    Tag 76 Nachdurst

    Hab recht gut geschlafen und die Gewissheit nah an einer Wasserquelle zu sein, beruhigt schon sehr. Trotzdem bin ich dann mit „nur“ 2 Litern gestartet, was sich im Verlauf des Tages noch als sehr wenig herausstellen sollte.
    Die Strecke die ich mit den 2 Litern abdecken musste war wieder riesig. Auf den Wegweisern die nun recht zahlreich sind, ist noch locker genug Platz, um mal eine Wasserstelle einzuzeichnen.

    Ich frage mich wie die sich das denken dass das ganze funktioniert. Oder ob die da überhaupt nicht denken. Also die lassen den Si wie auch den E1 für über 65 km in den Bergen verlaufen, ohne dass er durch eine Stadt kommt oder eine Wasserstelle auf dem Weg liegt. Wie auch, ganz oben auf dem Berg.
    Also denken die sich dass man ja 10 Liter schleppen kann. Oder dass man jeden Morgen von und jeden Abend zu einer Unterkunft im Tal wandert?! Der durchschnittliche Wanderer könnte so dann wohl 10 km auf dem eigentlichen Wanderweg machen , bis er wieder den nächsten Abstieg nehmen muss um zum Hotel zu kommen.

    Naja, ich habe es dann so gelöst, dass ich von einer Passhöhe 250 Meter abgestiegen bin, was etwas über einen Kilometer Strecke war, um zu einer Quelle zu gelangen. Dort habe ich dann auch erstmal ausgiebig getrunken und alles aufgefüllt um dann alles wieder den Berg hochgetragen.

    Auf dem Weg habe ich wieder eine dieser alten Siedlungen gesehen, die dann wohl irgendwann aufgegeben wurde. Ein paar Häuser wurden noch bewohnt, aber zum Großteil war alles verwaist.

    Tag 75 Durst

    Hab gestern von dort wo ich kalte Pizza gekauft hab, noch eine Fanta und eine Cola mitgenommen. Jeweils ein halber Liter. Die habe ich dann später auch mit Wasser gefüllt und somit auf den Anstieg hinter der Stadt dann 3 Liter mitgeschleppt. Das war auch gut so, denn bis zum schlafplatz habe ich nichts genießbares mehr gefunden.

    Somit hatte ich heute Morgen dann noch 2 Liter. Nach dem Frühstück noch 1 1/2 L. Auf dem ewig dauernden Abstieg vom Berg zur Straße habe ich dann aber noch etwas fließendes gefunden. Dann kam erstmal eine Tankstelle mit Bar und einem Pfau der draußen rumlärmte.
    Zwei Kaffee und zwei Teilchen und das Handy an die Dose.

    Danach began die Suche nach dem Weg. Es gab ihn nicht. Ich bin trotzdem durchs Gestrüpp wo er sein sollte und es hat so lange gedauert und tat wieder derbe weh. Lustig war dann, dass ich nach den 30 Metern für die ich ca. 30 Minuten gebraucht hab, auf einer unbefestigten Straße stand. Diese endete hier an einem Stall. Auch lustig war, dass ich dann begann aus dieser Sackgasse zu klettern und oben fand ich an den Bäumen Wanderwegsmarkierungen 😄

    Highlight war, dass ich eine Flasche Bier mit aus der Stadt geschleppt hab und die dann während ich das Zelt aufbaute und mich gewaschen hab, im Wasser des Baches gekühlt wurde. Richtig schön passend kalt war der Trunk aus Bocholt dann.    Read more

    Cortona

    May 3 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

    After Arezzo we headed over to Cortona to check it out. We were driving and there was a city up on the side of the hill and I was like is that it? And it was! We were actually eating dinner here at the house this evening and were wondering if we could see where we were today and I was like wait a minute…The city we can see on the hill from here is Cortona! If you look back at the photos from yesterday in the view photo there is a light spot in the hills in the middle of the photo and that is Cortona!

    Cortona is pretty small with so many steep hills. It was nice, but not as nice as Arezzo. We enjoyed our time there and we did find a fancy Vegan restaurant and we debated sticking around for dinner, but we would have had to kill 2.5 hours and well…by the time we got done exploring the city and taking all the breaks to waste time we still had an hour until they opened so we decided to just head home. It was starting to cool off as well and we didn’t bring lots of warmer clothes as we didn’t expect to be out for dinner. We might try and go back tomorrow or Monday night, but we shall see. We have more places to check out tomorrow so if we find something else fun we might not make have time.

    Cortona ✨️

    Steil aber oho !!!!!!
    Atemberaubend dieser wunderschöne Bergort Cortona 🫶
    Wir haben einen tollen Platz an der Wallfahrtskirche Santa Margherita gefunden .
    Ruhig und sehr Zentral zur Innenstadt ........dachten wir 😆
    Tja, wir super Christen 😇 Palmsonntag 🤷🏽‍♀️ innerhalb zwanzig Minuten waren wir komplett eingeparkt. Also los mit in die Kirche 🙏 Olivenzweig wedelnd wurden wir, dann auch noch vor der Kirche die Autos ( Holly natürlich auch ) gesegnet.
    So geschafft jetzt einen Spaziergang im Regen in die Stadt ☔️ .
    Nur schlappe 150 Höhenmeter trennten uns vom Stellplatz zur Stadt 😅 Runter ging ja noch aber rauf war echt sportlich im strömenden Regen😆.
    Was soll ich sagen 🤷🏽‍♀️ es war super schön , lecker gegessen und diesen mystischen Ort auf uns wirken lassen. Toll !!!!!    Read more

    Cortona in Tuscany

    We had a beautiful drive through Tuscany to get to Cortona. They filmed parts of Under the Tuscan Sun here and you can see why. I bought beautiful hand painted ceramics from the artist herself. Later, we met an art professor from the University of Georgia as he was loading his students' art into a van. We missed their exhibition, but bought a watercolor from Adrian, one of the students. It was a painting of the church on whose steps we had just eaten lunch!Read more

    Villa in der Toskana

    Nun startet sie - die Geburtstagsparty unseres Freundes in einer alten Villa mitten in der Toskana. Mit polnischem Bier, polnischen Würstchen, polnischer Musik und polnischen Menschen. Es fühlt sich an...na? Wiel in Polen.
    Die Villa ist bestückt mit alten Möbeln, einer Wendeltreppe versteckt hinter Holztüren, einer Dienerklingel in unserem Zimmer.

    Die polnische Geburtstagsparty kulminierte in einem wundervollen italienischen Mehrgängedinner in einem ländlichen Agroturistco. Der erste Gang musste - ganz polnisch- Birra sein. Danach gab es die leckersten italienischen Speisen. Ein Bier gab das andere und die ausgelassene Stimmung kam beim jungen Koch so gut an, dass er uns -angeblich junge Leute- gleich zu einer Party einlud.
    Zurück in unserer Villa war der Alkoholpegel hoch und es kam zu einem ordentlichen Familienstreit, der fast in einer Schlägerei endete und dazu führte, dass due Hälfte der Gäste am Folgetag die Villa verließen. Schade!
    Dominik hatte es jedoch schon vorher prophezeit: Eine polnische Party auf dem Land endet eigentlich immer in einer Schlägerei!! Ojemine    Read more

    Cortona

    Spent a lazy morning with Deb, Stefano and Ernie before saying a sad farewell as they headed back to the UK. It has been so lovely having them here to share our adventures.
    We had a lovely birthday celebration dinner (another celebration!) in Montepulciano the night before. We were struggling to find an open restaurant plus one that did gluten free. Arrived at a lovely hilltop restaurant, but no bookings available. Stefano went back in for some Italian negotiations. The owner rang a few friends but no go. We were just heading up the road when we heard the owner shouting out "Australians!". He managed to squeeze us in to a couple of tables. The food was divine, and I was serenaded by the owner. You don't get that every day.
    After the UK entourage left we hopped in to the car to drive to another hilltop town of Cortona. It was lovely, but very steep. There was a poor lady trying to navigate the hill in wedges. Rookie mistake. We were very amused by the fact most of the sandwich places close down for a three hour lunch break. Isn't that your busy time of day?
    Walked past a little shop that was like a cave, where Nonna was doing wine tasting. A real authentic experience. Purchased the best limoncello, which Nonna had made herself.
    We did miss our interpreters. Graham ordered a Coke zero and ended up with a zero alcohol cocktail. We were in hysterics (except for Graham).
    We have had such a lovely time in Montepulciano - the farmstay was fabulous.    Read more

    Il grande giorno 🤩

    La nostra giornata libera inizia con una lunga passeggiata rilassante 😌 Vediamo il sole sorgere ☀️ osserviamo le colline con i boschi sempre più rossi 🍂
    Dopo una mattinata di studio, lavoro e qualche lavoretto in Tana pranziamo, andiamo a fare il riposino ed ecco che arriva la tanto attesa chiamata. Prendi la felpa, scendi dalle scale di corsa, sali in macchina e via in direzione Frantoio Landi 🚗
    Questa mattina John ha lavato gli appositi contenitori di latta con soda per togliere le rimanenze del vecchio olio senza intaccare il sapore di quello nuovo 💡 In teoria ne dovrebbe bastare uno da 30l, ma noi siamo speranzosi e ne abbiamo un’altro da 25l in macchina 😋
    Arriviamo al frantoio tesi ed eccitati 🤞🏼 La prima cosa che notiamo é il fortissimo profumo di olio d’oliva 😮 Ci guardiamo intorno e rimaniamo estasiati difronte alle mille sfumature di verde 🌈
    Ed ecco che adocchiamo i nostri cassoni ☺️John controlla accuratamente il raccolto del cliente che ci precede, perché alcuni residui delle sue olive rimarranno nella macchina e quindi nel nostro olio. ‘Vanno bene’, dice 💪🏼
    Tocca a noi - inizia la procedura:
    ❗️Svuotamento dei cassoni in un grande imbuto
    ❗️Lavaggio con acqua ed eliminazione di impurità (rametti, foglie, ecc.)
    ❗️Macinatura
    ❗️Mescolamento della pasta
    ❗️Pressatura e divisione degli scarti (semi e rispettiva acqua) dalla polpa
    ❗️Centrifuga e divisione acqua e olio
    Ci mettiamo intorno alla centrifuga, tutti gli occhi sono sul tubicino… Ecco la prima goccia di olio 🤩 È denso, torbido, di un verde intensissimo 😮 Ovviamente lo assaggiamo subito: Delicato, ma pizzica sul palato 🧐
    Riempiti i contenitori si procede con il calcolo della resa: 13,5% 💥 Torniamo verso casa con circa 35l di olio, sorridenti e soddisfatti 🥹
    Concludiamo la giornata davvero intensa brindando e mangiando bruschette con olio nuovo davanti al fuoco del camino in compagnia di un’altra coppia di amici 🔥
    Ma quanto siamo fortunati ad aver fatto parte di questa esperienza?! Siamo grati e tanto felici! ♥️
    PS: John e Sabine ci hanno regalato due litri di olio 🥰 Quante volte ripenseremo a questi giorni fantastici mangiando bruschette in giro per l’Italia 😋    Read more

    Day 25

    Olive, olive eee Pizza 🍕

    Camminata mattutina su per il monte di Casale accompagnati da tanto vento e un alba timida 💨 ma fortunati a vedere tre caprioli 🦌
    Poi ancora olive, questa volta da Ugo e Patrizia, una coppia di amici di John e Sabine 🥰 Ci siamo letteralmente arrampicati tra gli alberi per arrivare anche alle ultime olive 😉 e abbiamo finito giusto in tempo prima dell’arrivo della pioggia 🌧️
    Poi, tra un assaggio di olio e un vecchio album fotografico 📸 ci hanno raccontato la loro storia: Si sono trasferiti da Milano e Firenze qui a Cortona. Hanno comprato e deciso di ristrutturare una vera e propria rovina 😮 che ora sembra un vero e proprio castello con tanto di torre 🏰 e libreria infinita 📚 Il tutto interamente avvolto dalle foglie di vigna rosse… come i capelli di Steven… ❗️
    Pomeriggio di brutto tempo ⛈️ Occasione perfetta per lavorare, studiare e preparare l'impasto per una buona pizza secondo la ricetta di mamma Sandra 👩🏼‍🍳
    Poco prima di cena ci troviamo seduti davanti al fuoco, con un altro album fotografico sulle ginocchia 📸 Questa volta sono John e Sabine che ci raccontano la storia della ristrutturazione di Palazzo Casale, fatta interamente da John, amici e conoscenti 😯
    Veniamo interrotti dall'arrivo di altri amici, Demetrio e Arianna, che si fermano a mangiare la pizza insieme a noi 🍕
    Dopo tante nuove conoscenze, racconti e risate ci godiamo l’ultimo bicchiere di vino davanti al fuoco caldo del camino 🔥    Read more

    Olive livello pro 🥲

    Nonostante le sfide di oggi - olive verdi che si nascondono tra le foglie e ulivi vecchi tutti in pendenza - abbiamo finito di raccogliere le olive di John e Sabine 💪🏼 Che emozione 😍 e che dormita subito dopo 😴
    Momento più importante del giorno: passione parrucchiera per Isa, nuovo look per Steven 🙈 Colore? Beh, nel dubbio… ❤️🖤
