Today we make the one hour and fifteen minute drive back to Lisbon. Drop the rental car at the airport and then head into the city to begin enjoying everything Lisbon has to offer! Pousada de Lisboa - Praça do Comércio, a place with a matchless historical personality and charm, from where the city expanded. After the 1755 earthquake, the Marquis of Pombal designed and rebuilt the entire square, including the building of the Pousada de Lisboa house of kings and a forum for the Ministry of Internal Administration.Read more

We walked another 15,000 + steps today along with a high speed train to Lisbon. Happy Earth Day! Dave and I were reflecting today on the many many years that we sang to hundreds of children during Earth Day in the month of April! Today was a rare day that we didn’t work on an earth day.

Traveler Yes. We get fruit for our day for our snack bag. We’ve been staying in both Porto and now Lisbon at an eco hotel that I found through my free points capitol one card and they give a sumptuous breakfast. More than anyone can eat at a meal

Getting to Know Lisbon

True to form, we spent the day wandering the streets of Lisbon. We tried to avoid the busy touristy areas as we love walking and exploring the narrow streets of the quiet neighborhoods. That being said, we did stumble upon a five-piece playing some great street music. We just had to dance!Read more

Traveler They haven’t asked, but if we hint at it they jump on it. With no exceptions they are anti-Trump. And mention that every American they’ve met traveling in Europe is anti-Trump. Most recognize the global impacts of what is happening in the US. Many say they feel sorry for us.

Day 19 Lisbon

Had a nice breakfast at the Hostel. Took my time and chatted with the friendly receptionist. She gave me a number of great suggestions with regards to what to check out and how to get around.

I decided to start with the Cathedral magnificent. There were many small chapels surrounding the main body of the church Stained glass was very different.

You were able to climb to a viewpoint at the back and that is where I could take a closeup of the Magnificent mandala stained glass.

I then continued walking ( up and Up) to see the Castille de Jorge. I had a delicious custard tart on the way....but there was a huge lineup and I decided not to wait to get in. Too many people.

I then walked up to the Circa de Jardin for a wonderful view of the city(my video)

After that I went down and down to the water and had my lunch there

I took the train to Belhem and captured the pics of the huge monument and Castille. They were sold out for the day at the Castille no worries I was fine with that.

I hopped back on the Metro to go home ( around 1700). I found a supermercado and picked up some salad, coke and chicken for supper Really great day!!!

Traveler It is so crowded!!! People everywhere. But yes, it is such a beautiful city and has a very active night life!!!! Quite a contrast from Santiago for sure😉

Traveler OMG! I have a very similar photo from Columbia with the colorful umbrellas across the street. I'll have to send it to in email. That spanish influence in the culture & architecture crosses the oceans for sure.

Day 18 On the move- Lisbon

Finally boarded the Flix Bus to Vigo. Very packed but managed to get a window seat. Beautiful clouds today. We also went over the bridge that looks like the Pattullo bridge. SUNSHINE🌞🥰 Finally!!!

Arrived just before 9 pm in Lisbon Rode the metro close to my hostel.
Walked 350 metres UP to them hostel. I am on the 4 th floor so 50 more stairs later I arrived in my room. Needless to say I went right to sleep💤💤💤

Note to self..... Train more on stairmaster before coming to Portugal!!! Everything is extreme up or down😉Read more

Odeceixe nach Lissabon

Nach 3,5 Std. Busfahrt mit Rede Espressos kamen wir in Lissabon an. Dann gings mit den Goiserern in die Metropole. Unser erstes Ziel war die Fahrt mit der historischen Tram 28 nach Montim Moniz - einfach nur spannend. Beeindruckt von dieser lebendigen, chaotischen Stadt ließen wir den Tag bei einem Absacker ausklingen - es soll uns nie schlechter gehen 🥰Read more

Power out Portugal-Spain

Today started off great. Dedicated to shopping and strolling until our food tour at 4:30. Well in the middle of day Portugal and Spain lost its power grid. As I write tonight it’s still all out. No power , airport is crazy and shut down In both countries. Trains are stoped in middle of route. Crazy but our hotel has power and internet, so for now are good. It’s been 8 hours. Oh. No food tour but got free gelato from shop before it melted away.Read more

Pena Palace

National Palace of Pena in Sintra was our day today. Are you ready ??? We started off by taken a 10 min walk to the train station. Bought a round trip ticket. Once arriving in Sintra we took a city bus ( round trip ticket ) up the mountain to the palace gate. We had skip the line tickets but for some reason they put us in a ticket line waited 15 minutes till they said no need just go up. So we wait another 15 minutes for the little bus to take us up, but after waiting they tell us we don’t have tickets. So we walk all the way up. Get in another line for 15 minutes then a guard says “ don’t you have skip the line “ we say yes so at the point we finally enter , bypassing maybe 10 people. Today we started off with a visit to St Jorge castle followed by Belém Tower. Parra’s dos Descobrimentos striking monument and the Jeronimos Monastery and church and finally the famous pastry factory.

Dieser Stadtteil mit dem weltberühmten Denkmal der portugiesischen Entdecker darf natürlich auf keiner Lissabon-Tour fehlen.
Das riesige Kloster Mosteiro dos Jerónimosund und der Torre Bélem sind Lissabons wichtigste Weltkulturerbe-Denkmäler. Finanziert werden konnte das gigantische Gotteshaus dank der im 16. JHD blühenden Wirtschaft und dem florierenden Handel mit Übersee. Vasco da Gama, der 1524 in Indien starb, fand hier im Kloster seine letzte Ruhestätte . Es war die Zeit der Entdeckungsfahrten von Vasco da Gama und seinen Seefahrerkollegen, denen hier, wo der Tejo nach einer langen Reise durch Spanien und Portugal ins Meer mündet, ein monumentales Denkmal gesetzt wurde.
Unbeschreibliche Touristenströme bevölkern heute mit uns den riesigen Platz zwischen dem historischen Kloster und dem Entdeckerdenkmal. Die in Portugal so beliebten Mosaike auf Straßen und Plätzen sind hier besonders schön. Die riesige Seerose ist ein ganz besonders Beispiel dafür, sie zeigt die Reisen der portugiesischen Seefahrer mit den Orten und den Jahreszahlen.Read more
