14. Etappe Chatillon-sur-Loire

Heute morgen beim Verlassen des Campingplatzes traf ich auf eine junge Französin, die war auch gerade am gehen. Kurz später schloss sie auf dem Radweg zu mir auf und wir sind dann gemeinsam bei leichtem Nieselregen daher gefahren. Sie wollte noch weitere 40 km fahren, ich nicht. Wir hatten uns zwar nicht soo viel zu sagen, aber war mal nett zu zweit.
Auf dem Campingplatz traf ich dann wieder auf Irene, mein 'koelsches Mädchen'😊. Auch hier bin ich also wieder in netter Gesellschaft.Read more

nach Chatillion-sur-Loire

In der Nacht hat es leicht geregnet und bis ich in Chatillion-sur-Loire angekommen bin, durchgehend. Aber es war eher ein leichter Sommerregen. Die Erde ist immer noch trocken und die Temperaturen haben auch nicht abgekühlt. Bei meiner Ankunft auf dem Campingplatz kam die Sonne wieder raus und alles ist wieder trocken. Mein Zelt und Rad stehen jetzt unter einem großen Festzelt, denn am Abend soll es Gewittern und auch die nächsten Tage ist Regen oder Gewitter angesagt. So habe ich das Regenzeug nicht umsonst mitgenommen.
Der Radweg führte heute, ganz idyllisch, an einem Atommeiler vorbei. Der Campingplatz ist dafür sehr schön direkt an der Loire gelegen und super billig, die Nacht für 6,20 €, mit allem drum und dran. Im Schnitt habe ich hier 10 € bezahlt und manchmal war die Qualität eher unterirdisch.
Auf dem Campingplatz habe ich auch Rudi wiedergetroffen, der kürzere Etappen fährt. Ich bin heute auch nicht soviel gefahren. Ich glaube, die kürzeste Etappe bisher. Erstens wegen des Regens und ich wollte die Strecke bis Orléans in zwei Teile splitten.
ERGÄNZUNG: Es hat hier noch einen ganz heftigen Sturm, eine kleine Windhose, gegeben, gut das wir das Zelt hatten. Trotzdem mussten wir unsere Zelte und Sachen in Sicherheit bringen. Mittlerweile sind wir zu viert, eine Frau aus Dresden, ein Strassburger, Rudi (gebürtig aus Euskirchen, jetzt in Freiburg lebend) und ich.Read more

Ein Abend in Chatillon-sur-Loire

Ich war kaum angekommen, lief auch schon Irene ein. Später dann noch ein Elsässer, der mit seinem Liegerad schon 3.000 km durch Frankreich unterwegs war, jetzt auf dem Heimweg. Kurz nach dem schlimmsten Gewitter kam dann noch eine Dresdnerin, Ute, die von Windhosen berichtete. Ein freundlicher Anwohner hatte sie während des Gewitters in seiner Garage unterstehen lassen.

Day 6: 28 km

Worst day ever, no wait that was still day 1, second worst day. I got up to go to the toilet last night, slightly bumped the pole and SNAP! It broke in half, it's only 1 year old and a pretty good one! Luckily it had a repair metal tube so I had it fixed in 10 min, but I still need to look into insurance.

We set off from Gien, lovely city, lovely ride along the river. We saw a canal bridge over la Loire which was also engineered by Eiffel. It was bizarre but awesome. After that we continued along a canal, Michelle was a bit ahead of me when I heard something in my back wheel. I breaked but still got thrown forward into my lady bits! After a few minutes of swearing, I checked the bike, a spoke had snapped. Two nice French guys stopped, talked to me and removed the spoke. They said it does not really matter i can ride it.

I tried to continue but something else was wrong. My gear got stuck in the spokes, that's when I realised the whole wheel had warped. I fiddled to try and fix it, Michelle eventually came back and another two French guys stopped to help. We had the bike upside down, it was rubbing on the side of the frame and the brakes. The guys tried to make it ridable for me and gave some advice. I rode it slowly for about 1 km then the gear got caught again so we pushed it 6 km to a campsite, had lunch, no one was there so we continued to the town, tourist info was closed but it had a sign for bike repair so we walked there. Up hill. It's so hot today, which is lovely but a bit much.

Now we are waiting for the verdict. This bike repair shop is actually a mechanic. Apparently my bike has a special wheel or maybe he just does not have any here, his French is a bit tricky to understand. Hopefully he can find one, after the first 30min of waiting with no success he is trying again. If he can't find one I don't know what to do. I can't push the bike everywhere. No one knows where a bike repair shop is, anywhere. And neither does Google.

Vendredi, 6 août 2021
Après un séjour urbain, au bord du Loir, nous voici aujourd'hui stationnés au bord de la Loire, ou plus exactement au Canal Latéral. Châtillon-sur-Loire nous accueille sur leur aire-cc au port. L’endroit est superbe et les places très spacieuses. Nous pouvons dîner dehors; la seule agitation est le passage de deux péniches. Une promenade vers les deux bras de la Loire nous fait passer par ce joli pont fleuri.
