4 weeks for the price of 1 was the deal we made
At the sumptuous Reef House on the esplanade.
Colonial white buildings and palms of green
Waterfall pools with recliners make life serene.

It’s winter yet sunny and 25 degrees
Cooled by a constant blustery breeze.
The smell of melaleuca blossom fills the air
Brush turkeys & curlews run around in pairs.

With this seaside living we aim to stay trim
Yoga, beach walks, cycling and daily swim.
Offset by complimentary sorbets enjoyed in the spa
Then tasty free cocktails @ five in the Brigadiers Bar.

It’s over 32 years since we resided up here
Our first Australian memories we hold dear.
Looked up our old pals to catch up again
Our families raised apart yet feels the same.

So many changes so familiar things we seek
Visiting the crocodile farm at Hartley’s Creek.
Multiple crocs sunning themselves on the banks
Thousands of little ones squirm in nursery tanks.

Took the iconic rail trip up the Range to Kuranda
An engineering marvel that the tracks can meander.
Eclectic markets visited and the Baron Falls viewed
Rainforest boardwalks under an array of green hues.

Cattana Wetlands & Crystal Cascades we also did explore
Freshwater and Centenary Lakes plus where we lived before.
Award winning Botanical Gardens so cool to wander around
Towering tropical trees and heliconia flowers hanging down.

Chris had to choose a day to fulfil his wish
For a trip out to the reef and deep sea fish.
Red Emperor and Trevallies caught on his line
Fried, grilled or sashimi they tasted mighty fine.

I occasionally feel guilty how we’re living our life
Whilst many suffer during the worlds current strife.
Yet life is a single chance and we’ve still so much to see
Having worked hard to attain our dream of travelling free.Read more
