Telavi und die Weinebene von Kachetien

    July 17, 2019 in Georgia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Read more

Estate of Alexander Chacharvadse, a Georgian Prince of the late 18th century. Also a wine making operation. First is the house. Then one of the original walls of the inside of the house, the summer gallery, the old church (now a ruin), the labyrinth and a look at the grounds.Read more

    April 30, 2018 in Georgia

When we finally get to Tsinandali it's already past 5pm. We have planned a visit of an elegant villa surrounded by an immense park, but the next guide-tour won't start until 6pm. That means we have plenty of time to have a walk in the green (or do some wine tasting) before we actually start the tour of the villa. When it gets a bit too chilly outside, I try to kill some time by having an overpriced latte macchiato in the cafeteria of the villa. This turns out to be a good opportunity to get to know one of my travel mates: Tina, a senior German woman from the Allgäu who lived many years in Tokyo and seems to know a lot about New Zealand.
The actual visit of the villa (that apparently belonged to a famous Georgian nobleman) is honestly quite boring, but at least it only lasts for 20 minutes. We then proceed back to the bus, where we found one of our travel companions snoring on a seat: it looks like he got so drunk during the wine tasting that he didn't even wake up when we arrived in Tsinandali.

Thanks to the evening light we can now clearly see a stunning 5.000-meter mountain peak not far away from us. On the way back to Tbilisi we also drive through the mountains and enjoy amazing views of the sunset on the Caucasus. The road is as spectacular as hilly and full turns, so that it takes us ages to get back to Tbilisi and we reach the hotel at 9pm: too late to do some more sightseeing, but not to take some more pictures from the rooftop of the building!
This is our last night in the capital: tomorrow we will head West towards Kutaisi!
