Lightning Ridge

We are now at the northern end of New South Wales in Lightning Ridge. It is the opal capital of the world, but to be honest there is not much to do in this little town beside visiting some very old "houses", mines, car wrecks and souvenir shops. The highlight of the town for us was our night visit in the bore baths. Enjoying the hot water with a lot of stars above our heads. All in all a good stopover after being on the road the last three days!

Angekommen in Lightning Ridge am nördlichen Ende von New South Wales! Der Ort gilt als die Opal Hauptstadt der Welt und so kann man sich hier auch die ein oder andere Mine ansehen. An sich ist es aber kein schöner Ort, die meisten "Häuser" sind Bruchbuden aus Wellblech und ansonsten gibt es wohl mehr Autowracks als noch fahrende Autos in der Stadt. Lediglich die heißen Quellen sind ein kleines Highlight. Vollkommen gratis und rund um die Uhr geöffnet haben wir hier das heiße Wasser unter einem nahezu perfekten Sternenhimmel genießen können.Read more
