Bitz256Our flight from Houston left late as the airport was giving priority to flights heading north (or so we were told by the plane captain). We missed our connecting flight here in Panama but, by the time we had landed, the airline had already booked us on another flight 3 hours later. We met couple from from Kentucky who had also missed their connecting flight and had supper and visited with them. Time went by quickly and we enjoyed getting to know them.

Bitz256Very nice, clean and elegant hotel. Our room faces onto a small courtyard with a fountain. We open the window and enjoy the sound of the fountain running (no bugs :-)!!! ).

Field Service with Vitarte congregation

Spent the morning with the Vitarte Congregation (Triunfo # 197 (Jr) Esquina con Av. Industrial
Ate Vitarte-LIMA 03, DPTO. LIMA) in Field Service. I worked with an older brother (José Cortez) and Valerie worked with his wife. After field service we enjoyed the hospitality (food, entertainment and association) with the brothers at their Kingdom Hall. There were so many there that the congregation had set up tables in the KH parking lot for most of the congregation while we were inside.Les mer

Leaving Lima for Pto Maldonado

Brothers and sisters were waiting to greet all of us leaving Lima today. As we unloaded the taxi we realized that we had left one suitcase in the room back at the hotel. Fortunately we had left early and the brothers arranged to have delivered to the airport with the next group of friends heading to the airport.
Everything worked out well and the friends really out did themselves every day and in every way. We will miss them.

Arrived at our accommodations about 3pm. After lunch we went to our cabin and unpacked. Went for a walk in the jungle about 5pm and then a river tour at 7pm, supper and bed when we returned. It was wonderful laying in bed listening to the insects and animals.Les mer

Had an easy/late morning. Woke up to the sounds of insect and different animals than we were listening to last night. Nice breakfast in the "Casa Grande" (big house) and then arranged pictures and got caught up on "stuff".

It rained a bit this morning while we were in the Casa Grande (loved it). And then the sun came out again :-)!

This afternoon we will do a canopy hike. We will climb up ?meters into the top of the forest and then walk across bridges in the tree tops.

It rained lightly last night with distant lightning and thunder.

Today we travel to Cusco. We will leave Inkaterra at 10:30am and take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. We will have a short (15 minute) look at a butterfly park and then head to the airport for our short 1:30pm flight to Cusco.Les mer

As often happens in these countries , we were steadily converged on by ones wanting to sell us everything from gum to art and clothing (some were quite beautiful). Other than a protest rally over top government corruption and concern for their pensions it quieter this morning than last night. Our hotel room is on the second floor and faces onto one of the main streets so is very noisy at night (Peru can be even noisier than Mexico).

We found out that it is actually prohibited for vendors to try to approach and try to sell us things while we are in the park. We didn't know that until after Valerie had purchased a small painting from a fellow who told us he painted the pictures himself. The interesting thing was that the signatures on the paintings were not all the same.Les mer
