    Day 3–4

    Abla

    Etapp 3: Aboloduy till Abla, 28,2 km

    Det har verkligen varit en tuff inledning på den här vandringen. Gårdagens etapp med många höjdmeter kändes i benen när vi strax före 8 lämnade härbärget i Aboloduy. De första kilometerna var relativt lätta men sedan kom vi till en stigning på 300 höjdmeter som kändes mer som bergsbestigning än vandring. Väl uppe var det inte så många stigningar kvar men vi gick långa sträckor i en tom flodbädd med lös sand, grus och större stenar. Kändes bitvis som att gå med ryggsäck på en strand. Sista tre kilometerna var segt uppför på en större asfalterad väg. Mycket plågsamt. Men nu är vi i Abla och har checkat in på det trevliga härbärget.

    Här på härbärget är även sex andra pilgrimer, så totalt nio, vilket är ovanligt mycket enligt boendevärden. Det är ett franskt par vi bott med tidigare, en spanjor och ett spansk-mexikanskt par samt en person till jag inte träffat än. Trevlig med fler pilgrimer.

    Efter 15 kilometers vandring åt vi lunch på en liten restaurang. Vi trodde vi bara beställde mixsallad med kyckling men den charmerande servitrisen från Argentina måste har förvillat oss helt för in kom massor av mat (se foto). Det smakade utmärkt men det gjorde inte de kvarvarande 8 kilometerna lättare att vandra.

    Lite senare ikväll blir det gemensam middag här på boendet. Får se hur mycket jag orkar äta.

    Vädret är fantastiskt. Dryga 20 grader idag och sol. Nästan för varmt faktiskt. Men på kvällen blir det snabbt kyligare här ca 1200 meter över havet.

    Nu väntar lite kortare etapper några dagar och det ser vi fram emot. Men rejäla stigningar får vi fortsatt räkna med i denna bergiga del av Andalusien. Men vi är vid gott mod och har det trevligt tillsammans.

    Inatt kommer jag sova gott, det är jag helt säker på.

    Day 2–3

    Alboloduy

    Etapp 1: Almeria till Rioja, 15 km
    Etapp 2: Rioja till Alboloduy, 22,8 km

    Idag började vandringen på allvar! Vi gick 23 km i sol och drygt 20 grader med många långa uppförs- och nedförsbackar. Men ett helt fantastiskt landskap gjorde det mödan värt. Otroligt vacker del av Spanien det här. Det är svårt att beskriva hur det ser ut så tror bilderna förklarar bäst.

    Efter ca 15 km var vi rejält trötta och nådde ett litet samhälle där det äntligen fanns en öppen restaurang. Vi beställde in lite tapas, och öl så klart. En öl smakar aldrig bättre än efter en hård ansträngning.

    Efter drygt 7 timmar totalt var vi framme i Aboloduy där vi nu gjort oss hemmastadda på det trevliga härberget (albergue på spanska). Bäddarna ser sköna ut, vattnet i duschen var varmt , det finns tvättmaskin och en härlig terass. Vad mer kan en pilgrim behöva? Mat och öl så klart och det finns det också på nära håll.

    Gårdagens etapp var inte så kul. Jag startade sent och första 7-8 km gick efter en stor väg med mycket trafik. Jag spurtade på i högt tempo för ville slippa gå i mörker alltför länge. Men vid 7-tiden var det beckmörkt men med pannlampa gick det ändå rätt bra. Efter tre timmar var jag framme vid härbärget. Bara Juergen var vaken. Rob hade somnat, han var fortfarande jet-leggad efter sin långa resa från Louisiana, De hade lagat till lite spagetti och sparat till mig. Verkligen uppskattat.

    Nu sitter vi på en enkel bar och njuter en öl. Om en timme drygt öppnar restaurangen. Ska bli gott med mat och därefter sömn. Imorgon väntar ännu en dag med många höjdmeter att tackla.

    Sierra Nevada

    Wir haben den Euro Velo 8 gestern verlassen und fahren jetzt in die Sierra Nevada Richtung Grenada. Wir folgen jetzt keinem offiziellen Radweg mehr.
    Heute geht es durch Cowboy und Indianer Gebiet, wir denken hinter jedem Busch und Strauch kommen gleich eine Horte Cowboys geritten.
    930Hm und wir finden kein Platz zum Campen so haben wir spontan eine Pension gebucht. Hier treffen wir die ersten Pilger die Richtung Santiago de Compostela unterwegs sind.    Read more

    Day 7

    Alboloduy to Ocaña

    Gerard: This day was 800 meters up and down, with very narrow tracks at some parts. We were intimidated but everything worked out fine. During the night we already noticed that the wind was picking up. There was a storm coming in and when we were at the highest point the wind was fiercefull. When we joined the road we walked in the middle because we’re afraid we would be blown over the railing, really, even with our backpack on it felt like we were feathers to the wind. We pushed ourselves to get as early as possible to Nacimiento because we knew a post office was there to post our abundance stuff home. Only to find out the post office was closed. It is hard to understand the opening times for shops bars etc. We will have to pay for that rushing I am afraid as it was very close to too fast. The walk after the mountain was thru the river bed, which was, I am sorry to say, a bit boring. Grey stones, bushes on the side, hardly any view and we had to keep our focus to the floor as it was so variabel. In Donna Maria no places to eat. We scored a bag of chips, a bocadillo (belegd stokbrood) and a bottle of wine in a bar. Just to be safe. Then we rushed the last 2 km to Ocaña where the only bar would close at six, ofcourse to find out that the bar was closed when we arrived. On a Saturday night! We wonder how do the people earn their money? So the bocadillo wine and chips was going to be our dinner and breakfast. We slept like a rose....Read more

    Day 6

    Santa Fe to Alboloduy

    Debi: Today was a lot of climbing (3 peaks) with some steep downhills. Only about 15 km, but that took 5 hours, with breaks. It is a dry rugged landscape unlike anything I have seen. We also walked alongside many orange groves, and sampled a few. We were impressed by how well we are already adapting to the altitude and climbs. Another good day. Not sure why G chose to focus on food, other than we didn’t have much to eat today and arrived at our destination pretty hungry.🤤

    Gerard: Started with coffee and tostada. The bar owner asked me what I wanted. I am used in other parts of Spain to get toasted bread with cheese and marmalade on the side so that’s what I asked. Apparently it is common here to toast the piece of bread with the cheese in the oven. So I got this morning a piece of baguette with marmalade and melted cheese on top. It was delicious….. :-) Today was a shorter walk and at the end we had a late lunch in a cafe. Debi ordered a salad and i got meat and fried potatoes. When it was brought to our table debi eyeballed at my potatoes. The waitress saw that and she asked if debi wanted some too, which she did. Again delicious. Today’s walk was fine.    Read more

    Almeria to Santa Fe de Mondújar

    Gerard: First day of our walk. Originally we would walk to Rioja, but there the albergue was closed. we were advised to go to the next albergue in Santa Fe. It was only 24km.... It was hard on our feet as the first half was only tarmac. And our bodies were clearly not adjusted yet to carrying the backpacks. I was kaputt when we arrived. We were the only pilgrims in the albergue so plenty of hot water, It took 20 mins of hot showering to bring me back... Pff The sun felt hot today, only 21 degrees, clearly our winter bodies were not ready for this bombardement of sunray's. And to end this all, we also overdid preparing the trip. We expected cold weather , and had heavy warm clothes with us. We will send a few kg back home and do some shorter walking days. everything will be fine . Buen camino. GerardRead more

    Tabernas Desert - Route 66

    Zunächst noch ein kurzer Rückblick auf Texas Hollywood mit Fort Bravo und noch zwei Videos von der gestrigen Show. Dann ging es noch ein Stück weiter in die Tabernas Wüste, vorbei an einer weiteren Filmkulisse, der Western von Sergio Leone. Hier nur ein Foto aus der Ferne. Nach ein paar Kilometern haben wir dann gedreht und sind dann Richtung Murcia weiter gefahren. Auf dem Weg haben wir noch an einem Restaurant „Route 66“ einen Fotostop eingelegt. Hinter dem Restaurant gibt es auch einen Womo Stellplatz zum Übernachten. Anschließend sind wir dann weiter auf der N340 und A7 / AP7 bis nach Puerto Mazaron gefahren. Hier haben wir mal wieder eingekauft und einige Vorräte aufgefüllt.Read more

    Nacimiento to Abla

    An easier day today - no mountains , clouds, 2 places to stop and a coffee and tostada to start.
    The bar in Nacimiento was open early. I had a coffee and tostada. Typical of Spain, the man at the bar was having something stronger.
    The trail followed the river on a well formed track. A few little cars and vans went by, on their way to the farm plots along the river. Or hunting. Possibly rabbits (conejos) which is common on menus here.
    The first pueblo was Doña Maria. The guide book said there was no shop or bar in town. I was tempted to continue on the river bed, but glad I didn’t and followed the yellow arrows up into the town. There was a bar. Google, some friendly locals and “follow the noise” led me to the bar. Sure enough two men were shouting about football.
    Another cafe con leche then another good path to Ocaña. However, more friendly locals explained the bar is closed on Mondays.
    Onwards past an aqueduct not in the best repair, then on to Abla. A very nice town on the side of a hill. A bar with very good tapas and not much else open in the afternoon.    Read more

    Day 5

    Almeria to Rioja to Alboloduy

    Today got off to a good start, but didn’t finish up as planned.
    First day anxiety had me up early and walking at 7am. The way is very well signed with lots of yellow arrows to lead you out of Almeria. Past the football stadium, and into another suburb before the sunrise. Some river bed walking then through another small town. Then back to the river bed via some date palms.
    I knew when the Osbourne Bull came in site I was close to my albergue in Rioja. Osbourne Bulls were constructed along highways as advertising for a sherry company with an English name.
    I found the albergue but one problem - no water. Took a while to get the story, but a pipe had burst and nothing will be fixed until next week. Santa Fe de Monduhar has no room - there is a festival on this weekend.
    This being a great community camino, Mercedes picked me up in her car and drove me to Alboloduy. I will miss a stage but never mind. Lovely albergue here.    Read more

    Es gibt einen oberen Parklplatz und die Strasse weiter unten einen winzigen. Von da aus am besten mit wasserdichten Schuhen weiter, denn zum Teil läuft mab durch das Bachbett. Das Wasser ist eiskalt aber eine grossartige Erfrischung!Read more
