We arrive at the hotel in Venlo to find family waiting for us. So lovely to be greeted by them.

A few drinks, laughs & story telling before we all sit down for dinner.

Conversation flowed freely and I was very happy for the translation… I’m the only one that didn’t speak Dutch… 🤭

***** Camperplaats Kompas: Topp gepflegter und ruhiger Stellplatz auf einer auch bei Regen gut befahrbaren Wiese außerhalb des Ortes an einem Feldrand. Fußläufig ist die (wenig spektakuläre 🫢) Ortsmitte in gut 20 Minuten zu erreichen.

Uns gefiel der sympathische Stellplatz ausgesprochen gut. Der Platz verfügt über insgesamt 37 Plätze und besteht aus zwei durch hohe Hecken abgetrennte Wiesen. Die Anmeldung erfolgt über Barzahlung in einem Briefumschlag. Am Empfangshäuschen liegt Infomaterial aus und es gibt dort eine kostenlose Möglichkeit E-Bikes aufzuladen. Außerdem darf man sich dort pro Person ein kostenloses Frühstücksei mitnehmen. Das habe ich bisher tatsächlich noch nie gesehen 🤗. Die V+E ist sehr gut, ein Sanitärgebäude gibt es nicht.

Aktivitäten:

Um es vorweg zu nehmen: Grubbenvorst ist ein langweiliges Kaff und hat (bis auf einen wirklich hervorragenden Eissalon) wenug zu bieten. Meines Erachtens macht es deutlich mehr Sinn, die Gegend mit dem Rad statt zu Fuß zu erkunden.

Einkehrtipp:

🍨 Ijssalon Clevers in der Ortsmitte von Grubbenvorst: Es gibt rund 50 verschiedene Eissorten und jede Menge Eisbecher. Man kann sich seinen Eisbecher aber auch (was wesentlich preiswerter ist) mit vielen verschiedenen Zutaten selbst zusammenstellen. Das Eis ist außergewöhnlich gut 😋.

A relaxing start to the day before being picked up by Wim & Anita to have lunch at Leon & Eef’s.
Early afternoon we head over to see tante Annie, but not before stopping to pick up flowers.
We break tante out of rehab and head for the coffee shop for afternoon tea. Annie doesn’t speak English & I don’t speak Dutch, so if there were other conversations going on we used hand actions and a lot of laughs…. We made it work.

More food and more drinks at Wim & Anita’s before heading out to have Greek food just over the border in Germany 🇩🇪

More conversations & more laughter before we head back to the hotel - in the Netherlands 🇳🇱…. One last drink before we bid farewell to everyone. Time for some sleep & we’ll worry about packing our luggage in the morning - food coma & sleep are calling.Read more

Die erste Begegnung mit den Niederlanden findet in Venlo statt. Gleich hinter der Grenze ist es die nächste Möglichkeit für die Leute aus dem Ruhrgebiet im Ausland einzukaufen oder einfach durch die Stadt zu bummeln, am Fischstand Backfisch oder Kibbeling mit Pommes zu probieren, so wie wir. Day 19 a day with the family

It has been too long since I’ve seen these people 🥺 the last time was supposed to be 2020😭 but today that all changes!
Hugs, coffee and cake first with Annie, Anita and Leon! A drive to lunch (pancakes - yummy) then a short drive to Arcen for a walk through the town centre and a drink overlooking the Maas river! From there to Wim and Anita’s home for more coffee and wait for Wim to come home! Then off to dinner. Pork belly and local beer topped off with a latte (I will be honest and say I can’t wait to get home for a good coffee 🥺)
And just like that the day is done and it’s time to say our goodbyes till next year!! Just the best day!Read more

Mit dem Nightjet nach Amsterdam

Mit Vorfreude 🤗 werden die Klappräder🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️ vollgepackt und um 20:19 geht's mit der Lilo 🚎 Richtung Hauptbahnhof....wie erwartet hat der Nighjet ca 30min Verspätung 😅 also blieb noch genügend Zeit die Räder transportfähig zu machen und etwas zum Trinken zu besorgen. Um 22:06 fährt der Zug 🚉40490 NJ beim Bahnsteig 5 ein Wagen 253 Sitzplätze 105 und 106 sind für uns reserviert .Wir teilen uns das Abteil mit 2 Jungen Mädels Beide mit Tramperrucksäcken unterwegs. Einer Niederländerin die nach Hause fährt und eine die durchs Land trampt......
Das verstauen der Fahrräder hat sich etwas schwieriger gestaltet 😅 aber nach mehreren Versuchen haben wir dann doch einen optimalen Platz im Abteil gefunden und mit Expander fixiert
Unsere 4 Taschen hatten zum Glück noch unter den Sitzen platz ansonst wäre es sehr eng geworden zum Schlafen ....
Die Sitze haben wir alle ausgezogen und somit war das ganze Abeil eine Liegefläche für uns 4 ...😴 haben gut mit einigen kleinen Unterbrechungen bis ca 8 Uhr geschlafen .....Amsterdam ereichen wir gegen 11Uhr 👍Read more
