    Scoping out Sarlat

    September 11, 2019 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

What a great time we had today scoping out Sarlat. First we slept in which was much needed. We found out that it was "Market" day in Sarlat. We began the day with petite dejeuner at a sidewalk cafe. We wandered the streets and avenues, looking for deals. Laurie bought cheese and olives. Kimberly was looking for art and a ring.
Our challenge was to explore the region for a chateau that was built into a cliff, much like the anasazi in the southwest United States. Then we went on a local Chateau "search." And we found them. Surprise after surprise.
We spent the afternoon shopping after all the crowds dissapeared when the market closed down.
We made reservations at Romain, as we enjoyed the meal and ambiance the previous night.
    Looking forward to Rocamador tomorrow.

Annecy to Chateau Chillion and back

    September 9, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Drove almost 2 hours, to visit Chateau Chillion in Switzerland. When we crossed into Switzerland, we had to purchase a sticker, to be placed on the windshield. 40 euro...real shocker.
Made our way to the chateau. I was in awe of the setting. Mountains, lake and 13th century castle makes for a great time.
Interesting thing happened. I found a wallet on the ground. I opened it and found the man was Chinese. There were several tour buses, so I started asking anyone that looked oriental if they knew the man. Everyone said no. So we were standing in line to purchase tickets to go into the castle and turn in the wallet. The man in front of us told the ticket office that he had lost his wallet. You guessed it, it was his wallet. He was so relieved and thankful. He called me his hero.
We had a wonderful time touring the castle. We then drove back to Annecy where we visited "Old Town." The pictures show its beauty. We had an early dinner and went to bed early. Driving to Sarlet, France tomorrow.

    Gordes to Annecy France

    September 8, 2019 in France ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Today was quite an adventure. First, our hotel was wonderful.
Second, walking around Gordes was also wonderful.we got there before the crouds...found a close parking spot and shopped and had patisseries and watched people. As we were leaving, Kim could not find her cell phone, so we turned around and went back to where she remembered setting in on a bench...dropped Them off and tried to find a place to park. With "hope-against-hope" Linda began praying. As she finished, Linda looked up to see two smiling faces, they had the phone in hand. Short story, as Bruce was running to the spot, a Frenchman called to him, showing him Kim's phone. He said he recognized him from the picture on the phone. A miracle.
On our way to Annecy, we were in a huge traffic jam on a major toll rd. It took us 4 hrs and a few minutes to go 18 kilometers. That put us into Annecy late, a little after 9 pm.
We walked a short distance to parking and then to a restaurant where we had pizza, mussels and French fries.
Tired, fed and looking forward to tomorrow, we retired for the evening.
