Der heutige Tag ist mit dem Wort "Trüb" am besten beschrieben. Es hat fast die ganze Nacht geregnet. Bastelarbeit von Beat hat funktioniert😊😊 und auch den ganzen Tag über gab es kaum trockene Momente🌨🌬🤨.
Während der halben Fahrt ging es einem der grössten Süsswassersee entlang. Der beschriebene Wassermangel war gut erkennbar. Sehr wenig Wasser das braun war und einen unangenehmen Geruch.
Ja und unsere Stimmung bei diesem Wetter und der zu Ende gehender Camperzeit auch eher 😢😢
Wir lassen uns jedoch nicht unter bringen und geniessen den Apero draussen 🍻🍟🤗😎Read more

Final Countdown to Adelaide

Heute lief alles relativ entspannt ab.

Nach dem ausschlafen ging es langsam weiter auf den Weg nach Adelaide.

Zwischendurch wurde noch kurz ein Bodyboard gekauft in der Hoffnung, dass man irgendwie damit auf Wellen cruisen kann. 😁

Insgesamt stehen ca. 700km auf der Uhr und das erste Ziel ist greifbar nahe.

In Adelaide wollen wir dann unser Auto ummelden sowie Kangaroo Island besuchen eine Insel welche hauptsächlich aus einem Naturschutzgebiet mit vielen verschiedenen Tierarten besteht.

Direkt neben einer WLAN Telefonzelle haben wir uns für diese Nacht einquartiert.

Murray Bridge and The Final Stretch

We got to Adelaide in the mid-afternoon and were reunited with Trixie’s husband Charles and their pups Milo and Millie. After returning the rental car at Adelaide Airport, we had Vietnamese Chinese food before coming back to Trixie’s home to watch more cricket.

The morning started with the local CFS holding a training session in the carpark near our camp. They really put a lot of effort into training the volunteers and in this case it was a group of teenagers who were at the local youth camp. Showing them how to fill the tanker from the river, direct the water stream from the back of the truck and handle all the gear. It was very professional and it looked like the kids enjoyed it as well.
It didn't take the feral who was camped next to us long to move into our spot as soon as we left. Goodness knows how long he planned on staying there.
The drive to Murray Bridge went through Mannum and then pretty much followed the river. Mannum looked really interesting so we determined to come back to explore another day. Murray Bridge was a much larger town than we expected. We found our way through and down to the caravan park we had booked for a few days. It was a lovely park attached to a houseboat marina and well grassed. It was catch up with washing day so we didn't get out much for the rest of the day.Read more

Another day in Murray Bridge as we slowed down a little after travelling so far. The packing/travelling/unpacking on most days gets a little tiring for both of us. I took the car to a local car wash and promptly managed to snap the antenna of the UHF radio. My own stupid fault. I've managed to repair it enough for it to still work, so all is not lost. It has been invaluable on the highways through the centre of the country.
We had seen a promising walk on a levee bank along the banks of the river the day before so we went for a brisk stroll in the afternoon. The walk took us under the original "Murray Bridge" which was the first bridge built that spanned the Murray River. Started in 1873 and completed in 1879 it is still in use today. I'm not sure what part the dog in the picture played in the construction of the bridge.Read more

Another morning of loads of washing and cleaning the van. Faye focused on the interior and much of the exterior was washed down. The park was happy to allow us to use a bucket and sponge just no washing the exterior with a hose. No idea why. I wasn't happy with the state of the roof but not much I could do about it. Once we had done as much as we could we headed off to catch up with some shopping and odds and ends. We hadn't seen a Bunnings for some time. Also had the chance to explore the riverbank parkland which was quite lovely and we happened to stumble over the only known location of a "real" Bunyip. Amazing!Read more

Lunch at Tailem Bend

Stopped next to the railway station and bought fresh bread, lettuce and tomatoes and made a lovely lunch. A sunny day so far and some winds but not cold.

559 kms - So after another morning the phone to state government COVID information lines we were finally told that as we left the ‘red zone’ of Darwin 1 week before it was declared a ‘red zone’ we were able to re enter Victoria on a green permit meaning we do not have to isolate when we return. We left Pimba, had a coffee in front of the ranges before we had to stop at Port Augusta for COVID swab on the way through. We were also told that we had permission to stay with family when passing through SA, so tonight we are at Mum and Dads! Big catch up, photo sharing, feed of ‘Tasty Wok’ noodles and rice and a good nights sleeps before the last stretch tomorrow.Read more

To Murray Bridge

So we thought we had been getting up reasonably early this trip, unfortunately Walker didn't think so and woke us up at 4am demanding to go outside. He is getting much better on this trip though. We had already planned on leaving early so we thought bugger it, we'd just get up and go and were on the road a little after 5am.

We stopped for lunch at Port Augusta and found a good area to run Walker. He is still going strong...he is getting frustrated from being in the car for so long but still behaving! Especially with the long long days of driving (we are averaging around 9 hours of driving (plus stops) each day. I would probably do it again.

We decided early in the morning to stick to the original plan and stay the night in Murray Bridge, that would leave us with 8.5 hours left to drive tomorrow. We ended up arriving around 3pm so we had time to relax and find a dog park.

I would definitely recommend staying in Murray Bridge. We stopped at the Murray Bridge Central Olympic Motel. It isn't much to look at from the outside but it's very dog friendly, the rooms are comfortable and it is very close to town and the dog park.

Takeaway Pizza tonight fo dinner...I got the Lamb Yiros pizza and it was bloody amazing!! It was basically a souvlaki on a pizza! MmmRead more
