• Mount Mabu and all the marvellous mud.

    Jun 14–17, 2025 in Mozambique ☁️ 23 °C

We can categorically say that we have thoroughly tested ALL of the equipment that Skyla has on board. Happily, the jack, puncture repair kit, compressor, tow rope, winch, max tracks, shovel, and walkie-talkies proved invaluable as we negotiated our way from the Lugela District to the base of Mabu. The route had been blessed with plentiful rainfall for days before us leaving, and the drizzle contained on the day we left. Dirt roads + rain = a marvellous mud mosh pit of fun and 16 hours of opportunities to get unstuck and help out the other car we were travelling with to pull through. Oh how well we all slept, finally arriving at 4:30 am, originally assuming the entire trip would have taken a mere three hours.

David and Dan studied together at UCT and had a fabulous time reconnecting. Dan is part of the Justicia Ambiental team that runs various projects at Mount Mabu, this time around they will be building two additional classrooms at the local school and upskilling the farmers on various ways to further make use of the crops that grow so abundantly in this area. It was such a pleasure to assist them to get some needed equipment to the site and mud mosh with them. Wishing you great success as your building project progresses.

David was man down with Giardia for a few days, so alas, rest and recuperation took precedence over exploration. Thankfully we had a healthy supply of Flagyl and The Naked Botanist was back to his usual antics as we left Mabu to drive to Malawi.
