      Uvala Lapad

      June 15, 2022 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Luka Dubrovnik Customs to Uvala Lapad. After clearing in, 27 minutes later we were on our way to drop anchor. An easy anchorage in the dark and time to go to bed and not ask who is at the helm station. A wonderful place to stock up with supplies of food after a quick 🏃‍♂️ !

Kevin of course found a kitty cat 🐈‍⬛

Game of Thrones Ruined by Tourists

      September 30, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

So we took a scenic walk to the Old Town area where the popular Game of Thrones was filmed. I’ve only seen about 5 minutes of it but this walled ancient city was an apt setting for a film. It was Saturday and thronging with tourists so we exited away as soon as we could and landed on a small cafe Lady Pi Pi. Check her out!!!! She’s the immodest type of gal obviously. They would only serve us drinks as it was 11:30 and the staff were “on break” (another coffee please) but the the waiter said, ok now you can order! This was authentic Croatian cafe style and we had lovely simple plates of real food: a beet burger, feta cheese, olives and potatoes and Betsy had pickled sardines. And that bread basket!!! Here is a sample of the Sobes, alleyways, greenery and more from our slice of life moment sans that movie famous spots. We had to laugh at the tourists lugging up many steps suitcases to their Sobes. You have to be able to walk plus navigate stairs here in a big way!Read more

      Flowers Dubrovnik Market

      September 30, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Again, everyone buys flowers at the farmers market. They are affordable and diverse. Look at the Gladiolas look at the lilies and you’ll see a big arrangement that’s probably 20 inches long for €20.

      Farmers Market Dubrovnik

      September 29, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

This is as real as it gets… the farmers market today was huge with many vendors - all of which spoke no English. As a Food Activist and the mother of a market farmer, I delighted in this experience beyond words. How I wish I could have bought one of each and made a meal. And what a feast it would be with this large selection! The videos and photos tell it all. I’d love to know what you see and hear and your impressions.Read more

      Abschied von Kroatien

      May 3, 2022 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Was uns gefehlt hat?

      Dubrovnik Croatia Sunset Beach

      September 28, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

We landed here for a walk and this stunning sunset but what we liked most was that access to the swimming was free and available to all. No private or restricted beaches. The path we walked went around tip of the island and there are high end mansions lining the path with magical doors and stairways. But the blooming flowers, warm salty evening air and changing sunlight made for a rare evening for us. Where we live is such a different landscape. Look for the photo with the couple reading!!!! Enroute today we went through the checkpoint into
Bosnia and spent a little time exploring there. I took photos coming and going of the border patrol guards. We had to show passports

      Croaita

      August 10, 2023 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Croatia 28th July to Aug 10th.
You don’t have to read all this it’s mainly for mum and dad.
Sorry bare w me as I catch up on all my penguin posts. Began Croatia in Dubrovnik and also celebrated my birthday there!! The beaches in Dubrovnik have been my favourite so far, the water was so so clear and most of the entry points were along the rocks with ladders to get down. Everything was hilly so getting home always involved climbing 300 steep steps. we visited the old town which was beautiful and we enjoyed just taking our time strolling through the streets. Went to a club for my birthday inside an old castle that was a real treat!! Next leg of the trip was Makarska which we thought was just a random town but turned out to be kinda the Croatian Gold Coast equivalent, the beaches were absolutely PACKED with Croatian tourists and there were resorts, casinos the works. We walked to a secluded beach called Noogle beach (also packed) which included a nudey beach ;) highlight of the trip so far. Next up on our agenda was Split, definitky the most touristy of the Croatian destinations. The prices were crazy and we spent our two days there exploring the old town and eating fast food; the only thing we could afford. Had dinner with Maddie and Eva, two girls we know from Melbourne which was lovely! Bussed to Zagreb (capitol) for our final stop. It was very much a different vibe than the Dalmatian coast but so beautiful in its own way. We were staying right by the centre square. Did some touristy shopping and visited the many many museums Zagreb has to show like the museum of broken relationships, the museum of 80’s Yugoslavia and the cannabis museum(which we sadly missed). Celebrated Rosie’s birthday while in Zagreb and took her to a bakery cafe that really reminded me of Melbourne and then sat in our favourite park to relax. Croatia was a really special experience and probably my favourite country so far❤️❤️Read more

      October 8, 2022 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C
