      Moving sites!

      September 17, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

      This is a bit exciting.

Bumper is moving to this wonderful site.

We had packed away a few things from both sites, eg ... we moved tables and chairs and mats and kayaks and motor bikes and paddle boards and buckets and dogs and dog runs etc ...
And placed them all to one side by the huge Morton Bay Fig.
It looked like we were having a garage sale

I moved Tin Tin to park next to the cabin, right next to the garage sale items.

Emily drove Bumper forward, then backed him back across onto the next site.
A bit of straightening up, and she was done.
We then placed all Emily’s things on her site.
And I backed Tin Tin into her old site and moved my gear to that site.

We wound out Bumper’s awning and stood back to admire.
      It looks wonderful.
It’s shady where you need it.
She has a boundary with the fig.
And there is shade on the roof of the bus.
      Brilliant.

Then I bought out the balloons and huge Happy Birthday banner.
I needed her help to stick the banner across her windscreen.
And I blew up the balloons and tied them to the front bumper bar and the awning ropes.

No one was going to miss the fact that it was Emily’s Birthday.
Just in case, I wrote “ It’s Emily’s Birthday” on the blackboard.
People driving in and out waved and called out “Happy Birthday.”

      ( Job well done.)

So then I invited the whole park ...

      September 17, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

To party with us under the awning at 4.30pm.
      BYO
I went from van to van and just invited people.
Mainly, the people I knew from the park, but I am sure I invited some total strangers,
They were very polite and quite a few turned up.

      Emily worked again til 3pm.
      We wandered the water again.
Thought we were going to swim, but played in the creek instead.

      Emily cooked a few sausages.
      ( We had forgotten lunch.)
People walking past were stopping to talk.
One lady told her husband that is exactly what I want my caravan to look like on my birthday on Monday!

A couple I talked to turned out to be the parents of one of Meagan’s best friends.
It’s amazing how the conversation seems to work it’s way round to something like that.
      Having a good time?
      Berwick.
      Oh. Narre Warren
      More stuff....
Then, my children probably went to school with Emily. No they are a bit younger.
They went to school in Pakenham.
My niece and nephew went there. Meagan and Nathan Street.
      MEAGAN...... MEAGAN STREET?
She’s best friends with our daughter, Anna.

      Wow.
We could have just talked about the weather.

      People started to arrive.
About a dozen or 14 came in the end.
      We had a great time.
      Much laughter.
      Caravan park recommendations.
What site have you got for next year?
And a rather rousing rendition of Happy Birthday was sung.

As it drew to a close, Reece the young man in charge of the park tonight came up and wished Emily a Happy Birthday and said he was glad most people had left because he was going to have to remind us about social distancing otherwise.
And just chatting was much more fun.

The last people left about 6.30pm.
It was a lovely, friendly afternoon/evening.

      Pork chops for dinner.

      Much hugging.
      Great day!

      Happy Birthday Emily xxxxxx

      And lots...

      September 18, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

      Of photos.
      Early morning walk.
      Beautiful sunny day.
Watching the tide race into the creek.
      This is our favourite thing!!!!!

Turned around, and there was Scout racing towards us.
Martine on her Friday off, coming for a swim in the creek.
She is a water baby, this one.

      And lots more ...

      September 18, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

      Photos.

Packed Tin Tin to within an inch of his life.
Anything that moved was packed away.
So all I have to do each morning of my home journey is ...
      Get up ..
      Have breakfast ...
Push the bed back into the couch ...
Put the extra mattress on top of the bed ...
Load the 2 kayak pieces ...
      And drive away.

Emily and I went to Woolies.
      Forgot our list.
      I got all my stuff.
Emily forgot to buy her salt.

Filled up Tin Tin with Petrol.
I drove back to the Service Station later to pick up some Coolant for the van.
      And a pie each.
      We had forgotten lunch again.

Emily finished work and we went for a walk.
      Crossed the creek.
      Beautiful afternoon.
      Daryl rang.
      He was at our site.
      We headed back.
Saw Daryl walking across the sand towards us and tried to point him out to Lacey.
But she, very determinedly, kept racing towards another walker.
( Her long vision may be a touch impaired.)
      We kept calling her back.
      Then she saw him.
And she absolutely flew across the sand and leapt straight into the creek and swam across to jump all over him.

All 4 of us wandered and had that last look towards Woopi.

      And a couple more ...

      September 18, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

      Last night at Woopi.

I have had the best time.

      Just lots of talking.
I was telling Emily that my Grandfather, Dad’s Dad was nicknamed ‘Poet’ when he served in the First World War .... lots of stories told...
We talked about what a great name that is.
And after a bit of ‘trying the name on for size’, Emily is naming her puppy ‘Poet’.
      Great sounding name.

I have absolutely had the best time.

Get the names of places VERY wrong....
      But ...
Then I had this awful realisation.

I turned to Emily and said, “ My new van is going to be called ‘Dorringo’, isn’t it?”

      We both collapsed in hysterics.
Daryl took us somewhere ... 3 different places actually ... and I could not get their names right.
One of them, I kept calling ‘Dorringo’.
Daryl and Emily keep bursting into song ...
“ Dorringo .... dum da da da da da da ... Dorringo “
      Like a Western movie.
      I’m sunk.
      The van’s name is Dorringo.

      Very lazy day

      July 17, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

      Woke about 7.30am.
Daryl and Martine had already left for their morning walk on the beach.
Emily and I headed into Woopi for Brunch.
      Very, very nice.
At the same little cafe that Daryl and Martine were sitting at when they were waiting to hear if their offer on this house had been accepted.
A bit of a cheer went up from their table when they heard it had ...
And they have been friendly with the cafe owner ever since.

      Wandered the shops.
      I bought earrings.
      Love them.
We looked for a stunning hat for Emily...
      She likes hats.
      Too hard to describe.
Will take a photo when she finds one.

      Came home.
      And absolutely collapsed.
I had to go for a nap.
      Emily too.

      We were worn out.
( Not normally a nap person. Think I could be now. Bit of a worry.)

Helped Martine plant 6 palms at the boundary out the front.
      Huge difference.
      She is so thrilled.
      Lamb roast.
( Still emptying meat out of the freezer in Tin Tin.)
And a very lazy night around the open fire in the back yard.

      That’s it.
Getting very fond of my bed.
Think I will live in the hammock at the lake.

Then we checked out The Lake

      July 15, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Headed to Woolgoolga Lakeside Caravan Park to check out the lake...
      Love this location.
The tide was coming in so rushing into the lake.
But there are sandbars everywhere so it is so shallow.
And the water is crystal clear.
This will be fun to play on!
And right next to the park.

Oh and Daryl painted the roof of his house.
      AND made dinner.

      Oh!
      Oh!
      AND ....
      Emily bought a Postie Bike.
      ( I’ll never keep up now )

This holiday adventure is getting better and better.

    • Day 45

      She’s no artist.

      August 24, 2020 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Walked into Woopi via the road.
      Quickest way.
( Emily was out of coffee.)
We had looked at maps and imagined ourselves walking this road to Blue Bottles Cafe so often.
We can’t believe it as we actually do the walk.
A coffee and a banana smoothie at Blue Bottles and a leisurely walk back along the beach in the sun.
Hardly any waves and no wind.

Emily took the paddle board out on the lake.
I sat down to paint a picture.
I was worried with Emily working, I wouldn’t have anything to do in the park.
So, in my wisdom, I purchased some paints, 2 very small canvases etc.
This was all while we were still staying at Daryl’s.

      So today was the day.
I sat and watched a show at Daryl’s showing John Ross Learn To Paint.
      It was brilliant.
If you are bored, watch him on you tube.
I think the shows were made in the 60s.
      But he is so clever.
Made it look like anyone could do it.
      Probably anyone with patience could.
So I set up a video and away I went.
Did not enjoy it at all.
      “Why wasn’t I reading,” I thought.
      I love reading.
      I hate this.

So, in the photos is the result.
Because the actual thing is in the bin.
( It’s supposed to be the sea at sunset ....I think it looks better upside down or sideways ... either side.)

“ Oh good. I can go back to reading!”

      Walked on the beach.
The waves had come up a bit so too big for kayaking on the sea.
      Phew.

Emily left to meet Crystal at the a Pub On The Hill at about 1.30.
( I don’t think it is actually called that.)

      I read on the deck.
Then, because I was picking Emily up later, as the evening set in, I set myself up in Bumper.
      Dog, cat and a book.
      Reacher.... Killing Floor.

Emily text about 7.30pm and went to pick her up.
      She had a ball.
Crystal and a housemate and a friend and a couple of boyfriends.
      Great day.
So they all put their heads together and are organising a Silent Disco on the town oval for Friday night.
This is such a small town.
I think it will be a blast.

So set up Tin Tin for bed very late....

      Nigh nigh. Xxxx

    • Day 20

      Great day, lovely night.

      July 30, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Beautiful day again today. 21 degrees and sunny though windy.
      Walked Lacey on the beach.
Emily had a computer man arrive to declare that her computer was safe to use from home.
      ( Read ‘Bus’ there.)
      Organised from Canada.
They found a man in Coffs Harbour and he turned up.
      Fascinating man.
He and his wife had sailed the world for 5 years in his yacht.
He didn’t blink an eyelid at a Hiace or Coaster.
      All OK.
      He left.
Martine and Scout arrived for a walk.
Emily had finished her meetings so we played around the creek and ocean.
      More work for Emily
Except she rode her Postie to the supermarket ... mainly for dog shampoo.
( We did leave in rather a hurry.)
      I forgot several things!
      Scissor cut Lacey’s hair.
She was rather long and ‘ knotty’.
The scissors did have some trouble cutting through all the sand in her coat though.
Big go through the coat with the dog brush...
      All the knots gone.
Off to the dog wash that they have at this caravan park.
      I have a new dog!!!!
She looks beautiful, and smells devine!

So, we had been using my fridge as a freezer.
But the 2nd battery was not coping that well as I haven’t been driving anywhere really to recharge it, so had to take all the no longer frozen food out of the fridge and cook it.
      ( Well, Emily cooked it.)

And she said “ Keep an eye out for Matt and Jess. We can feed them.”
While I was doing that, I also installed ‘Fairy Lights’ in Tin Tin.
The last few nights I was trying to figure out what was wrong, because as soon as the sun set, I could not see a thing.
      ( Old age.)
But once the ‘Fairy Lights’ were in, I was in heaven ....
      Sight restored.
      Yah !

      No Matt and Jess.
      Went looking for their van.
      Not there.
      Started to worry.
They had been invited to a free meal for desperate people last night and were hesitant to go.
So we decided that they had been kidnapped by White Slavers.
      Really started to worry.

      Oh.
      No.
      Look.
      That’s them.

Emily chased their van as they drove in.
      “Free food. Bring containers”

So they arrived and we had dinner together.
      Filled their containers.
      “No, we can’t.”
      “Yes, you can”
      Etc....

      Had a wonderful night.
      Lovely young couple.
Lots of laughs and stories told.
      ( Yah. New audience!)

      They left about 9pm.
So much food... but all shared really well now.

      My fairy lights are amazing.
      So happy.
Did not show up that well in the photo though.

      Great day.
Happily ensconced in bed with my fairy lights.
      Very comfortable bed.
      Clean dog.
      Just lovely.

    • Day 19

      Beautiful day ...

      July 29, 2020 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

      Had a lovely day today.
Emily went walking early before she started work.
Lacey and I headed off a bit later about 8am.
      Brilliant sunshine.
      About 21 degrees.
The tide was out so wandered the sandbars in the middle of the lake.

I walked into Woopi along the beach.
      Perhaps a kilometre....
Woopi is the same distance along the beach from our camp as the walk along the beach into Cowes from the caravan down there.
Talked to lots of walkers along the way.
Went to Crazy Sams.... just needed a couple of things and the supermarket is too far away to walk to.
      Really enjoyed the walk.
      Will do that a lot.

Pulled the deck out on Tin Tin and read on Kindle.
Lacey curls up next to me and we wave to everyone who comes past.
We are on the main entrance/exit road into the caravan park.
      Everyone looks and waves.
Lots of people stop to chat.
One lady asked if she could have my job when I retire.
      Found that quite funny.

A young couple walked past and really liked the idea of the deck.
They had driven past in a bright green Volkswagen camper yesterday and gave me the ‘thumbs up’.
      I thought they were surfers.
      We chatted.
Turns out they are on a working holiday around Oz, and are from Germany.
      Matt and his girlfriend Jess.
They are working here picking blueberries.
They get paid $7 a bucket load.
Worked 6 hours today and picked 10 buckets.
I think that was between them.
      Not a lot of money.

They loved Emily’s bus and are here for 2 months I think.
We arranged to have them over for dinner.
Will be lovely for Emily to have young company here.
Emily is also heading into Coffs on a Friday for a group that meet once a week, hoping to meet people as well.

      We had shanks for dinner!!!!

Lots of walks and playing in the water.
Along the bush road into the park, Daryl pointed out all the bats hanging upside down in the trees.
Well tonight we saw them all leave and fly towards the sea ...
      There were hundreds.
And they did not make a sound.
      It was fascinating to watch.
I took a photo but unfortunately didn’t think quick enough and only got a few in the shot, the tail end of the group.
      Love the photo though.

      That’s it for today.
I write this each night laying in bed.
      Feels nice.
