Spuds Pimba

We drove until almost 4pm today. Spuds charge $5 to stay in what is essentially a large carpark, but with flushing clean toilets!! The place is run by the Pimba community here. There is a huge enclosed area to park the van, a petrol station, and restaurant. Meals are said to be huge, but unfortunately we have Frankie. can't go in!.
We hoped they did take away food , and yes, they did! We had burgers and chips....no surprise there. The meals were enormous, and we had enough chips left to have for tea tomorrow. Not expensive either..$32 for the two meals. Well worth it. And great toilets into the bargain.Read more

1058 kms - Wow! What a day! We left early heading for the SA border hoping to get let across to head home. We got Marla and we were stopped by SA Border Police. We were granted a ‘pass through’ allowing us 72 hours to pass through SA. With this pass also came stipulations: we can not stay or stop for more than 1 hr in the towns of Coober Pedy (so we had to cancel our booking at the underground cave hotel), Ceduna or Port Augusta, we can not be around other people and have to keep to ourselves (so no staying at Mum and Dads), only 1
of us can enter a shop for essential items only, we have to wear face masks in public and the worst one yet, we have to have a COVID swab within the first 24 hrs, again at day 5 and again at day 13! We are also going to have to confirm with VIC Pol if we have to self isolate for 14 days once getting home! Safe to say it has been a long, stressful, emotional and draining day.... not the end to an amazing holiday we were hoping for... so we got a room at Spuds Roadhouse in Pimba and are looking forward to a hot shower and good nights sleep.Read more

Pimba is well into S.A. at the bottom of the road to Roxby Downs and Olympic dam. In the 253 kms to Glendambo from Coober Pedy, there is only one toilet stop, so you need a self contained caravan or a robust bladder! Glendambo has 2 fuel/food outlets, so competition means that the Cornish Pasty I had was really excellent. The BP roadhouse has won BP's coffee challenge 3 months in a row and was going for 4. But I had already brewed coffee at a roadside stop.

Stopped at Lake Hart, a glistening salt lake. Tonight at the Pimba roadhouse, donation if you use their facility's. I drove up to Woomera 6kms and had a look around, but didn't go through the rocket museum as I have done this before, but did look at the outside displays. Tomorrow to Moonta Bay.Read more
