    Taipei, Taiwan. Stopover

    March 26, 2017 in Taiwan ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

On my way to New Zealand I had a rather interesting stopover in Taiwan. With a disapproving face of the visaman I could eventually enter Taipei as a single woman travelling. A little bus drove us around the city for free where I did some sightseeing. My first impression of Taipei is that it's very busy and chaotic, it's a mix of dirty old buildings and historic tempels with an important religious value.Read more

  • Auckland and around

    March 27, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Arriving in 'Aotearoa', the land of the long white cloud, the humid warm air overwhelmed me instantly. The kiwi's are very friendly and easy to approach, what makes my stay in Auckland very pleasant. After a few days of relaxing I went out in Auckland, the biggest city of NZ built on 45 volcanoes. A large and cosy city ranged as the 8th most liveable city in the world.
Besides the city centre, one three hill and Mount Eden I visit the beautiful Shakespear NP.

  • Paihia & Cape Reinga

    April 3, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

My first trip with the kiwi experience bus is a fact. This bus will take me around the country, a kind of hop on, hop off system with lots of interesting stopovers.

Cape reinga, where the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman sea meets, is my first stop. The Māori believe that their spirit is travelling to Cape Reinga after they die. At this spot their spirit can say a last goodbye and take off to Polynesia, the islands of their roots.

Our first stop heading to the south is hot water beach, when you dig a hole in the beach at low tide you can make your own little hot tub.

  • About hobbits and the maori culture

    April 11, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

I thought it was always sunny in the shire, unfortunately there is cyclone coming towards us that makes it a bit wetter these days. Despite this it was nice to wander in the beautiful movie set of the lord of the rings.

Saw the haka for the first time in the tamaki maori village, very impressive. The haka is a type of ancient Māori war dance traditionally used on the battlefield, as well as when groups came together in peace. Haka are a display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity.

  • Abel tasman national park

    April 17, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

This feels like the real New Zealand, intense green mountains draw off the coastline. Kayaking on the sea with lots of seals swimming around me. This is a place where I chill out on the beach and do some hikes after a busy week with the kiwi bus.Read more

  • Lake Manihapua

    April 21, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Again a remote place situated between the ocean and a beautiful lake. What do we need more than watching the sunset drinking tasty kiwi wine? Closing the night watching a sky full of stars.

  • Wanaka

    April 25, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Autumn arrived in Wanaka, this cozy little town and lake are surrounded with yellow coloured trees and high mountain tops. I left this place with very sore legs after doing the Roys peak track, a 22 km long walk with an elevationgrade of 1230m.

  • Fiordland

    April 30, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Milford sound, also known as the valley of hundred waterfalls, is one of many fiords in Fiordland. This breathtaking place is declared as a world heritage site with cliffs up to 1200 m rising out of the dark water. I'm staying here for two days with the purpose to dive. Due to a natural phenomenon called 'deep water emergence,' deep-water animals can be seen in the shallow waters what makes it an unique place to dive. Unfortunately it was cancelled, but I got a free boat ride through Milford Sound instead.Read more

  • Deep south

    May 2, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Landscape is changing again while we're going to the most southern point of New Zealand. We drive and walk through the rain forest to visit a beautiful waterfall. Going through the Catlins was all about spotting wildlife. We where lucky to see the yellow eyed penguins beside the sea-lions and the little Hector's dolphins. This is definitely a magical birthday that ended in Dunedin with a good glass of wine and some Chinese food.Read more

  • Queenstown

    May 4, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Queenstown, aka 'the party city' of New Zealand is an expensive city located next to lake Watakipu and surrounded by mountains with a population consisting out of 1 kiwi on 15 inhabitants. Lots of partying, eating fergburgers (truly the best) and hot cookies is how I spent my time here.Read more

  • Mount Cook

    May 6, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Definitely one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. We hitchhiked through the mountains from Twizel to a little city called Aoraki situated at the foot of Mount Cook. Here it's al about hiking. The Meuller hut track brought us to a hight of 1800m, a track with an elevation gain of 1000m and 2200 steps. This is the most exhausting and at the same time the most rewarding track I did so far.Read more
