Der Anfang vom Ende?

🇩🇪 Nach den ganzen Vulkanwanderungen habe ich Taupō erkundet. Hier gibt es viele heiße Quellen und Thermalparks. Einen Abend, als ich gerade bei meinem Schlafplatz gegessen habe, kam ein Mann auf mich zu. ‘Das ist jetzt vielleicht etwas komisch…’, fängt er an. ‘Aber ich bin bald ein paar Tage unterwegs und habe zwei Hunde und zwei Katzen zu Hause. Ich wohne fünf Minuten von hier und wollte fragen, ob du vielleicht auf sie aufpassen kannst? Ich frage hier immer Camper, und es hat bis jetzt gut geklappt.’ Typisch Kiwi, einfach fremde Leute anzusprechen und ihnen sein ganzes Haus anzubieten. Zum Glück bin ich auf eine Haussitterin getroffen, denn ich würde so etwas nicht zum ersten Mal machen. Also habe ich es gemacht und mir für ein paar Tage den Luxus eines Hauses und die Gesellschaft von Haustieren gegönnt. Und das habe ich auch gebraucht, denn nach elf Wochen Reisen bin ich froh, nicht nachdenken zu müssen, wo ich denn heute Nacht schlafen oder wo die nächste Dusche ist.

Bald muss ich das auch nicht mehr, denn ich fange wieder an zu arbeiten; diesmal geht es ums Kiwis pflücken. Ich arbeite in der ‘Kiwihauptstadt’ Te Puke, aber jetzt gerade bin ich etwas nördlicher, in Papamoa. Wann das Arbeiten anfängt, weiß ich noch nicht genau. Ich warte auf die Nachricht (eigentlich war Sonntag geplant). Bis dahin genieße ich es hier am Strand :)

🇬🇧 After all the volcano hikes, I explored Taupō. There are many hot springs and thermal parks here. One evening, as I was having dinner at my campsite, a man approached me. "This might be a bit strange," he begins, "but I'll be away for a few days and have two dogs and two cats at home. I live five minutes from here and wanted to ask if you could maybe look after them? I always ask campers here, and it has worked well so far." Typical Kiwi, just approaching strangers and offering them his entire house. Fortunately, I met a house sitter, as I wouldn't do something like this for the first time. So, I did it and treated myself to the luxury of a house and the company of pets for a few days. And I needed that because after eleven weeks of traveling, I'm glad not to have to think about where I'll sleep tonight or where the next shower is.

Soon, I won't have to worry about that anymore because I'm starting to work again; this time it's picking kiwis. I work in the 'Kiwifruit capital' Te Puke, but right now I'm a bit further north, in Papamoa. I don't know exactly when work will start. I'm waiting for the message (originally planned for Sunday). Until then, I'm enjoying it here on the beach :)Read more
