    Making my way to Cairns

Up to Nanango for some nice peanuts to go with the cheese and off I go on the back roads to Cairns. The back roads are so much quieter and less stressful. Sadly the farms were really dry right up to Charters Towers where they coped the bottom end of the cyclone and what a difference. The country changes every few hundred kms fascinating. Arrived and pulled up just south of cairns to my washing but Murphy watching so it’s raining. Ah well we’ll see what tomorrow brings!! A couple of days before Richard arrives.

  • Brisbane

Spent time in Brisbane getting up dates done to the truck. Went to the RV show in Brisbane for shits and giggles ( well really I got free tickets) so why not!! Saw a two story caravan for hell’s sakes !! I supposed they had to go in some direction. Spent the weekends out and about the country side which was the nice side of Brisbane. Bought some beautiful cheese at Kenilworth for Richard and my trip north.

  • But wait there's more

Most of the way I took was on the western side of the range so everything is very very dry until I went slightly east by about 20k but onto the eastern side of the range,a place called Dorrigo, and the change is not comprendable. They are as green as green, grass to burn , a lot of dairy farms. Such a relief after seeing so many farms in such a bad state. All this in such a small area!! The trees in the last range I crossed into Qld were so tall something like 30/40m maybe even taller amazing !! The roads were sealed but so rough and uneven I was averaging about 20 to 30k an hour and meeting logging trucks and that’s why the roads are stuffed. Would do it again in a heartbeat it’s so beautiful!!!

  • More photo's going north up the divide

    What an amazing trip!!

  • Up the great divide

Stayed a night here after my day racing around my panorama. Now I headed into the great dividing range and zigzag my way north. Where I started in the divide is called the blue mountains. The drive all the way to Qld was unbelievable!! From steep hills to open farm land and meandering along really tight water coarses. Every day has got colder and most nights below zero so only one night in each place and a promise to my self I am heading north!!! Well I am in Qld now at a place called Allora, just south of Ipswich. I think I am still going to have to head north yet!! I have a few things to get done in Brisbane but will be looking for a nice warm beach up north and go fishing 🎣.

  • Up to Orange and on to Bathurst

Made my way to Orange to pick up a parcel from WA. Then on to Bathurst to race around mount Panorama!!!! I am not sure about the time trials but as you can see I got pole position. The rest is on video and wow I think I did real good !!! The country between Orange and Bathurst really changed from generally flat to quite hilly and I didn’t think we were climbing but the truck was down in her gears and when I looked at the alter meter we were climbing quite fast, very different for Australia!!! The top of my panorama is 900m. Will head up to Brisbane along the great dividing range if I can stand the cold. I getting old you know!!!

  • Starting my back up through NSW

    Finally on the road again!!
Heading up through NSW, a bit further east than where we came down , nearer to the great dividing range. It’s all very flat and the further north I got the dryer it becomes. Stop for a coffee in a little town called Urana , beautiful place, but they told me they had 50mm of rain 2 weeks ago and that’s all they have had for 12 months. Most of the farmers didn’t get a harvest last year and the out look for this year is not good. The lake in Urana is their ski lake!! Also went through a town called Ariah Park once again beautiful.

  • On my way back to the Murray

Made my way through some little towns and back onto the Murray River. Did some fishing ( no fish 🐠 in the Murray) and Frank and Phil caught up with me again for a few days which included a cheese board snack for my birthday!!

  • Raspberry hill

As our crew now had to go there separate ways I traveled up to raspberry hill. 1600m high it was colder but snow was on it’s way so decided to stay and enjoy. Well the snow didn’t come but it did freeze including my arse, my water but worse of all my diesel so instead of leaving that cold hole early in a nice warm cab I had to wait until noon to get the truck started!!!

  • Still in the Victorian high country

We are a lot higher where we are now and it’s a bloody site colder!!! It snowed a couple of days before we got here but we have had beautiful weather so far. Kiwi weather beautiful days and freezing cold nights!!! A frost this morning ( photo) no venison yet but not from the lack of trying. Very very quiet and peaceful the noisiest things are our solar panels!! Must go for a walk but between keeping the fire going and shifting solar panels and relaxing 😎 the days just disappear 😁😁もっと詳しく

  • Victorian high country

Have had about 10 days or so up in the the high lands. Very scenic indeed but cold. Miss the part Tristan wanted to see because of bush fires 🔥 that are still burning up there and probably will until spring they authorities say. Still got another week to look forward to yet.

  • Swan Reach / Walker Flat

Spent some time at these two places watching paddle steamers and trying to catch a 🎣 Not much joy I afraid 😦 Meet some lovely people though and the weather was beautiful. Still very very dry!!!

  • Back on the Murray/Darling river

Sadly said good bye to Bess, Lulu and Andy on Sunday, Bess going back for the birth of her second grand child 😀 and Lulu and Andy are going back to work ( poor them ). As for me I’m going to explore the Murray/Darling a bit more before heading to the Victorian mountains to meet up with Tristan and his mum and dad to see some high country. Most of the crossings in SA over the Murray / Darling are by ferry which are available 24/7. Have seen lots of paddle steamers of all different shapes and sizes, dozens and dozens of them. Must do it one day with a group of people looks like fun!!! You can virtually go from one end to the other, 2500k. Still so very very dry here the poor buggers really need rain and a lot of it. The weather has cooled off a bit, late 20s to early 30s, much better for traveling. Traveling is a little bit harder now, I’m driver, navigator chief cook and bottle washer and da Wutts thinks it’s stinks. Not getting the usual pampering!!! Wutts and I are on the same amount of pills now so the mornings are now a ritual.

  • The Barossa

Had a fantastic week with Lulu and Andy in the Barossa. I got to do things I usually would walk past but the gang of three took me out of my comfort zone and wow 😮 what a great week we all had!!! Tried lots of wine, gin and beers and ate and ate till we could eat no more. At night we played cards and rummy (they have a lot to learn) but boy did we have some laughs!!! Sadly they are very very dry all around here as well. The Barossa valley would look amazing when it is green, ah well a good reason to come back!!😎😁😜🤪.
