  • London, United Kingdom

    May 2, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Hop-on, Hop-off bus today and ticked off some serious must-see sights! Started early with coffee and a walk in Hyde Park. It was a foggy morning which was really pretty. One of our favourite spots in London. Next we headed to the city to Buckingham Palace, Wellington Arch, Westminster Abbey, Elizabeth Towers (Big Ben), The Tower of London, and the Tower Bridge. It was great to tick so many boxes and get to see so many of London's biggest attractions in one day.Read more

  • Bath, United Kingdom

    May 4, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

Visited the City of Bath, including the Roman Baths today. The entire city is a World Heritage Site consisting of very well preserved Roman religious spas from the ancient world. Thermal springs flowing beneath the city fill the baths with naturally hot water. Lisa and I also found a great private park located on the banks of the River Anon for tea and scones, as you do in country England.Read more

  • Stonehenge, United Kingdom

    May 4, 2017 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Very cool to be able to get out to the sacred site of Stonehenge today. The structure was built between 4000 and 5000 years ago and comprises numerous stones up to 9 metres tall and weighing up to 25 tons. Some of the stones have been traced to parts of western Wales, 225km away. Still to this day, the transportation, build methods, and even the purpose of Stonehenge remain unknown.Read more

  • Bruges, Belgium

    May 6, 2017 in Belgium ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

"Maybe bacon and waffles!" - Lisa Maguire anticipating her lunch.

Our first official stop for lunch in Bruges in northern Belgium, which is one of Europe's best preserved medieval cities. It was a little stressful, being our first stop and our first experience with the language barrier. We had a walk around Burg Square and the surrounds and had waffles and beer for lunch. Then we were back on the coach bound for The Netherlands!Read more

  • Amsterdam, The Netherlands

    May 6, 2017 in the Netherlands ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

The Netherlands is a low-lying country with approximately 25 per cent of its area below sea level. Netherlands actually means 'the lowlands'. We arrived in Amsterdam in the late afternoon, checked in to our hotel, and then headed in to the centre for a some free time, dinner, and to check out the Red Light District and some "cafés" (wink, wink...).Read more

  • Berlin, Germany

    May 8, 2017 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 5 °C

Interesting place. A walking tour with a local guide took us to Alexander Platz, the Reichstag building, the Berlin Cathedral, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Check Point Charlie, and the Berlin Wall. With the exception of the historic ones, the buildings were so stark and austere, even the recently built ones. A visit to the top of the Fernsehturm television tower highlighted the obvious difference between life on either side of the former Berlin wall.Read more

  • Berlin, Germany

    May 9, 2017 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Visit to Hofbrau Muchen beer haus.
Waiter: "What can I get you?"
    Chris: "Dark beer please"
    Waiter: "Yah, half or litre?"
Chris: Ah, just a half thanks.
    Waiter: "And you madam?"
    Lisa: "Red wine please."
Waiter: "Yah, glass, half, or litre?"
Lisa: - pauses - "ah... just a glass"
Chris: - sigh of relief -

Despite the photo, Lisa decided it was 'not-right' to drink wine in a German beer hall, so she promptly finished her wine and ordered a beer :) Lisa's is still trying to hunt down the HB dark beer in Australia! ;)

  • Dresden, Germany

    May 10, 2017 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Beautiful city! All the buildings look very old but are actually relatively new after being rebuilt to look like the originals which were destroyed during the war. The entire city was essentially flattened and has now been completely rebuilt.Read more

  • Prague, Czech Republic

    May 11, 2017 in Czech Republic ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

The picturesque capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, was one of the highlights of the tour. We spent two nights here with and visited the Charles Bridge Towers, the Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock Tower, and Prague Castle. We also enjoyed a river cruise, some great views from the top of the stairs at Letenské sady, and stumbled across the John Lennon Wall after getting lost while trying to find somewhere for dinner :)Read more

  • Vienna, Austria

    May 12, 2017 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

One of our favourite stops of the tour, Vienna! Known as the home of classical music with Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert among the many prodigies that worked in the city. We arrived in the afternoon and had a walking tour with the best local guide of the entire tour, Kaspar. We visited Belvedere Gardens with sprawling views across the city, the Vienna Parliament building and City Hall, St Stephen's Cathedral, and finished with dinner in Zwölf-Apostelkeller, a 14th century restaurant! Would love to come back and spend some more time exploring this beautiful city!Read more

  • Venice, Italy

    May 13, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

No trip to Europe would be complete without a visit to Venice and a ride on gondola. We spent the morning exploring the streets, alley ways, and piazzas, walked across the Rialto Bridge on the way to St Mark's Square and Basilica and visited the Bridge of Sighs. Next on the list was the essential gondola ride through the canals and along the Grand Canal for a different view of the city. After grabbing a quick coffee we took a cruise out to the island of Murano, where we saw a glass making demonstration. Then back on the boat and out to the island of Burano, famous for colourful houses and quality lace. Venice was, without a doubt, a very memorable part of our trip.Read more

Second half of a very busy day in Rome! So much to see, so much walking! This afternoon was spent taking a guided tour of the Vatican City, the smallest city in the world. Highlights included the museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St Peter's Basilica. It is no wonder the artworks in this city are so renowned, the detail is incredible!Read more

  • Florence, Italy

    May 18, 2017 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Today we drove through the picturesque Tuscan countryside and spent the afternoon in the beautiful Italian city of Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance.
