Travel on National Penguin Awarenss Day

So this is the beginning of an adventure. What kind of adventure, we don’t even know! It’s a bucketlist item with a friend of 30 years. What’s gonna happen? We don’t know. What’s the theme of this blog? I don’t know yet. It will be determined when inspiration strikes.

This introductory chapter is the beginning of our journey. Lindsay and I agree on this, the vacation starts the minute we walk out our door into our car and start towards the airport. Come along for the ride!

I guess some context is needed. This is Lindsay‘s seventh continent (her final one). It’ll be an extremely exciting moment for her. The goal is to actually step on the continent not just see it from the ship (as many an intrepid cruiser has done). We planned this trip (with our cheerleader Michael egging us on) for a long time. We opted to pick the best week for weather and Drake passage, affording us a chance of landing. We went with one of the best cruise ships. It’s an Expedition Ship that can stay in Antarctic waters the longest time, so that she mostly makes landfall. That being said, life guarantees us nothing. We don’t know if it’ll happen. We hope it happens. We paid a lot of money to make it happen, but mostly we are embracing the anticipation. It will only be my sixth continent, so sadly not quite the celebration Lindsay will experience. I am lacking African continent so…

Today was a “repositioning” day. We completed our first leg of 3 days of travel. Calgary to Toronto. We have a 23hr layover. So, just got into the Toronto Airport Hilton for an overnight. I will visit my inlaws tomorrow and then back to airport for evening flight to Buenos Aires. Nothing exciting to report so far …

DISCLAIMER…. This is a bucketlist trip and we are both grateful for the opportunity. We chose to travel highend for both comfort and better chance at completing the adventure and if you know Lindsay, you know flying is always a special experience. Langsam geht es nun auch für die letzten nach Hause. Max hat Jonas und mich auf ein kleines BBQ in seine Hood eingeladen. Einfacher Grill, ein paar Bier und die super lieben Locals - so stellt man sich Karibik vor...
Die Laurelli (und Spezielli) haben wir am nächsten Tag an die Boje gelegt, der Hafen bereitet sich für die ARC Boote vor. Am letzten Abend kam noch Max (der Basemanager) mit seinen 2 Freunden vorbei und haben noch etwas auf dem Boot getrunken und gequatscht. Karibik ist schon nen nettes und geselliges Pflaster.

4.634 nm und 7 Wochen auf der Laurelli später gehts nun zurück.

Es ist so viel passiert, dass man vieles noch nicht verarbeitet hat und ein paar Sachen auch tief in die Erinnerung gerutscht sind - plötzlich erinnert man sich zufällig an Momente auf der Laurelli...
Es wirkt manchmal wie ein Traum der passiert ist, jetzt wo man wieder im kalten Deutschland ist. Ist es wirklich passiert?!😉

Es war ohne Frage ein sehr besonderer Trip - in vielerlei Hinsicht.Lue lisää

Mississauga Waterfront Trail

Everything here in Mississauga is pretty widespread. I needed more than an hour by bus to get to the waterfront (partly due to a road closure).
Once I arrived, I walked the waterfront trail from Lakefront Promenade park to Richard's Memorial park. The path led me through several parks and residential areas. These neighborhoods reminded me of Vancouver and Victoria since the style of the houses was very similar. I also saw many squirrels and a chipmunk.
Around noon, I stumbled upon a street festival with live music. After listening to some of the bands, I had Poutine for lunch. Then I resumed my walk along the waterfront.
The way back to the hotel took me over two hours due to another road closure. I also stopped at a shopping mall to grab a snack for dinner.Lue lisää

De erst Idruck isch grad rächt igfahre.. so viel süüberer als Grossstädt ide USA.
S esch eppe 27° gsi woni acho bin und s Wätter het mitgspielt.. jetzt hani chli Ziit d Stadt go aluege bevors am Fritig nach Cambridge (Ontario) zude Emily gaht. Freu mich mini kanadisch Familie wieder z'gseh ond ein Cousine lerni mal mach 26 Jahr känne. 😁Lue lisää

Jour 8 : En route pour Toronto

On part pour Toronto et sa région pour les 3 derniers jours de notre voyage.
Après une dernière photo souvenir avant de partir du cottage, on prend la route pendant près de 3h.
On arrive à Brampton, en périphérie de Toronto où l'on prend possession de notre Airbnb.

Hello Vancouver🇨🇦👋

Unser Kanada-Abenteuer geht weiter und wir sind planmässig in Vancouver gelandet. Der Flug ✈️ dauerte etwa 3.5 Stunden und der Landeanflug war ziemlich holprig, da das Wetter in Vancouver nicht ganz so mitspielte. Trotzdem hat ja alles geklappt👌

Wir verbrachten übrigens den ganzen Tag am Flughafen, da dies so am Günstigsten + Bequemsten für uns war 😁 Die Zeitverschiebung hat sich nun auch wieder verändert, wenn ich mich nicht täusche sind wir nun 9 Stunden (und nicht mehr 6) verschoben. Wenn ich nun also meine Posts veröffentliche, sind die meisten von euch wahrscheinlich am Aufwachen oder bereits aus den Federn 😎

Somit allen ein schönes Weekend und bis morgen mit hoffentlich ein paar schönen Bildern aus Vancouver 🤩🇨🇦

Ps: Gottseidank habe ich ein travel-kit um meinen Backpack gemacht, dies wurde beim Flug nicht sonderlich gut behandelt😕Lue lisää

Heading home!

Well today is my last day here in Canada - Ted and Karen dropped me off at the airport after an awesome 10 days with them. I am all checked in and ready for the long flight home! It’s been an amazing holiday which I am so thankful to have experienced. I have seen many amazing things, renewed friendships, made new friends, and created beautiful memories. But I’m ready to come home, reinvigorated and ready to hug loved ones - in the end there is no place like home and travel makes you appreciate this. 🏡 🇦🇺Lue lisää
