  • Southernmost pier

    9 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

The most southern point in the US is actually about a quarter mile West of here on the (inaccessible) Naval Air Station. But it was fun to go as far as we could. Good thing the weather is actually warm here, or we'd have ditch the trailer and hop a boat to Cuba which is about 90 miles further south.Leer más

  • Everglades Ahinga Trail

    12 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

We zipped into the Everglades to walk the Anhinga Trail. As we drove into the park, we passed several school busses on their way out. I was quietly relieved, believing that the school children had left and the trail would be ours. We were a little concerned when we parked and heard lots and lots of children. But I think that they were waiting for a school bus to come pick them up.

The trail was a nice boardwalk. The best part was the grassy area with 8 alligators, all napping. Both of us thought it looked a lot like an elephant graveyard where they go to die. The alligators looked like they had crawled up out of the water with their last breaths, and they would never move again.

  • Tigertail beach

    14 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

Out of the way beach, they said. One of the best beaches to look for shells, they said. Oh SURE! No shells, but high rises in abundance. The ride back over the bridge was nice, though.

  • Cape you know what

    17 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We finally got a move on and headed northwards, the reason being we had made an appointment with the real estate guy at the Ponte Verde community to get some more information. We took the long way up, though, and were thrilled to see Cape Canaveral in the distance.Leer más

  • Manatees!

    18 de enero de 2017, North Atlantic Ocean ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Our one and only attempt to see Manatees last spring resulted in disappointment, to say the least. One, we arrived starving, and two, the manatees that had been billed as "in the wild" were really TAME manatees. Even though they were not in cages, you had to wait for them to feed them at 1:00 and that seemed like a zoo to us.

We saw on the map the teensy words "manatee viewing deck" on the A1A just north of Cape Canaveral so we headed out. Though there was no cool underwater viewing room, we were absolutely thrilled to see manatees looking entirely natural. We felt well rewarded.

  • A1A to St Augustine

    17 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Well dagnabbit, we were just a bit tired by the time we headed north from Manatee Central and did not take photos as we should have of all the beautiful beaches, mossy trees and gorgeous coastal homes. But before hanging it up, I did get a couple of shots of dramatic horizons with incoming clouds. Living all those years in the PNW, I kind of forgot that clouds are a gorgeous and ever-changing phenomenon in much of the world. We're thankful to be reminded.Leer más

  • Relaxing

    18 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

We are both POOPED after our afternoon looking at Ponte Vedra Del Webb. Trying to relax and postpone thinking til tomorrow. Gorgeous sunset and warm breezes are helping.

  • Our abode to be

    20 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

We have signed the papers and July 1 we will move into our freshly built home in the Del Webb Ponte Vedra community in Nocatee Florida. We have not stopped thinking about the community since we visited it in December. It has so much we are interested in: warm weather somewhat modified by its proximity to the coast, a community with activities we are interested in as a way to make friends, proximity to good healthcare and to cities with great amenities, airport, etc. We are only 5 minutes to the shopping in the community, and 15 minutes to the nearest Fresh Market.

This particular community has a couple of bonuses, a big one being that it is part of a larger planned community that is all ages with activities and facilities of its own so we can easily interact and make friends with people younger than ourselves and rub elbows with kids if we want. It has a 7 mile bike and walking path that takes you directly to the ocean beach. The community is surrounded by permanent greenbelt areas that will never be developed. Though houses are very close together, our own house and immediate neighborhood backs up to one of those green areas. Gordon had thought he would not be able to have a garden outside of pots, but that was not correct so he is feeling cheerful about that. Though right now he is focussing on the many many pots of citrus and gardenias he can get going right away.

We scoot in and out of the jitters having made such a rash decision, though really we have been looking around for a while. But I am reassured by my lovely mom who showed up to sit on my shoulder and encourage me. She made many such rash decisions and never looked back ... and was blessed by each one.

Oh ... and we will have a guest room. AND we are only 2 hours from Disneyworld for those of you who care. And who wouldn't?

We're hanging around waiting for our appointment tomorrow with the design maven at Ponte Vedra. A quick trip to the beach was just the ticket. Note bare feet. Storm coming in, but it was still 80 degrees.Leer más

  • Weather coming

    22 de enero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

OK what's the deal with us and weather?! Not 20 minutes ago we were sitting outside enjoying a cool drink, sorting through options for tile, carpet, paint, etc. on our iPads. Then a nice gentleman saunters over from a neighboring RV and asks us if we've heard about the TORNADO WARNING?

What? Why, NO, we HADN'T heard! So now we are glued to the weather channel watching the weather come in. Winds are only predicted up to 57 mph gusts so if we don't get hit directly by a tornado we know we're good ... after all we survived 60 mph in Dodge City. This is our story and we will be sticking to it until proven otherwise.

  • After a wonderful rest, back on the road

Sorry for the lack of posts, but we have been relaxing. My kidney is fine, which is the reason we returned to Atlanta. But the Towles took such good care of us we found it difficult to leave. But this morning we are off to Pensicola.Leer más

  • National Naval Aviation Museum

    1 de febrero de 2017, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

Gordon and I enjoyed this wonderful museum quite a bit, and dad would have approved heartily as entrance was FREE. We were sad to have missed the Blue Angels twice-weekly practice as they are out of town for January and February, But there was a tremendous amount to see and Gordon was in Hardware Heaven. I am imagining that the 2nd photo shows what dad's working conditions on the planes were as a navigator in WWII. We also enjoyed being around the sailors, young and old, who were all around in both official and unofficial capacities. It was a very positive place, showing a proud tradition and honoring those who have served.Leer más
