    Another climb in Pisaq

    17. mars 2023, Peru

    Alfredo started our morning with a visit to Christo Blanco, a beautiful gift from the Palestinians that is perched high above Cusco, over looking the square. From here we can see just how wide spread the city of 1 million people is. From there we drove to Pisaq, We stopped on the opposite side first where we could see across the valley our destination for the today. The ruin city of Inti Huatana. Time for another hike! This city is bigger than Machu Picchu, and we climbed, hiked and explored all of it. With an extra expansive terrace, storage sheds, clear king/queen housing, and a mountain side with over 3000 tombs, this city was well worth the climb and effort to get to it. The pinnacle is the lookout towers at the very top of the mountain. The views of the valley are just beautiful too.Les mer

    Last day touring Cusco

    Today started at the original "border" crossing, Portada de Rumiqolqa. The control for those entering the sacred valley. Anyone entering the area had to pass through here. There's also a water canal running across the top of these massive walls to move water across the area. We then moved onto Pikillaqta, a fortified city that is an example of pre Inka (800 bc) urban planning. This massive city was home to 10,000 people.
    Our final ruins is the sacred water temple in Tipon. This beautiful setting showed us the incredible intelligence and thought that went into the creation of this special temple. Because the natural spring supplied an endless fresh water supply, this place was built around it as a temple to the god of water. So much significance in how this fountain was constructed. To finish our last tour with Alfredo, we asked him to take us to a local place for a traditional lunch, ( but NO guinea pig!) This family treated us to an amazing trout dish! We said our last good night to the beautiful square with dinner at the oldest restaurant here. Is it really time to leave Cusco!    Les mer

    Last few to Remember

    Our home for these 8 days was charming, and we'll remember how sweet Carmen was every morning. So many memories and so much history to absorb. We won't miss the horn honking though 🤪

    All aboard! So much excitement boarding ... unpacking knowing it's for 18 days... hallelujah!!! The ship is so shiny and polished! The highlight for sure though is a quiet cabin with a luxurious bed! It s going to be a great cruise!Les mer

    Lima Peru

    One more day in Peru. What a beautiful city Lima is. Such an interesting combination of old and new all in this big city. 27 kms of what's known as "the green coast" for its lush sea wall, also place of "Parque de Amour". A tribute to the mayors young wife. Another pre Inca (800bc) site, 18 Hectares! in the middle of the city! The very first known creation of aqueducts. Driving through modern city, to center town where so much beautiful baroque architecture is still visible and protected. Olive trees and original equipment used to press them to harvest the olive oil. Finally a visit to St.Franciscan monastery,with so much symbolism and unbelievable history. We went underground, to the ancient crypts where over 1600 burials were discovered! Welcomed back onboard by the captain at our bus 😂Les mer

    Flavours of Guayaquil

    We went into town today to tour their local market. The produce is so beautiful because of where it is grown in the highlands. Look at the size of this avocado! Flowers, fish and eww the meat. We then were treated to a cooking demonstration and a beautiful Ecuadorian lunch. We were just as interesting to them as their market was to us. There are few tourists coming through here.Les mer

    Around Guayaquil Ecuador

    We visited a cacao museum, learning about the progression of how this top commodity was traded. From natives, to pirates and wealthy farmers. "White City", is a beautiful cemetery founded in 1823, and grown to 15 hectares. Presidents, famous historians, but also locals are resting here. They believed the more art and creativity that went into their tombs and mausoleum's the better chance they had of reaching an after life. Many famous artists were hired to work here. A funny and massive monkey statue is a tribute to a local famous children's book.Les mer

    Rest Day in Guayaquil

    We were happy to stay on board today, it was a rainy day. Good spa morning and a movie in the afternoon. We watched the cargo loading for a while before it was time to sail away. There is no shortage of delicious food and drinks. Beautiful canapés can be delivered to the room daily for happy hour! Asian dinner tonight, I've never seen a selection of different chopsticks offered to choose from.Les mer

    Manta Equador

    Manta, the largest exporter of tuna and the origin of the "Panama" hat. This young girl showed us how they meticulously weave fibers from large leaves into these hats. It's a dying art though because the younger generations don't want to continue as it's very hard on their backs. We visited an archeological site, but we were spoiled by the ones in Peru.Les mer

    The Panama Canal

    The early fanfare was exciting. Everyone up at the crack of dawn to see us enter the Panamá line up. It was a really interesting morning, with commentary guiding us through this feat of engineering. It's amazing how tight a fit it is! It was so funny in the afternoon though, with the incredible heat, most were just watching from the pool 😂 The day was capped off with a celebratory "bubbly bar", customize your champagne!Les mer

    Roatan Reef

    Tendered today at Roatan, Honduras. The island is 35 x2 miles. Kayaked and snorkeled amongst the beautiful coral and colorful fish. Lunch with friends David & Doris. Surprise! Pop up Wine Bar.. flights and chaceuterie! Dinner tonight at Jacques.. ( French, ooh la la) 😝... going to roll us home 🤦🏻‍♀️Les mer

    Skipping Guatamala

    The hottest of all destinations, and not much of interest for us, so a leisure room service breakfast and taking advantage of a quiet pool was in order.     Cave Tubing in Belize

    What a great new experience. We hiked up the river to tube down it through a cave. The beautiful formations are spectacular. Paul showed us around Belize city before and after the tubing. We only did 1 of 9 caves, so I guess we'll have to come back.Les mer

    Bacalar, What a find!

    We drove an hour inland, to this beautiful gem. A well kept secret, little town with a big surprise! Bacalar lake is the fresh water " lagoon of 7 colours". It is quickly growing to a hot little tourist destination. Unbelievable beauty and, shallow clear waters. Originally founded in 1700's by pirates that learned the secret links between 3 of these lagoons that eventually tie to the ocean. Remnants of their fort are still directly in line with one of the passages. It was a great day on a pontoon, and meeting Margi and Jorge.Les mer

    Underwater Adventure

    It's not scuba diving, but maybe as close as we'll come to it? What a freaky experience, going 15 ft down on these scooters with giant "helmets" to breathe in. We saw some pretty fish, held starfish and stingray. Cozumel is so bustling, and we loved being back in a Mexico City. (Underwater Scooter pics will have to wait until we're home )Les mer

    Last Sea Day

    All good things must come to an end. It has been an exceptional holiday filled with so many great memories and new experiences. It was a very quiet last day, last meals at our favourite spot; the terrace on the back of the ship watching the waves behind us. Saying goodbye to some very nice people we met, and crew members. We're excited to get home now and see what this new retired life will be like!?Les mer
