    30. heinäkuuta 2021, Ruotsi ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

we managed to move further north 😊 only 100 km to go until norway. fortunately the wind 🌬️ is calming down and the sun 🌞 comes out. if i'm lucky will be able to jump into the baltic sea soon 🌊🏊. also the houses 🏡 start to change, more and more of these nice little red wooden houses which i love ❤️ so much. also driving the second day starts to annoy me a little bit. buuuuuut don't worry i'm happy on the road... 🤪Lue lisää

finally we arrived in norway with best weather. but you can't imagine how long the queue at the border is... and you not only had to register online upfront but they also do a test at entry. let's hope we're not false positive...Lue lisää

what a day... finally i jumped into this lake 🌊 and took a wonderful swim 🏊 during sunset 🌅 and i definitely deserved it! a dream...
aaaaaand... complaining is not my way and i really appreciate that everyone not fully vaccinated must be tested at the norwegian border. but if we had been a normal car and not a truck, it would have taken not just 2 but 6 (!) hours at the border. although we had previously given all the data online, all the data was entered twice (!) by hand. not only that, we were also processed serially. really guys? you are not serious...
so there are quite some things which could be improved - easily.
but we are here now, finally, swimming in this lake during sunset, enjoying a delicious dinner 🍽️ afterwards ❤️. i am so grateful.

it's a bit cloudy today but that's no big deal since we're anyway going into the mountains now and mountains ⛰️ with clouds ☁️ are a beautiful thing - don't you think so?

  • Heddal Stave Church, Norway

    31. heinäkuuta 2021, Norja ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

this church is a triple stave church and is norway's largest stave church. it was constructed at the beginning of the 13th century. after the reformation, the church was in a very poor condition, and a restoration took place during 1849–1851. however, because the restorers lacked the necessary knowledge and skills, yet another restoration was necessary in the 1950s.
there is a legend telling about the erection of the church and how it was built in three days - compare that to the cologne cathedral, which took 632 years until it was finished - yeah well i know it is larger BUT it does not have an angry bird (or better insane duck - really check out the pics!).
hmmm ok, maybe i should better skip churches and go hiking, maybe i'm not serious enough for churches...

today we stay on the campside 🏕️ - wonderfully located in the mountains ⛰️ with its own little lake to swimm 🏊. so if you ever stay around the corner i definitely can recommend this campside : small, cozy, small lake, calm and uncomplicated,
and since it's saturday we plan to barbecue 🔥 some salmon 🐟. i though about playing around with the drone today but i think i will save the batterie for the next days - we plan to cross hardangervidda.

today we hiked 13km on the hardangervidda. that does not sound long but 400 height meter, a terrain not that easy und corona unfittness will definitely lead to some sore muscles tomorrow... i did not take my blue bag, for those of you who remember... there is one picture where you might find katja & frank...Lue lisää

  • Låtefossen, Norway

    2. elokuuta 2021, Norja ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

låtefossen is a waterfall located in ullensvang. the 165-metre tall waterfall is unique and thus it is a well-known tourist attraction in the area. it is special in that it consists of two separate streams flowing down from the lake lotevatnet, and as they fall, they join together in the middle of the waterfall, just before going road, making for a spectacular (and wet) view as one drives over the old, stone, six-arched bridge.Lue lisää

  • Buarbreen Glacier, Norway

    2. elokuuta 2021, Norja ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

buarbreen is a glacier in ullensvang. it is an offshoot of the large folgefonna glacier. the small glacial arm reaches down into the buerdalen valley, just 6 kilometres southwest of the town of odda. the glacier is split into two parts, one on either side of a small mountain peak. both sides drain into the jordalselvi river which flows out through the valley into the lake sandvinvatnet. some years ago, when i visited buarbreen with my son you where able to walk right to the glacier, it took about 2 hours. this time the last bridge was closed. i had the strong feeling that they want to sell their glacier tours because if you book a tour, passing this bridge is not a problem...Lue lisää

  • Tyssedal Power Station, Norway

    2. elokuuta 2021, Norja ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

the most amazing thing there was not the station in the first place although it is really nice... we parked the truck and a fishermen 🐟 came over and asked if we are interested in some fish. "sure" we said and he took us to his fisher shed. in there he gave us a big bag of fresh fish as a gift... what a friendly gesture! i ❤️ norwegians!
but now some information about the station... this is a hydroelectric power station and museum located in tyssedal. the station is an architectural highlight and was designed by architect thorvald astrup. it started production in 1906 and operated at a combined installed capacity of 100 MW from 1918, with an average annual production of 700 GWh. the plant was protected by the norwegian directorate for cultural heritage in 2000. they have a small cafe with chairs outside (wonderful view) and offer only coffe. but if you are lucky they also prepare some waffles for you. it just felt like family 😍❤️.

  • Vøringsfossen, Norway

    3. elokuuta 2021, Norja ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

do you know tolkiens book lord of the rings? there is this one passage where frodo, poisoned by a deadly wound, lured the ringwraiths into the river bruinen. gandalf, who had arrived in rivendell, caused the waters to rise and take the form of rushing horses. this flood killed the steeds of the ringwraiths.
today i found this flood with horses, so i assume this must be bruinen! obviously it is called vøringfossen nowadays.
vøringsfossen has a total drop of 182 metres and a major drop of 163 metres. it is perhaps the most famous in the country and a major attractionon the way down from hardangervidda to hardangerfjord.
