  • Dinner at la Posada de LaBruja

    January 7, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Our first recommended Restaurant was La Posada de Labruja which was not far away from our hotel. Eating and drinking outside and inside was possible. Simple, easy and very good food. We can recommend now also and think about to visit them tomorrow again. PS: The last picture was not on the menue 😊 we found him sitting next to our car when we went home.Read more

  • National Park Braulio Carillo

    January 8, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Toda we made a short hike in the National Park Braulio Carillo which is about 40 Minutes from San Jose. It is reachable by a Main road from West to East Side and we learn we have to drive it tomorrow again when we will go to our next destination on the Caribbean Coast. The hike is a 1.6 km within a Rainforest. A lot of Flora we did not seen before and the humidity went very high. Unfortunately no animals in this area but anyway it was a great experience.Read more

  • Arrived in Puerto Vjejo de Talamanca

    January 9, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we went up to our next destination at the carribran site of Costa Rica. It was a 4 hour drive through the National Park we visited yesterday and a lot of bananas. The last hour was a drive along the beaches which are wild and beautiful. We just arrived at our house which is absolutely amazing. You can open all Doors so that you can live nearly outside. It has an direct access to the sea. We just saw it shortly and will report once explored. We are that happy to have this house for 2 weeks now....Read more

  • Spending Time in Puerto Vjejo

    January 10, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ 🌧 25 °C

The last two days we spend our time at our house and all along the beach. One of our highlight was that we found a sloth bear in our Garden. Something we never saw before. Also a frog sleeping in a color of green we never expected. The beach is rough and wild but you can see a lot of sea animals.Read more

  • Visited BriBri Waterfalls

    January 13, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Yesterday the sun rises again after a full day of rain. So we decided to take a Hike. I found already at home the BRIBRI Waterfalls. So we went there. It is a 20 Minutes Drive from Puerto Vjejo and once arrived there is just nothing. But there was a guy sitting on a tree and he offered us to park next to his house and guided us. We knew already that this is his business but since no tourists are here at the moment we decided to support him. It was a 20 minutes walk trough rivers and beautiful landscapes. To be honest we would not found the final a way without the guide so we were lucky having him. On the way down you need to be able to climb a bit but once arrived we were just speak less. You are able to swim and dive and I trusted the guide also when he said go and take a shower. I took one and I think the picture is showing everything. What a brutal power of Nature in you Neck....

  • Carribean Beach Time and National Parks

    January 17, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

After our Arrival in Puerto Viejo we spended a lot of our time in our beautiful House Casa Blanca. It has huge, beautiful grounds and there is always something new to discover in the garden. To be honest we found more animals here in our garden then in the National parks. I reported already from the Sloth bear hanging there. Next to him we had monkeys playing in the trees , hummingbirds flying around the amazing flowers and every night a loud frog concert starts which is a perfect match to the sound of the sea which we can hear from our terrace. There is a house keeper who takes  care about all and he is doing a perfect job. We talk a lot to each other and it works even he does not speek english and our spanish is still in it infancy. To the house belongs also a dog named "SAM" which is guarding the complete area - Such a dear, trusting dog and everyone who knows me knows that I am normally afraid of dogs. Our Son and Sam gets best friends and we had a lot of Fun together.
We took the house also as a basis to visit the Nationalparks in this area. They are all reachable by a 20 minutes Drive from Puerto Viejo. We started with Cahuita which is in the North. Cahuita offers both hikes and time by the sea, which is a great interaction for us and the beaches in Cahuita are also "real" caribean as in Puerto Viejo the Beaches are rough and natural. Both types has it advantages and anyway the Water temperature is 28 degrees, so that swimming is possible the whole day. I started normally the day with watching the sunrise and takeing a bath directly after the sun went up.
Another Nationalpark is Manzanillo which is in the South and directly at the Boarder to Panama. We also took a Hike but i think the most valueable Places are deep in the Rainforrest. We tried to get there but we ended up in a dead end. In the end it was not our favourite Nationalpark.

Next to Nationalparks we spended a lot of time at the beaches arround our House. Punta Cocles is just a 5 Minutes walk from the House and also Punta Negro can be reached by a walk but we decided to find the end which is reachable by car also. Building sand castles and bodyboarding on the waves were our main occupations. Never did this since years and forgot about how many fun this can be.
A highlight are also the saltwater Pools for which we have a direct access from the House. Many things to explore between the tides and everyday our place to be before Sun goes down. We are still here until end of the Week and enjoy every breath!

  • Most exhausting Hike ever done -KELKOLDI

    January 19, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We got a tip from a local, that there is somewhere a super high waterfall in KEKOLDI INDIGENA RESERVA . So we decided to drive there. Once arrive, there was nothing and we took the only  road up to the hill. About 5 km more on a real dirty, steep road we wanted to giv up but out of nowhere we found a house and a family was sitting outside. The only word we know fro our project in spanish was "CATARATA" which is the spanish word for waterfall. After a conversation with all arms and legs the owner showed us, that he will putting his shoes on. Once he came back he weared robber boots and had a big machete in his hand and he started to walk. We followed him without knowing where and how long to go.

What followed was the most exhausting hike we have ever done. It was trough the rainforrest mostly with loose Ground with a lot ups and downs. We even do not know but in the end it must hav been about  11-13 km. Since it was still not possible to talk via language we found a way to communicate by hands, sounds and gestures which was needed to get safe to our destination. We had to climb down the hill until we finally reached the highest Waterfall we saw so far. Not a beauty to swim but even more natural Power as the last Waterfall.
I swam as near as possible and it was nearly like to sit in mid of a storm. It is loud, cold and windy but im very happy that i have done it.

After 5 hours we were back at the car. We were very proud of our son who walked the complete way on his own. He slept 2 mins aftersitting in the car. We had to take a nap when we arrive back at our house. One day later and we can still feel every bone :-)

  • NATIONAL PARK CAHUITA

    January 22, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Today we visited Nationalpark Cahuita. We visited it before but the first time we took the main Entrance. This time we tried a second more hidden entry most tourists do not know. The entry is called Puerto Vargas Station. The hike starts on a never ending bridge trough the Rainforest. Unfortunately the same as before. We hear a lot of animals like birds and monkeys but we do not see them. On the main entry a guide said to us-no guide - no animals. I answered : We will see. I will never ever tell him that he was right. Anyway it was a beautiful hike trough the Rainforest and at the end of the bridge we learned it was 2,5 km until you arrive the beach. Again a very natural and gruff beach with a lot of fallen trees and palms. We hikes until the end Point Puerto Vargas which is on the top and what we found there was a real, very white sand Caribbean Beach. No waves, no 28 degrees water temperature. Absolutely just a perfect place to stay. What you have to know is that the park is closing on 4pm but since you need time latest at 2 pm ranger go trough and prompt you to go. In the end it was a 10 km hike but really worth it.Read more

  • Arrived in El Castilo

    January 24, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Arrived after a long drive in Castillo. It was a 6 hour hard drive since more then 100 km in a row are construction area. So we arrived late and it was already dark. But this morning blew us completely away. For sure we knew that we have a beautiful view but to see it in real was mind blowing. Mornings like this... ❤️❤️❤️Read more

  • Ziplining in EL Castillo

    January 25, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

The first two days we had a beautiful view to the Vulcano Arenal. On the 3rd day we went up for a hike in Arenal Observatory. It started already in the morning to get cloudy - anyway we hiked about 11 km at the foot of the Volcano without seeing him. So it was a nice walk, but a bit dissapointing because it was promised to see the Lava Flow. After 3 Hours we were back on the car and decided to go home. On the way back there was a sign of Skyadventures. Spontaneous we turned left and drove to the entry. On the parking area: 3 other cars. We saw a chance in it since the hike was not completely fulfilling. Alexa asked if there is still a run and the employee said promt: Yes in 10 minutes. You have to know that we had this topic before with Ari and he told us in Germany that he will not do it. But on the parking area he was the one who said. Come on, let's do it (Without knowing what it really means :-))
So we bought Tickets. We were belted and went up on the Hill with an open Gondola. We learned that it will not be One Zipline rather then 7 from the Hill over the Valley and back. Ari saw the first Big Line(750 meter and 220 meter depth) and he understood his decision. Fortunately the really first one was a training line, since you have to break by your own ( i didn´t knew either) And the first he did even alone by himself. The next one was the big one. We decided together with the guides that it is better when somebody will drive with him. So he must be always the last one since there are 2 Guides - One in the front who drives to the other site and one always the last. So we drove before Ari and had to wait until he is comming with the last guide. We wondered really about his reaction but he cam down with a smile. We were bursting with pride. • Short Stop in Potrero

    January 30, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

After some heavy rainy and cold Days up on the Hill in the middle of the Rainforest we are glad to be back on the ocean. The temperature difference is mor than 14 degrees. We have booked a hotel (the only one on the complete route) to do a stopover. There are a lot of Iguanas all over the area. They are really big and when you take a look behind you and seeing him as your follower it is a bit scary but after 3 days it is getting normal 😊Read more

  • Samara Beach

    February 2, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Spende some time in Sámara Beach. A small town with a special energy. People live here in a synergy and all join the beautiful sunsets on the beach together. We had a beautiful small house direct on the beach which allowed us to watch sunrise and sunset everyday. Also we found our absolutely favorite Restaurant Gusto Beach. We went there Everyday since food and drinks were just amazing.
Really enjoyed this little paradise. Today we are driving to Santa Teresa more in the south.

  • Turtle Release at Calamocha

    February 6, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

After 3 days in Potrero und 4 days in Sámara we went our way Down do Calamocha near Santa Teresa. I did not follow the recommendation of Google maps and decided to went all along the coast which ended in a 90 km dirty road with 3 rivers which we had to cross with our car. So even the drive was an experience. Once arrived we felt like home in Calamocha were we booked a jungle lodge and we getted surprised directly since Veronique the owner came and asked if we want to come with her releasing baby turtles at the beach. For sure we said yes and it was absolutely an amazing experience. Our son was responsible for 6 baby turtles to put them out of the Box and help them all the way to the sea. Wow!

The next Morning at 5am we had a concert of very Lod monkeys which are sitting directly in front of our lodge. Sounds we have never heard before and in the beginning we even thought it is a much bigger animal until we saw them. We love to stay here for one week. Tomorrow we rented Atv's. Pretty sure it will be the next Freylight.😊

  • ATV Ride to Monzezuma/Cabuya

    February 9, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Since we had to learn that the Area of Santa Teresa does not have much asphalt roads we decided to rent Atv's to do a day trip to the other side to Montezuma. The roads are really really hard, dusty, dirty and a lot of bumps which are deep and especially in night time dangerous. We rented the Atv's in Santa Teresa Town and we were that surprised that even the town doesn't have asphalt roads. Santa Teresa is the dirtiest, and most sandy town we have ever saw. You have sand dust just everywhere. To be honest we thought it is a millionaires town since we heard a lot of Vips have houses there like Tom Brady, and Di Caprio and Madonna. But what we found shocked us. It is very very busy, 100 of surfboards on Atv's, cars or motor cycles. A Crazy surfing, young lifestyle town.

After we get our Atv's we had to start directly into the busy roads and we were lucky when we reached the town boarder. All the way to Montezuma was also dusty roads and our eyes were stressed because of a lot of sand in it. But once arrived in Montezuma we drove all the way long on the coast and found many many beaches and did a lot of beautiful stops. There was one island before cabuya which is used as the local cementary. This was a pretty cool thought that you know you will end on an island like this. Back to Santa Teresa we took the so called Monkey Trail. We didn't saw monkeys but it was a beautiful road with small river crossings.

Next to all for sure we were proud again of our son since he asked if he can drive by his own. We let him drive in a quite area and we're surprised how well he did it. We are sure this is because he had a lot of training on the lawn mower tractor with his grandfather😉

    February 14, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

The Chilanga Lodge was originally planned as the last stop before flying from San Jose since it is only one Hour away. But since we extended Costa Rica ist was now a short Stop. It is again up on the Hills and has a beautiful view to Mango fields and Palms. We did a short Hike though the Mango fields down to River "Jesus Maria" in which you can swim. In the end we spended the whole afternoon there since the river had the perfect temperature and was the perfect playground for all of us building new smaller rivers with stones☺️Read more

  • Playa Bejuco

    February 16, 2021 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

From San Juan de Dias we drove down the pacific coast to Playa Bejuco near Quepos. Form there we visited Nationalpark Manuel Antonio which was really not our favorite since it ist completely touristic. Until we were on the entry 20 guides and Souvenirs seller we bothering us.
The beaches are looking good but we were done with the Park before we were in. A much better Lternative was the Rainmaker Park in which we were alone again. A beautiful Hike with hanging bridges and 3 Waterfalls and since it was a really hot day we used them all. But most amazing werd the sundowner at Playa Bejuco. The mirroring on the beach was just mind blowing and take a walk there is highly recommended.

  • Tulum, trying to find Happy Places...

    February 25, 2021 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

After one night in Cancun we drove to Tulum. Not really a scenic drive since it is 2 hours highway with no view. Once arrived  in Tulum we were a bit shocked when we tried to find a beach to see the sunset. We were not able to see the beach since on the main beach one big Beach Resort or Beach club next to each other reserved every centimeter of the beach. For sure you can go into a beach club and have to pay to see the beach... After 7 weeks of Costa Rica where we had the beaches nearly for us alone a bit scary. In between we talked to locals and did some research and we know now the places to go so we are happy again.
Our best Trip so far was the adventure to the City COBA. It is a one hour Drive from Tulum and you can visit an old Maya city there. Real fun was to explore the Maya Buildings by Rental Bikes - Old Bikes but Bikes :-D

Our most favourites are the Cenotes. Yucatan has about 7000 of it and you can find these Water holes with crystal clear blue Water as open lakes or as Caves. Again the most famous are may busy (we even didn´t tried) but you can find a lot of them without tourists. We decide on the numbers of cars at their parking areas.

We are in Tulum until Saturday until we drive to the North of Yucatan. What we are really looking for is to see Mexico. Until now we do not feel like we have seen Mexico yet...

  • Found some happy Places in Tulum

    March 4, 2021 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We found our happy places in Tulum. Next to a beach area which was not that croudy the most beautiful places are the Cenotes and when you go early you have them alone. The most beautiful was the grand cenote. You have to be there before 9 am since the tourists are comming around 11am.
When you swim through the cave you have bat's in the air and turtles swimming next to you. Again we are proud that our son also jumped with me from an almost 3 Meter Plattform into Cenote Corazon.
These places made Tulum great for us but we are happy to drive today to the North and explore Mexiko a bit within the drive
