Dry mostly warm day defeated gloomy forecasts. The morning until Delft spent in the company of fellow Brits, Andy and Jen.

Walked through a carnival atmosphere in Voorsburg where many vintage cars and motorcycles were on display.

Pressed on to Leiden where we lucky enough to be able to explore two working windmills - free on national mill day.

B&B is self catering in a huge garden house. Thai for tea!Read more

Stop 3 : Hoorn

Tha day started with a fascinating tour of our hosts' house, originally mid 19th century, now restored to its former glory (or better).

Derk shows Julia the top floor. Derk shows Julia his bedroom. Derk shows Julia the garden. Derk shows Julia the repointing on the front walls. (I was interested too but also taking many photos). We learned much about Haarlem's rich history.

5 hours cycling to Hoorn involving two ferry crossings (thankfully both running today).

Great pub meal. I had a bucket of mussels.

Our hotel is comfortable but Vrienden op der Fiets is hard to beat.Read more

Train to Enkhuizen. The most of the day at the Zuiderzee museum. Interesting and educational (again).

Stop 6 : Texel

Home of the famous Texel sheep.

Early start and a smooth ride to Den Helder with mostly tail winds.

Ferry busy with walkers and cyclists - there is a whole deck for bicycles.
Warm and dry.

Texel sheep are very close until you try to take their photo when shyness kicks in.Read more

Rotterdam to Hull

Wow factor in Julianadorp was the great breakfast and a good chat with our hosts Albert and Ella who have travelled extensively.

Made the train trip to Rotterdam despite changes to schedules due to works.

Made it to europoort despite abandoning nodes for navigation. Smooth ferry crossing and made our reserved train despite a long delay in docking.Read more
