• Fan Palm Creek, Daintree

Venturing further north towards the infamous Daintree
Where ancient rainforests meet the coral reef and sea.
Over the crocodile infested river by ferry we did sway
Deep inside dense green forests for our off grid stay.

An authentic Queensland home oozing with charm
Running creek edged with hundreds of Fan-palms.
Darkness descended & fireflies flickered and poised
The cicadas and frogs chorus a crescendoing noise .

Boardwalks followed under thick vines that are twisted
Understand why this ecosystem is world heritage listed.
An opportunity through it’s canopy we could zip
Hanging via a steel line and onto canvas we grip.

Interesting aspect into a bird’s world we peek
Exhilarating to fly over gushing flooded creeks.
Thrilling to experience and we definitely enjoyed
Glad the area is conserved never to be destroyed.

To see endangered Cassowaries is luck, not tricks
Were privileged to spy a proud Dad with two chicks.
Nonchalantly walking down the middle of the road
Then ducking into undergrowth their natural abode.

The rain swelled river, we cruised by fishing boat
As another squall engulfed us, glad of a raincoat.
When the sun finally shone it felt more like a dream
A few fish escaped, landing only one small bream.
