The Grampians

We drove a little bit more up north and ended up in the Grampians National park. Jason, Hester’s roommate, told us which hikes we had to do. Which we did the next day. In the area we also found some old aboriginal paintings.

We found our third free campsite and this one was beautiful again. We are amazed how well maintained the free campsites are. Quite clean, enough toilet paper and mostly even water for dishes etc.

Thanks to Hester we have a tent for the three of us and some comfortable air mattresses and sleeping bags. These are necessary, because so far the nights are very very cold. We’ve already been to multiple ‘up shops’ to get some more layers to wear.

At this campsite we saw our first kangaroos and wallabies. Whole families were hopping around our tent during the night. Later we also found white kangaroos and Emus.Read more

67 • Auf dem Hollow Mountain

Ein gutes Erwachen: kein Regen und Blick auf Berge, Kängurus und Cockatoos. Und Mia kann sich erstmal auf dem Trampolin austoben. Da für Nachmittags die nächsten Regenfälle prophezeit sind, brechen wir bald in die nördlichen Grampians auf, wo Martin sich noch ein bekanntes Kletter- und Bouldergebiet am Hollow Mountain anschauen will. Landschaft und Felsen sehen beeindruckend aus. Auf dem Weg zum Gipfel müssen wir auch ein paar kleine Kletterstellen überwinden und dem starken Wind trotzen. Oben kann Mia im leichten Gelände auf und ab spazieren und Martin sich in der Hollow Mountain Höhle an kleinen Griffen entlanghangeln. Eine tolle kleine Bergtour! Da die Regenwolken schon im Anmarsch sind kraxeln wir bald wieder nach unten. Der Rückweg führt uns über abenteuerliche Straßen wieder auf den Highway nach Süden. Schafe, soweit das Auge reicht.
