit further in.
I'm determined to catch up on our budgeting (hand written in books!) to make sure we're on track.... Not going to quite get that finished today, not able to log in to ME Bank to check off our grocery spending.
Relaxing here at camp, enjoy our tea of Chilli Con Carne on potato and watching the beautiful sunset. Roger has showered and we're going to have a cuppa and get to bed to read. Roger already asleep by the time I get to bed, and I decide to watch TV instead. Paramount + A Guilded Age Season 1 watched episodes 1 & 2.
Saturday morning sees us get up around 8am, have our breakfast, Weetbix for Roger, porridge for me. Then I shower and get prepared to go swimming later before wep come back to our caravan. We head off to Longreach to the Bakery to get some bread. Next Longreach Stockman's Hall of Fame.
Had a wonderful time here -took most of the day up so we reneged on going for a swim. Go do a decent grocery shop at the IGA supermarket before heading back to our campsite. Next went for a walk and checked out Apex Park amenities - lovely undercover area beside the river with toilets and BBQ's. Then relax until tea preparation, nice and easy, bought cooked chook and stri fry vegetables. Roger has his shower, off to bed. I get in bed and watch more A Guilded Age S1 Ep 3,4 & 5. Goodnight.
Sunday morning sees us pottering around, have breakfast, then I get on my mobile to pay a couple of bills....on checking Rog's MyGov account - get a shock to discover we are are overdue on a tax payment required for 22/23 year. This sends me in a 'fluster' and I get sidetracked while I muck up my own MyGov accessibility as I try to check on it to get a full understanding where we are at with ATO. In the end decide it's a Sunday - no use trying to contact anyone about the overdue amount, so get back to organising what we're up to for the day....I suggested a walk in Longreach, Roger already has the caravan ready to move on out, so we drive into town, park in the RV parking area again, and go for a walk along the Botanic Walk. Do around 5kms and end up walking back past the Merino Bakery to get some more fresh bread. Back to our caravan to make up sandwiches for our lunch. We decide to head to Ilfracombe to try out their Artesian Spa...off we drive....

      A day in Longreach

      September 20, 2018 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

What a night we had! Cadbury ended up quite unsettled, waking after midnight and pacing up and down for a couple of hours. We took him out a couple of times but when he went out with Gadi he just shot away as fast as he could to our neighbour’s van. In the end we gave him a temazepam to sedate him a little and help him settle. He was fine in the morning but it gave us a bit of a scare especially as he’s getting older.

Today was Gadi’s turn to sightsee at the Qantas Founders Museum where he took a tour to see the big jumbo 747 and the smaller 707 up close and personal.

After exploring the Qantas museum he went across the road to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame before doing a bit of shopping in town.

Meanwhile, Cadbury and I spent the day at camp, happy that it was only 31 and not 35 degrees, as yesterday. Unfortunately the strong wind made it almost impossible to sit outside as the wind blew a dust storm across the camp area. We retreated inside most of the day, relaxing and reading. Although I closed some of the windows in the caravan, quite a bit of dust made its way inside settling on every surface.

Finally Gadi returned, the wind subsided and we had our own little happy hour with some lovely cold white wine, cheese, olives, mini tomatoes and some sweet, cold papaya. This tided is over while I rolled out some pizza dough and added some veggies on top and cooked it (in the Weber of course) for a lazy dinner.

Meanwhile, a duck came by to say hello and we snapped some pics of Cadbury eyeing off the bird. We also had a visit by the Asian couple who came by yesterday selling vegetables from a little cart (we bought some tomatoes). It was funny watching the little Asian man try to catch the duck!

Time to head indoors to clean up and chill out!
