  • 11.1 Quepos

    February 13, 2019 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

I really have to say that there are very nice places in Costa Rica, but it is so incredibly expensive. A dorm bed under 10$? ... very occasionally possible.

But the beaches here are very wide and go very flat into the ocean. Waves are not too strong and run for a while until hey hit shore.Read more

  • 12.2 Soursop Hostal

    February 16, 2019 in Panama ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Founded and built by an American couple, the Soursop Hostal is named after a tree that grows there and of which tee is made every day. You can also eat the fruit, but non was ready at the time I was staying there. Apart from that, there are other fruits and vegetables, which are all grown on a property behind the one the hostel is on.

It feels super great there and more like a family life, rather than a hostel. Liked it a lot. I also tried the cacao fruit meet. So the inside of the cacao fruit contains the seeds and looks like a pomegranate (Granatapfel in German). So there is this wired filling mass between the seeds. And guess what ... it taste like mango and is super sweet. Who would have thought that?

  • 12.4 Very unfortunate times

    February 20, 2019 in Panama ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Everything went perfekt and I had figured out my way to cross the Darien Gap (Panama and Columbia)! However, almost there and this Panamanian taxi driver hit me! Now, the motorcycle is trash and I have a bird of bureaucratic sh** ahead of my!

But I am fine and other and some scratches, nothing happened! Backpack functioned as a airbag! Lucky me!

  • 12.5.1 Sailing the Wild Card

    February 25, 2019 in Panama ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

After the rather unpleasant events in Panama I quickly found a captain who could take me to Columbia, more precise: Cartagena!

5 nights on a sailboat! Sailing the San Blas Islands. “Captain! How is the sea going to be for someone who is used to Sailing?” Carli the captain: “It’s gonna be rough!” “...”
And it was going to be rough! Hold your guts, they might come out!

So we set sail! (Or rather engine, because the wind is coming from the wrong direction during this time world the year.)

    So

  • 12.5.2 Island 1 (Julio)

    February 25, 2019 in Panama ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

First island stop is on a island called “Julio” (coincidence?). So we stopped for some hours at the beach, had an island walk, played beach volleyball (or something similar to it), we had a BBQ and went snorkelling.

What else would you need? ...

Right a island party with a bonfire!

  • 13.1 Carnival

    March 2, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

No time to relax; on the same day of arrival in Cartagena we spontaneously and immediately (after waiting 3 h for the entry stamp) took a Uber to the bus terminal from which we rode a bus to Barranquilla, a dangerous, dirty, stinking, ugly piece of asphalt and concrete that somehow managed to host the second biggest carnival in the world! So they claim.

    Well and it was huge!

  • 13.2.3 Parque National Natural Tayrona

    March 7, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Another main activity todo from Santa Marta is the Tayrona national park. It was cloudy and windy which at first mad us not value the beauty of the environment at first. Nonetheless, it is a very nice place (with an expensive entrance fee) at which you can camp (for free) and ride horses (I won’t do that again). You can see monkeys and all sorts of birds.

Swimming on the other side is not recommended because of the rough sea!

  • 13.3 Cartagena (again)

    March 9, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Because I didn’t get to explore Cartagena after we arrived with the sailboat, I stayed there for some nights. Luckily there was a film festival in the city for that time and you could watch movies from all over the world for free.

One of my favourites: Still Recording (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8988660/)
A documentary about the war in Syria. I can’t say much about it, you just have to see it for yourselves. (recommendation)

  • 13.5.3 Camino de la Vida

    March 13, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

Medellín governments are constantly (re-)building he infrastructure on the edge of the city. So came out a half art, half mobility project called the “Walk of Life”, hence the title of this post.
It is a very beautiful trail that can be done by foot or with a bike and it reaches from one cable car top-station to another. The view is gorgeous and the art exhibited in the gardens along the walk involve sculptures, benches, ground patterns and other installations. Highly recommend this activity.

  • 13.5.4 Guatapé

    March 17, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

One of the must visit spots from Medellín is “Guatapé”, just because it is such a nice region, located only two hours away in the mountains.

The region has a canyon type of structure, but as the river(s) have been staunched, it is a lake filled environment where everything is connected to everything else in some way by a waterway. Super cool.

And in th middle of it, a big natural rock, as you can see in the last two pictures. I guess what ... stay tuned for that.

  • 13.5.5 Piedra del Peñol

    March 17, 2019 in Colombia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Lonely in the middle of nowhere stands this huge bolder of a rock. Being one of the most visited attractions in the region, Piedra del Peñol has become a symbol for Guatapé and the lake region.

A visit is totally a must do, as it is affordable at 6$ and the “hike” up there is a nice little challenge, or rather workout.Read more
