Arrived in Birmingham as the Commonwealth Games start
Time to collect sister, hubby and hire car before we depart
On a U.K. road trip popular now for a staycation
Discovering natural wonders of this British nation.

Up the busy M6 to Cumbrias Penrith our first stop
To appreciate the Lake District’s beautiful backdrop
Of dry stone walls segmenting lush greenery
Pink coloured fireweed brightening the scenery.

Mono-chromed cows, homes, crows and sheep
Amongst dark grey slate in ravines that run deep.
Ripples on lake surfaces reflecting blue
Parking to enjoy it, limited and too few.

Drove the twisting trek known as Honiston Pass
Glimpsing numerous waters from hillsides of grass.
