    Fort Williams

    After looking at the abandoned Fort on both sides, looking at more wood looking rocks and making everyone wait on us, we checked out an abandoned powerhouse. It supplied power to the fort, but was set 1/4 mile inland to keep it safe. As we climbed on top of the building and walked around we could see blacktop near the roof. It looked like it used to be a parking lot or something but we were too hungry to spend too much time solving the puzzle. Mystery parking lot if anyone wants to solve it... Talon took a sweet pic of us. (I think Doug looks 20 in this pic) We were sitting on a cool tree.Leia mais

    New Hampshire, Maine State Lines

    We were going through road construction, it was raining, and we had to use the bathroom, except because of the construction, the bathrooms were out of order. So, port-a-pots, a run through the rain & mud, and a make up Maine state line sign. Such an enjoyable stop... That was also probably the toughest road we traveled. Right Ho, westward we go!Leia mais

    Honeymoon Covered Bridge

    This bridge, often called the honeymoon covered bridge is in Jackson, NH. We stopped in the way to our Airbnb in Vermont. Still raining, this stop didn't last long but it's a beautiful covered bridge.

    We definitely missed the fall foliage, it started turning as we were leaving New England, but seeing the mist/fog over the trees was beautiful in it's own right.    Leia mais

    Mtn. Biking!!!

    We've been looking forward to this. We got there, got out bikes and went to find the trails we should take. After deciding to do the Pump Track to get a feel for the bikes, poor Dad fell off the bridge, we decided on our route and took off. After awhile we realized that the 'up the hills' were way more work than we had thought. I think most everyone just walked their bike up. The downs were fun, but not enough of them!!! Out of shape wimps we were! At one point Doug decided to have Dad take the easier route and we would meet up with him. I asked Doug is he was sure, he said, "If I'm this work out and out of breath, how do you think your dad feels, he's almost 20 years older than me!" I think Dad agreed to that sentiment so we split up, but eventually came back together. One word to describe those trails, 'confusion'! We jumped on and off so many trails, we got turned around.     Mtn. Biking Dud

    Oh, it was fun. But, NOT at all what we were thinking it would be like. FAILURE for Audria!!! I should have checked into it further. I googled 'lift assisted downhill mountain biking' that's what we do in Telluride. There WAS a lift, it closed the weekend before... After 3hrs everyone but Talon was done for. We ate lunch at the bike rental place and Talon begged for just us to go on a short trail and do the Pump Track again. Shaking my bowed head, I chanted, "I love my son, I love my son, I love my son." It sorta worked, I protestingly went again, had fun and said, "Stick a fork in me, I'm done!" We turned our bikes in 2 hours early and went back to the condo. Supper, showers, coffee and games, can you see the exhaustion written on our faces? Rachel doesn't count...she slept in!

    BTW: Kudos to my youngest, that tough little guy was the last to start walking his bike up the hills. He may be slow going, but he didn't quit.    Leia mais

    Mt. Washington Cog Train

    The Mt. Washington Cog Train is the second steepest rack railway in the world with an average grade of over 25% and a maximum grade of 37.41%. The railway is around 3 miles long. The train goes up at almost 3 mph and down at 4.5 mph. We decided to take the steam train instead of the diesel, gives it a more authentic feel.     Freezing on Mt. Washington

    We were told on the website to dress warm because it could be cold at the top. They were right! It was 62° at the bottom and 50° with 34.5mph winds and 63mph wind gusts at the top. In other words, cold! The brake man told us that it was expected to get worse later in the day. We stayed at the summit for around an hour and drank coffee and hot chocolate to help warm up. Coming down was a little more nerve wracking. Especially when we were told that the steam engine was a little too small for the weight of the car.Leia mais

    Right next door to the trading company was this antique shop. There so many little antique places in there Northeast, but Rachel and I resisted making everyone stop, but I couldn't resist checking this one out, it was so neat. Their process were really reasonable, we just had too many bodies to buy anything...Leia mais

    Museum of Everyday Life

    I found this unusual stop online in my research. It really is a museum of everyday life. It's weird, cool, obscure and completely worth the stop. They had displays on hair, mirrors, scissors, tooth brushes, paper clips, keys, clocks, dust bunnies, dirt, etc. Did you know that there is a park in NYC that is only available to tenants of the surrounding apartments, and that they keep it locked and change the unreproducible key every year? I didn't either, but now we all know!Leia mais
